I know many of you are aware of the table put together by tdavie to show the effect of temperature on which active components are released. I've taken the liberty of turning it into a Vaporpedia entry:

http://www.vaporpedia.com/wiki/Vaporizing_Effects_by_Temperature

Since the Extreme has a digital temperature display, I thought some of you might find the table useful.
I have and do. Thanks! Bear in mind the Q's digital sensor is not a readout of the herb, it's a readout of the heating unit. Some compensation is therefore necessary.

Hence my second paragraph ;)

Feel free to correct or expand the entry though. I'd love to see more people using Vaporpedia.

Any advice on handling or preventing feelings of a sore throat from using this vaporizer? It seems like once I hit that 200+ celsius point that I will get a sore throat the next day (and a lot of questions about if I'm sick), even with only one or two hits taken.

Clean your glass and screen, upgrade your tubing, use a bong, bake only tasty weed, and don't blame it on the temperature. Each Q has its own sweet-spot and if yours is over 200c (like most) you can still learn to use it without the ill effects. :2c:

A water-cooled hit will definitely help. I think the airiness of the Extreme's hits causes more throat irritation than a higher vapor:air offered by other units. After I started vaporbonging a few months ago I can't go back to just the whip.

hi folks..

pretty new to this vape thing... jury is still out on how much i am liking it..??? (i think it's more about me NOT knowing the proper techniques and temps to use and the pretty poor quality of my current product)

re: product... if it's just vaping the active ingredient, should the quality really matter..?? seems even if i use a lot, things don't seem to improve..?? have tried some good product and didn't notice much difference..??

also, not finding it economical... have tried the elbow pack.. packing the bowl.. just not getting me where i used to get when i combusted..??

i need to clean my elbow and have no idea how.. it's looking pretty gooey and i'd love to try to vape it... i have read about the iso method.. but not really sure what to do...??

also, my tubing is starting to get pretty gooey looking too.. anything i can do with that..??

lastly, what can you recommend for a stopper on the bag or whip, so vape isn't escaping... ??

wanting to like my new unit.. can ya help me get there..PLEASE....!!!!

cheers,
mig

mig, product is more important to me vaping than it ever was when smoking. Better product means more and better (TASTIER) vapor, I no longer cringe at the price to be honest.

There's a bolded thread that stays on the top of the general vaporization page that explains how to clean vape parts.

I know some people have used the glass stirring tool to plug the end of a bag of vapor.

In terms of the high itself, the transition from smoking to vaping is tough for a lot of people and well documented on this site. The best advice I can give with the Extreme in particular is to experiment with temperature until you dial into your zone, maybe try higher temps during this transition. Product makes a huge difference IME.

@ mig and other noobs like me.

I've only had mine for about a week and I know what you mean. At first I wasn't getting the same high as smoking. Now I realize I can control my high unlike ever before. I will tell you how I do it below. I still plan to smoke occasionally in the morning or when groups of people are smoking around me but I've only smoked once since I got my EQ. The vapor tastes like whatever the herb smells like much more than smoking in glass OR paper.

I find it much more economical for me because I used to smoke about 4 to 5 joints a day with about .5 in each. In order to keep up at that rate I had to mix regs with my dank. Since I got my Q I don't need the regs AT ALL. I use about .2 in each bowl. Cutting my use down to about .5 a day.

From all my reading of this board I found many methods. This works for me:
1. Fill the bowl or elbow with .1-.2 of dank and warm it as I warm up the EQ for about 2-3 mins.
2. Set the EQ to 190 or so if the herb is really light and fluffy or 200 if it's harder.
3. You can use the bag from this point but I usually take slow and deep whip hits all the way to the chest (such a pure taste straight from the whip) and continue to inhale untill I start to feel it really built up and almost irritating my chest. I'm near choking at this point.

Edit: Still learning.....I skip the bag altogether now and use a beaker. Seems I use only .1 -.2 now on 200-210 with thicker tubing and ice in beaker and it's like 20+ full tube hits. Insane.

Pappy, yup vaporbonging only. I love the concentration of taste of a nice big water-cooled vapor hit. My current daily-driver is a Sheldon Black bub with a 6-arm downstem, its small with a thin mouth-piece and the taste is great. I used to use ice a lot but my 2 recent purchases are bubs that don't have the capability of holding ice, they diffuse a lot though and the hits are nice and smooth.

I'm after a bong for my Q but to be honest I'm pretty clueless when it comes to glass.
Can someone recommend a suitable one (preferably from a UK supplier such as everyonedoesit.co.uk)
Don't want to pay too much as will probably be buying a Vapexhale when they become available.

