What should I do with my Stems?

I've been saving up my stems (mostly beaster/mids quality) for awhile now and have about an Oz saved up. I've been thinking of what to do with them but can't make up my mind. Here are my biggest ideas:

* Green Dragon/Tincture. I've never made it or tried it but I've heard pretty good things about it. Anyone have any experience with it?

* I found this water hash method online and it sounds pretty cool. Has anybody else seen this? http://www.gardenscure.com/420/hash-hash-oil-kiff/93405-making-water-hash.html

* Cooking. Do you think there would be any effect whatsoever if I put an Oz of stems into a brownie mix or would it just be a waste of a lot of stems?

I don't smoke stems and I don't even know if you can vaporize them (can you?) so that's out of the question. What do you all think? Thanks!

P.S.
A lot have people have just told me to throw them out. Dont suggest that either -- it's ignorant :p

I would lash them together and make a tiny raft in the bathtub for my obi wan kenobi action figure.

Besides that, stem tea I guess.

Stems from good herb have some value. If you're inclined to save/harvest condensed vapor, then you may want to render your stems too. If I had to smoke 'em I'd rather toss 'em though. Vaping is pretty harsh too, but not as bad as smoke, and you can 'shave the bark', so to speak, to concentrate the potency. I haven't tried other methods, but I'd think some of the processes would work with stems as well.

make the water hash.

It will work and you will be happier than with any of the others

You won't get much making hash from this. I'd go for the green dragon, or extract with iso and mix in some ground bud once 3/4 of the iso evaporated, then finish evaporation.

Now this is something I have known for quite some time. I just shared this with my friend and figured I would share this with FC for those that never considered it.
Whenever I can I get my hands on some shake and trimmings, and the occasional stem or two, for vaporization purposes. There is enough viable THC in the shake and trimmings as well as on the stems to give yourself a nice vaping session.
I had a friend who ran out of herb and was smoking all his trimmings. I told him he should try vaping them instead, get more bang for his buck so to speak. He was blown away that he could get that messed up on trimmings of leaves and some shake.
I know several people who vape but either use their shake to smoke or make edibles. Stems too, (yes you can vape them don't smoke them though). But only if the stems have crystals on them.
None even considered vaping the stuff.

I tend to stretch my supply if I have some shake, stems, and trimmings on hand. I even successfully vaped a full bowl of stems.

and if you think about it, shake n stems can be the humble beginnings of hash if you know what your doing. So I so no reason why you shouldn't vape them

Hey guys, new to the site and its really awesome! (mad props for the name lol).

Anyway i hope theres not a thread about it already, but do you guys vape your stems? I usually just grind em up real nice and it seems to work good. What is the best way you have found (grind em, get kief, ect....)

Thanks, :peace:

i usually don't see any trichomes on the plant stems -- no trichomes, no thc ... what strain do you have that has trichomes covering the stems?

sometimes stems that were part of a bud could have some trichomes. I think its generally frowned upon to vape OR smoke stems, though it would be better to vaporize, in any case

I usually have some nice chrystals on my romulan stems. Even if it is not covered in trichomes there is still THC, just not as much. If i run outta bud ill vape what stems i got or make a tea

I really dont have a problem with smoking or vaping stems (although i only vape now). People complain of head-aches, but i have never had a problem. Try it out for yourself and see what you think

I don't know what you guys are talking about, my stems pretty much always have crystals on them. Never enough to make it worth it to smoke. I've never vaped them either, I just put them with my ABV.

Theo: x2.

I'm not as meticulous a stem-picker as I used to be (years of joint rolling had me picking out even the smallest ones) but I throw the big ones in with the ABV for sure.

Yeah all my stems have crystal structure. Throw the whole bud, stem and all in your grinder and vape it up. I highly doubt any headaches would arise but maybe it the temperature was high enough on your vape...

well, yeah, sure -- i throw those bad boys into the bud vial too, if they're not too big ... if you're talking about the stem that holds the bud together, but i was picturing the rest of the stems ... sorry, my bad.

And i still just say no to grinding (and plastic, and metal, et al). i do stir after about 4.75 mintues into the session, but no grinding. Ever.

If they get ground up, no big deal. They don't seem to negatively impact the flavour or increase harshness like they do when you smoke them. If I catch them before they go in the grinder I put them with the ABV.

EDIT: Which I save for cooking.

nr-cole,
First off, I only vape hops and mint leaves. :uhoh:

Damnit people, pull out your magnifying glasses. Those aren't trichromes, they're cystolith hairs, structures which plants use to shed water and make it more difficult for crawling insects to scale. Stems are trash.

Notice the complete lack of the essential "mushroom" structure you see in trichromes.

HD, I have read your entire bud toaster thread and enjoyed it thoroughly. I have always meant to ask you why you never grind your herb. I've always ground my weed because I have read here (ad nausium) that to get the best performance you need to increase surface area and grinding does this and bla bla. Do you not agree with that consensus? Or is it something specific about the bud toaster that makes grinding unnecessary?

Anyway, good luck with your bud toaster and continued success!!

Cheers

Stu,
I think Hippie does not grind his bud due to the harmful toxins that can come off the grinder and onto your bud. I might simply be speaking from my ass however. Hippe what is your opinion on using sissors?
