"My conscience won't let me go shoot my brother, or some darker people, or some poor hungry people in the mud for big powerful America. And shoot them for what? They never called me nigger, they never lynched me, they didn't put no dogs on me, they didn't rob me of my nationality, rape and kill my mother and father. ... Shoot them for what? How can I shoot them poor people? Just take me to jail."

~ Muhammad Ali, 1967

I just read The Vision #1 and loved a bunch of stuff he said:
"To assert as truth that which has no meaning is the core mission of humanity."
"The pursuit of a set purpose by logical means is the way of tyranny (of his creator)... The pursuit of an unobtainable purpose by absurd means is the way of freedom."

“If everybody’s watching, you know, all of the backroom discussions and the deals, you know, then people get a little nervous, to say the least. So you need both a public and a private position. You just have to sort of figure out how to — getting back to that word, ‘balance’ – how to balance the public and the private efforts that are necessary to be successful, politically, and that’s not just a comment about today.”

~ Hillary Clinton

@grokit I know you posted this to show the comment as negative, but I don't see it that way. In my own life I have different positions in private than I have in public. I think I have to be chameleon like in most of my dealings with other people.
Does that make me hypocritical or diplomatic?
As I said before, much respect, and this isn't a set up. I'm just wondering what I'm missing.

I would say that you're not running for public office on a given policy platform, so whether or not your actions match your words doesn't really matter to me because you're not trying to get my vote.

I posted it because I thought it was interesting. If I wanted it to put it in a negative context, I would have posted it in the 2016 candidates thread and used it as evidence for building a case against her.

obligatory quote:

“We may find in the long run that tinned food is a deadlier weapon than the machine-gun.”

Okay. I'll allow that. :)

For some reason when I read this I immediately thought of:

Thanks to @syrupy for reminding me of these great John Waters quotes.

I thank God I was raised Catholic, so sex will always be dirty.

If you go home with somebody and they don’t have books, don’t fuck them. Don’t sleep with people who don’t read!

Collect books, even if you don't plan on reading them right away. Nothing is more important than an unread library.

I could never kill myself. I approve of suicide if you have horrible health. Otherwise it's the ultimate hissy fit.