Many thanks

thanks for the replies... i'll keep persevering and hopefully find the sweetspot..:)

t'would be great to be able to get with one of you vape pro's for a 'show-me-the-way' lesson... anyone in the eastern ontario region... if so, shoot me a pm...

also, i have seen different tube sizes mentioned for replacement.. what is the correct size for the extreme q and where best to obtain it... any in canada..??

have tried to heat (with hot water) the tube from the glass for cleaning, but afraid of breaking the glass... any suggestions for an easy removal..??

thanks again for all your assistance..:)

mig..:)

Still waiting on my 18" beaker from Soulshinegass. His sandblaster is broken and I insisted Ray do his thing with my initials. Guess I won't be selling it on eBay. ;)

After having mine for a few days, I've come to a few realizations about the machine but I also have some questions.

I have found elbow packing to be LESS efficient than just packing the cyclone bowl. Any tips on the specifics of packing BOTH of these types of bowls?

For example, I'll preheat the Q to 200C, pack en elbow, let everything warm up for a good long time, set the fan on speed 3, and blow a nice big bag of very visible vapor. I then raise the temperature to 220C, stir the elbow pack, and blow another bag at speed 3 after letting everything warm up again for 5-10 minutes. After this, it is near impossible to get any visible vapor, and the herb is now a golden brown.

Compared to using my MFLB, I feel like I get less hits per bowl with the Q than with the MFLB.

Any advice?

sinkcolinsink,

its my view that doing away with both and constructing your own bowl to better suit the design of the vaporiser will yield best results. sadly the idea has never really caught on, i assume largely due to my rhetoric deficiency, but theres no harm in re-posting it i guess

Alway appreciated your experiment but never tried it. As some here know I don't use Elbow packs. I advocate using the Cyclone Bowl and do regularly. I fill half a bowl with about .3g and get 15-20 good rips. That's efficient enough for me and the Q bakes my OG to a rich chocolate brown. :brow:

I don't do elbow packs but if I recall correctly aren't they for the whip rather than for bags? (I don't do bags either.)

I'm with Pappy. My thinking is that Arizer didn't just toss any old piece of glass atop the Extreme, they did some research on what worked best. I get good results with the cyclone bowl as designed. I tried a couple of elbow packs, couldn't see the benefits. Hell, I have to dig out the elbow screen every three or four hits anyway.

^ The key to packing the Cyclone bowl is not to much and not too little.
Use enough herb to create the "cyclone" effect.
Start @ 200c and increase 5 degrees when vapor starts to thin.
Sip the whip.
Sporadically use fan on 1 to disperse herb.
Keep Elbow unclogged.
Don't bend whip (hold straight) when inhaling.
Stir occasionally.
Use clean glass and screens.

So guys, I finally have found something about the EQ that I dont like........

My wife loves it and vaping it so much, that she now joins me in m sessions! Now, don't get me wrong, I love being able to share that with the woman I love, but now I'm going through my bud quicker! Hahahaha. But, its a small price to pay. My wife had smoked maybe a total of 15 times in her life. (She's 30 now). Sometimes she liked it, but most of the time she didn't. It made her think too much and instead of winding down, her brain would go on overdrive. Well, now that I am buying mostly indicas and vaping it, she doesnt have nearly the amount of brain activitiy she used to from combusting. I think the vaping of indicas, and just vaping itself really takes away alot of the paranoia, or anxiety some may feel from combsuting sativas, or combusting itself. I love my EQ more and more each week. I've finally mastered the art of the whip pull. I haven't cleaned it yet though, and I'm getting a very nice honey colored build up that I'm itching to scrap or somehow extract. Just too lazy to do it tho! Anyway, thanks to all of you who gave me advice, etc. Y'all kick ass!

Can't stop the head rush!
One thing i noticed about fixing the heater cover on my Extreme Q is that after i replaced it, I could not get it to be straight, like the bowl was off-center. This was because when you screw the plastic heater cover holder together, it would push the cover to one side more than the other. Being a perfectionist there was just no way i could have my bowl off center, it was driving me nuts. So heres what I did: I took one of the extra insulators (the woven kevlar or whatever it is, that goes over the heater cover to keep it from melting the plastic) I had from my broken cover, and put it over the others right near the ground glass end. Its kinda hard to explain unless u are looking at it, but i have one near the glass joint, then put the next one on to cover the bottom, then put the extra third one near the joint again. This extra bit of material causes the plastic cover to hold each side evenly rather than pushing it to one side a bit.

Regarding vaping through a bong...I recomend getting a small bubbler or tube, as opposed to a larger beaker. I have a larger clear beaker, similar to the one Shiz is looking at (minus the worked part) and i find it is a little too larger for vaping. Not that my lungs cant handle it, I just find it takes away abit of the taste. Like the first 2 hits or so are still tasty, but just not as intense of a flavour. Also I find the big bongs give you huge rips and kill the elbow/bowl faster (not saying this is good or bad, you make the call which you like). Also Shiz, with the beaker bong, dont put too much water in the base, if so they can really 'chug' instead of the subtle constant 'purr' u want. I find when they chug you dont get a good even vape. :2c: I find vaping through my friends smaller tube is a slightly more enjoyabe experience, although i do like vaping through my beaker as well...
