Gear The Source by Extract Craft - a closed loop system for alcohol extractions

lol yea ok

hopefully some other Source owners comment about this pooling under the globe issue I (and you too) have experienced to varying degrees
Timmy,
I'm having trouble figuring out your point here. I notice these are your first ever comments and participation. You started by saying it is boiling all over no matter what liquid volume and its unavoidable. Then you are using outdated temps at sea level I assume you are getting off other people's old posts. Then you propose you are using an implausible solution of balancing a pyrex dish on top of the cup, which will not work under any circumstance. Then you settle on trying to make a natural by-product of evaporation and condensation into an issue when it is simply a trace amount. None of this makes sense. I have to assume you are someone that got warned here for bad behavior previously and are back with a different identity or some other agenda. Either way, what you have been saying is not credible and I will not be responding to your nonsense any longer.

I have one of these and I have confirmed, after using the source to reduce a darker colored green solution (typically I am working with a very light amber color), that the liquid that pools underneath the globe while it runs is not the result of ethanol condensation, like I had assumed, but spillage from the cup while it boils :o

I have found that no matter how little solution is in the cup some will inevitably boil out of the cup and wind up under the globe

sigh

I haven't had that problem, probably no more than a bit of ethanol underneath. It saw it at a rolling boil but it wasn't enough to boil over even if it were near the top.

Same here, it's really only a bit. But when I ran a dark solution it was clear that the liquid, that bit, is solution not condensate as it was green.

Before this I ran light amber and I thought that bit was condensate as it appeared clear

This other guy is blowing my statements way out of proportion

In the future please report any suspicious posts and let the staff deal with it instead of calling a member out publicly.

Thank you. ;)

So I have read threw this thread and I am wondering if the source is the way to go or if something else might be better. I was concidering the green oil machine but now wonder if this would be better.

My main goal is to be able to reuse the everclear

In summary I start with trim and end of with Cannacaps (I am aiming for 100mg caps)

Here are my steps in case that is helpful
1. Soak trim in everclear (30 days)
2. Strain everclear
2. boil off everclear in crock pot (3 days)
3. Mix result from #3 with coconut oil

Thanks in advance for your input

Hi,

Tough question, but for your single application I might lean toward the GOM for volume and your method does not require a whole lot of attention. The main thing you are going to give up with the GOM that works great with the source is the ability to keep the temperature during extraction quite low and thus keeping the terps quite strong (a point that is somewhat mitigated if decarbing). The other strong plus for the Source is the ability to use it for a number of different things and be able to see inside to monitor the process and stop it at your exact desired consistency. So, my humble opinion would be for the single use you described above the GOM may be the better option, for more latitude in versatility in crafting the Source is a good option.

So I got to like page 4, but if anyone could let me know how strong of a vacuum this thing is actually pulling that would be awesome! Thank you FC

It looks like I might not be able to get the green oil machine can someone suggest an alternative given the above information please.

Tank you!

Hi, I'm not understanding why you can't get the GOM because of the linked comment? I thought for your focus the GOM would be useful, but did something change?

IchiBanCrafter,
I put water on the crock pot and then put a glass jar with the alcohol in the water.
Let me clarify. I put water on the crock pot and then put a glass jar with the alcohol in the water.
Ok, I haven't seen this one before. May I ask 1) what the average temp is during the crock pot phase? 2) do you use decarbed herb to start with? 3) what is the goal of three days in a mason jar in the water in the crockpot?

1. I do not know but if I ever do this again I will try and record this.
2. no
3.That is how long it takes to boil off all the alcohol. Though this also seem to end up with the result decarbed based on lab results.

This is a family receipt

ok, thats awesome you have the test results. What did they say?
% thc 26.57
% cbd 36.73

I do not have the decarbed numbers handy but they where good. This was a batch of Pennywise btw. Lost access to free testing after this batch. I will ask for the full number if it would be helpful.

I was mostly wondering about the CBN conversion. For an extract the 26% THC is low, but if you soaked the plant material for 30 days it might make sense. I'm not sure I would use your method, but if it's working for you that's all that matters

I can't say what's best because I also don't have testing capabilities, but this is what I do I'm including a link for what I do. 1oz of 10% will give you 2800mg to work with. https://extractcrafter.com/2016/06/04/rso-rick-simpson-oil-using-the-source-home-healing/
This sounds great But this https://www.nutriteam.com/water-dis...ol-essential-oil-making-glass-collection.html seems like a better deal for the money.

Also this article:

goes into a lot more detail.

This is a post that reads as follows:
I have been using a glass distillation apparatus off ebay for a couple of years now. It was something around $65 for a vacuum version, you can use it either way. One use for it is when you clean your oil rigs you can reuse the alcohol many times, usually losing about 20 ml per 500ml distillation. Then you can reuse the resulting oil for lotions, or I guess you could eat it, or well if you were desperate smoke it.

I would love to get more details on that. I did reply to his post btw

Also tried to contact GOM there mailbox was full. Will try again later.

water distillation is a whole different animal, and it operates at significantly higher temps which wont work well with cannabis so it will be much cheaper because of its limited capabilities

SkunkPharm is awesome. They are most loved by me because they are where I first started my education on this subject, and are still my goto reference. Here is the post they made not to long ago about the Source https://skunkpharmresearch.com/2016...ft-source-turbo-ethanol-vacuum-recovery-unit/
