How many dabs do you get from average gram?
Do you do other than dabs?
Is tolerance through the roof?
How bad is your cough on regular basis?
Smaller hits = less cough?
Quick exhale. Choice or that cough?

Another great, intelligible, mouth watering review.

Glad you went into a bit about the Liger....temp of the body, that you were using the 20mm cylinder coil, etc.

Looking forward to your fuller review of the Liger 3.0

Cheers

How many dabs do you get from average gram?
haven't counted..i'd guess somewhere between 20-30?
Do you do other than dabs?
rarely smoke flower, enjoy an edible from time to time. i like sativa edibles.
Is tolerance through the roof?
eh...i go through a gram in about two days. higher quality stuff stays around a little longer..but sometimes i can't help myself :o
How bad is your cough on regular basis?
no cough. i don't smoke regularly enough. no cigarettes.
Smaller hits = less cough?
not necessarily. some strains like a really pungent OG will make me cough in small amounts.
Quick exhale. Choice or that cough?
tbh i hold my hits in longer than most people who consider themselves connoisseurs i feel. i'm old school and feel like holding it in for at least a second or two lets it..idk..get in there..probably just hurting myself as the word on the street is it hits your lungs as much as it can the second you inhale.

Thank You! I was attempting to get a snapshot of a "Dabber" and you filled out the profile for me. I was trying to understand a different lifestyle and you helped immensely.

getting ahold of some moxie extracts for this week's Terpy Tuesday!

Hi @ccchase420 - hard to believe its week 16 already. Seems like I just saw your first Terpy Tuesday....the button down look one (LOL).

I looked for it a bit earlier in the day and thought it was very selfish of you to not get up on east coast time and post this for those of us with the jones waiting for our weekly dose of concentrates review (and our dose of "I'm so fucking jealous" as we wait in my state for our lousy Govt to issue the Dispensary licenses :goon: haha).

I believe we discussed that I ordered a Gravlabs collaboration version of the Bates diffusion pump you have been using lately. On Gravlabs site, they do call it a collaboration and indeed would have to have big brass balls if they are advertising it like that (and putting the logo on) without this being an approved collaboration.

But, for $109 from Touch of Modern and a couple of weeks, and it arrived here today . Note the logo on the side.

Now, I will tell you that its pretty thin and lightweight. Not 5mm like my C2 and certainly not the Louisville Slugger weight of a piece of TAG I was given. I have a cheap set of calipers but couldn't find a place to take a direct measurement of glass thickness as there was always interference from the mouthpiece flare or the joint. But, I did take (as best I could) inside diameter and outside diameter of the neck and best I can tell its 2mm....maybe 3 if being generous. Its seems to be made very well, just light and I suspect I will break it before too dang long...if I do I will get a Bates from Aqualab.

How is your original Bates? Is it nice and heavy with fairly heavy glass or....?

Also, if I may pester you a bit more....do you really fill it to the line as shown in the pic below??

I plan to give it a try tonight with the Liger.

Thanks again for another Terpy Tues and hope that very soon when I see something intriguing reviewed I will be able to go out and buy something like it here in the "Free State" (where there ain't nothing even close to being free :bang:).

Please keep them coming. :tup::clap:

Well, I guess I have exceeded my limit for pesky questions. LOL

I have indeed now used the Gravlabs Bates collaboration with my Liger 2.0 and loved the function. However, can't use with a drop down as its too light and on the edge of tipping over.

Also, as can be seen the joint is angled a bit outward. Somebody on the board told me that their original from Bates Glassworks has a vertically oriented joint but, looking on Aqualabs, it appears that the originals also have an angled joint. Not sure quite why but this does not aid balance.

But for my objective, which was tighter control of the draw and less diffusion/better taste, I do like this glass with my Liger.

Just afraid that its so thin it won't last very long. If so, then I will buy a Bates version.

Cheers

pretty sure i typed up a response for this one and never clicked post reply :freak:

i'd definitely say mine is thicker looking at that picture. the foot is flatter which reduces the height and overall construction is much tighter.

that line is actually pretty low, i fill it a little closer to the bottom of the large maria. it's definitely one of those pieces that hits the same at various water levels, the only thing that changes when you add more water is the feeling of the clear.

Thanks Chase! I really like the design and if I continue to like it, I may just have to break down and buy one from Bates Glassworks.

@ccchase420 - ha..you are probably getting very tired of my once a week "I have questions" post. LOL

First, thanks again for a wonderful and enjoyable to watch review.

I do have a couple of questions if you have time to respond:

1. I don't have access to much in the way of bubble in my area right now. My question is, is the q-tip sufficient to clean up the residue after dabbing this stuff or does it take something more aggressive to clean your SiC insert?

2. I may have asked this already but...is the joint on your Bates X Worm truly oriented to the vertical. It looks like it is but I ask because my Gravlabs version has the joint angled out a bit away from the body. Also, the Bates Classwork visions on Aqualabs also seems to show it angled out a bit. Just wondering if yours is like that and, if angled out a bit, any idea of why they did that?

Once again thank you for another of your very enjoyable reviews and for considering my questions.

Cheers

@Baron23 not at all tired of the questions, keep em coming!

tbh the q-tip is not enough for this concentrate. anything less than a solid 5 star is going to leave a pile of soot in the cup that will only be pushed around by the q-tip. i actually just take the liger off the rig and q-tip it upside down over an ashtray until the soot falls out. definitely less than ideal, but works. worth mentioning that it doesn't really stick to the insert, it's more like loose dirt.

in regards to the bates joint, yeah, i was adamant about getting one that had a perfect 90 degree joint. luckily with the adjustable liger it would have been manageable either way, but i wasn't aware of the liger when i grabbed the pump and prefer 90 degrees always. i could only find one online that was 90 when i was shopping, it seems almost all of them are 45 or some random kinked angle. no idea why they would do this as it's really meant to be hit straight up and down.

I'll chime in from a bubble-producer's perspective here and say that Chase is right on the money in describing hash residue here.

A 4 star is going to have a taste of over-cooked contaminant, harsher vapor and leave a lot of soot on the dish. As Chase says, this soot doesn't stick to the dish and actually, IMO q-tipping is quicker to clean after dabbing a melty hash (even one that you realise wasn't melty enough to dab afterwards) than dabbing an oil because hash soot just doesn't stick to the dish, whereas oil leaves a discoloration on the dish.

I will say that instead of what Chase does to clean the soot from a 5 star (which still does leave a small amount of soot compared to oils - where the resin membranes responsible for soot formation have been filtered out) or less melty hash (this might happen if you get a mystery hash of unknown melt and decide the proof is in the dabbing lol - I do not recommend dabbing a hash known to be less than 5 star melt), I do things slightly differently. This does not require removal of the nail from rig, but is still a messy way of doing it. Have a vacuum cleaner/dustbuster nearby!

After q-tipping the dish, I cover the centre hole of the nail (I use a d-nail halo, obviously Liger users would cover the intake hole on the banger :) ) with a glass tool and blow on the dish - all the soot comes off exceptionally easily! You should obviously have your nail above a nice big hard surface to catch any falling soot, avoid getting that into any carpet/soft furnishings you might have lol

Edit: Man that Ice wax from Vegan Buddha looks so similar to some material I was dabbing/vaping the other day from a recent run (this is what I would consider the lesser of the hash I make, but still would prefer to dab this over any oil any day of the week!) - I would call that a 4.5 or 5 star from the look of it, it really doesn't have much visible contaminant at all in the macro shots. Does it taste burny at all when dabbing - can you taste the burning contaminant (especially at the end)?

@herbivore21 very slight contaminate taste if i really hit it until the bare end. i've found a bit of a sweet spot, still leaving a little bit of moisture to it to preserve the flavor. the velvet which is what is pictured in that dabber tip picture was a good deal cleaner, i'd say a full 5 star.

Definitely sounds like the Vegan Buddha is right on the borderline of a 5 star :) Good to see you erring on the lower side though, too many dispensaries seem to throw about '5 star' and '6 star' labels like they're going out of fashion (side note: they're definitely not lol).

I find that even 5 and 6 star bubbles can get a harsh contaminant-like taste at the very end of the hit too - it seems to be the meltier the resin, the later in the hit that it starts to get harsher and a bit burnt tasting (not necessarily an unpleasant taste, more like the end of a flower hit but less harsh, rather than the explosion of mouth-painting flavor that the beginning of a great full melt dab gives us).

The outer membrane of the resin gland appears to be a large part of what becomes the soot left on the dish in the case where there is no plant contaminant in the hash. This is an additional factor and why all the big hashmakers spend so much time explaining to folks that the better the flower was grown, the meltier the full melt is gonna be. More mature resin glands are going to have a larger resin fraction in each head compared to a smaller outer membrane. They are also going to have some more mass and so separate more readily from the trichome stalks and so are less likely to bring the stalk along for the ride (which is not so melty either).
Great to see you enjoying some full melt Chase, may your Liger overflow with it! :D :leaf: :peace:

@ccchase420 - Thanks for the response! If I do ever go with a Bates Glassworks version I would definitely want to ensure that the joint was vertical. I have no idea why in the world they did it as they did.

Cheers

Hey guys, just wanted to drop by in follow-up to our full melt discussion with a super high magnification shot of a light sprinkle of a solid 5 star full melt to see the contaminant close-up (300x magnification - to the naked eye this sample is almost invisible!):

CTmk2yd.jpg

As we can see, there are a few little flecks of non-crystalline plant material here. This stuff in addition to the membranes from these not-quite-mature heads (these are smaller resin heads from a 45 micron collection) results in a little too much residue to qualify as a 6 star IMO. :2c:
