Discontinued The Grasshopper

Try the Evo without water, thats where I find the big difference. I am a flavour hound though.

I find it too hot. I use water filtration 90% of the time even on the go. For me vapor temp > flavour but that is the beauty of personal preference. I find it's just like food, if it's too hot you can't properly taste it, but once it cools to 'just the right temperature' the flavours come alive.

Wow I'm still in shock about all these posts about the hopper not satisfying you. I have a Cloud Evo and I have been preferring to use my hopper over the Cloud. I can understand if you guys are getting frustrated and it keeps breaking and that's why you are searching. And maybe that's why I am still in love (cause it still works).

Anyhow in my opinion the grasshopper is the best portable personal vape. I also have a mighty but it hasn't been used since I got the hopper. Although I'm gonna need to use it to exercise its battery LOL

Well to be fair, I sold my Evo once I got my Zion back, but I do plan to keep a Hopper around despite preferring my Milaana in almost every way... Don't have E-Nano but glass core HI is its own kinda wonderful and I enjoyed my Underdog very much as well

But yeah I don't know, in use even the first gen electric pure convection vapes Elevape and Firefly could be more satisfying potentially, ultimately Gasshopper is not quite the Thermovape/Solo successor i had hoped it would be (Milaana and Zion proved to be an idea in that regard)

It all depends on the individual, tastes being subjective and all, but prior vape experience is also a huge factor... I'd recommend buying a StickyBrick asap for anyone here who never tried that style of vape yet btw... Oh also VapCap for another very unique experience

Yeah so I still say cloud evo meets pax2 is GH, there are compromises but is very effective in many ways. I find Milaana to be like LSV meets mflb and that is more my style now apparently :2c::peace:

As I read through these recent posts, I see a mixture of two general types of people, people who love their GH and people like me who love the novelty and "cool" factor, but have some issues, be those mechanical or personal.

I can't help but think that some of these units are working much better than others. Or at least very differently.

When I hear @newVaper420 say it's a pocketable Evo, now I kinda laugh. Not because I don't think it's possible, his could be, but because mine is nowhere near that. Comments like that are what got me to order one from eBay with two right around the corner direct from HL.

Those two are probably getting cancelled and some more batteries can get ordered. But I don't have the patience or time on a daily basis to try and get a decent hit.

I still believe the majority of issues are in the design with a smattering of QC problems. I "think" I have a cool back end, but it definitely gets hotter as the battery level drops. That sucks! Battery is getting lower and you're losing more of it to waste?

Every once in a while I get an incredible hit, it's a little hot, but full and satisfying. But it's far from repeatable and that just doesn't work for me. I can only guess that it's when my hopper stars have aligned and all is right in its world. Unfortunately it's the less common outcome.

If this were my Evo in a pocket, I'd be ordering 12 batteries and leaving my order as-is. As it stands, this is a fun toy to pull out when I'm relaxing and have time.

I'm really tempted to change my order to one SS, the harder the metal the less conductive it is. When they first started shipping, I saw a few SS vs Ti comparisons, but not many.

I'm not unhappy with this unit, but at least mine is not what I'd consider dd quality.

To both of your well-stated points:

I have been thinking I'm headed toward another VAS episode, but yes, when it comes to portable - and when it's working well - the hopper is really incredible.

Over the past 3 days, I don't know why this is, but, the current "swap" I have going on with my two hoppers, this thing has been better than ever. If the colors matched, I'd keep it just the way it is even when they give me the new parts for them. Even the battery life seems way better.

Point being that if this thing worked all the time the way it is working now, I'd have no VAS.
But I just don't trust the hopper to keep functioning as well as it is now. And again, I'm not talking about "my one hopper", but a combo of the working parts from both while I wait for the replacement parts.
I feel that this device is too fragile to rely upon for daily use. My VAS is abated for the time being, but as soon as I get police lights again, I'm gonna be back shopping.

Anybody ever try the Plenty? It's made by the Volcano people. Looks like a Craftsman drill.

Rapid blue and red flashing is overheating, a slow flash is sensor damage

When I got the police lights, it seemed like "fast" flashing to me, yet I believe it is a sensor overload. The only reason I say that is, the lights flash before the heater even gets to temp - so how could it be "overheating"? That's just me talking to myself... I'm not disputing what the GH vids show, of course. Just weird. But in any case, either type of flashing, fast or slow, results in a no-questions-asked new body sent from GH. And they've seemed to be really speedy about these types of Warranty requests.

It all depends on the individual, tastes being subjective and all, but prior vape experience is also a huge factor... I'd recommend buying a StickyBrick asap for anyone here who never tried that style of vape yet btw... Oh also VapCap for another very unique experience

You can't build a proper collection without a Brick and a log! ;)

VAS is very tricky... just when you think you can deal....
I'm curious about this Brick. It looks so simplistic.
I would want something that is pure convection. I'd welcome testimonies on the Brick!

EDIT: I found the videos on the Brick... Nice, but I really don't wanna deal with a torch! Great clouds though!

I've had my Ti hopper for about a month and a half. since day one it had the flickering blue LEDs and the back end got hot. although it did seem to crank out the vapor pretty well, I started to struggle to get through one load on a fresh battery. seemed to work ok for the first draw on a fresh battery and then by the second or third draw the back end would get hot and vapor production would seem to drop off (wasn't sure if this was in my head?)

it wasn't in my head. I received a new back end today and for now all my problems are solved. solid LEDs, quicker heatup, and the vapor production is just PRODIGIOUS. I only thought it was working before. also the battery life is improved. on the old back end I would usually finish a load in about 4-5 draws (first three on heat 4, last couple on 5) and the battery would be drained to like 3.9v. long steady draws through a j-hook. new back end finishes a load in 3-4 draws (three on heat 4, last one on 5) and the battery is still showing around 4.05v by the end. the performance difference is major. shocking how much vapor I'm now seeing on exhale!

I thought others with similar issues might be encouraged by this. I'm surprised by the difference the new back end makes. I'm suspecting that many who are disappointed by their GH don't have a working one, sadly. hopefully the company can survive all these warranty claims because right now I love this thing. little cloud machine!

knock on wood...

I've been meaning to talk about the flickering blue lights. I've had those since day one and never had a problem with performance. Cool back end for the most part, and when it starts to get warm the twisting fix or an iso cleaning works wonders. 10 weeks in and going strong...

My lights start to flicker on the second hit of a fresh battery. They flicker more and faster as I draw, and when the battery gets depleted. By the last couple hits they are flickering like crazy.

Also, mine has made the clicking noise since day one.

At the same time, I can't help but think, what if mine is defective? What if it shouldn't be blinking? I've been at a solid 8 for performance, maybe I should be at 10. Maybe that's why I'm not as enamored with this device as others.

Such thinking can drive you crazy...

So I try to just relax and enjoy my SS hopper. Maybe one day it breaks completely and when the replacement comes I realize what I was missing. Who knows...

I have to admit I am curious to see how my Ti's performance will compare.

My back end gets hot but I get ridiculous production. So I'm not questioning anything yet. Nice dark brown ABV.

My replacement backend still does get hot, but the performance is substantially better than previously. So I think it's one of those things you either live with, or you bitch and moan to HL hoping to eventually get it fixed.

My hopper is now 9 weeks old and I'm still using it at least once a day. One thing I should note, I am using 4 batteries, I cycle through them evenly (usually averaging 2 sessions before I intentionally swap, never letting the batteries 'run out').

Moreover I have not used the included USB charger ONCE since purchasing the vape. I carry my D2 charger if I think I might need a charger. Otherwise I simply keep a few of my batteries charged and I don't have a problem.

Same here. I'm honestly a bit superstitious about this. Once I get my Ti I may use my USB charger, so at least I have a backup if it breaks one of my hoppers. I can't see a need to use it unless I was going on a long road trip or something. Even then I'd rather just get something like this, I could use it in my car easily, thanks to @MoltenTiger for first posting this USB charger:

https://www.amazon.com/XTAR-MC2-Charger-14500-Li-ion/dp/B00Q2KSJN2

Before you finish soaking it, get a pipecleaner, bent-to-shape, and give the threads a good wipe over and rinse it a few times. That should do the job pretty well, I've had success doing similar without soaking it.

My new charger arrived today, Xtar MC2.

Works well. 61% remaining and I've charged 6 batteries. Chambers for days :science:

I will say just this, and then back to GH on topic, but the Brick may be one of the purest forms of convection really, and having the torch as your power source is worth it for the next level signature. I too was trepidatious about them, but Daisy made me a believer, the simplest way to use a torch if you gotta, don't discount it completely just yet (I had a friend buy it first bc he was curious to try a torch vape, then I got Lily later and Daisy when they were discontinued, not testing StickyBrick Jr). It's speed and power are truly just unmatched by anything else I have used. But other wooden manual vapes are funny too...

Anything more analog would compliment the more digital GH well, ofcourse could always go conduction but if its not a VapMan or VapCap it'll could pale in comparison to any pure convection vape like the Hopper, but some weaker sessioner s could still be good fun vas fulfillment and/or useful for groups

Does anyone use the hopper without clicking it properly? Tried it out yesterday by just depressing the clicker a little bit and hold it to get it going... Needed to do it that way, loud on and off clicking wasn't stealthy enough. Can anyone tell if this will do any harm to the hopper?

Thanks guys :)

Nearly everyone when they first use it fails to click it on, I need to tell people to click it like they mean it
It's too finicky IMO to use it holding the button, I prefer just to click it, though it does make some sound. It shouldn't harm the device, although if you accidentally turn it off it'll red light mid drag, which might not be great for the unit long term.

Got two new glass rigs today, hopper has been effecting me all day.
Xtar MC2 charger still working flawlessly, has had a work out so far.

There is some performance difference between my hoppers, the newer one is consistently better. Bigger clouds, better ABV colour and cooler back end. Not a lot of difference but it is consistent.
I might look at getting some conductive grease/deoxIT for the back end of my older unit, see if it improves functionality.
From what I gather though, software calibration might play a bit of a role in how these things function.

*after some previous page reading, I'll see how I go with my old back end.. I might need a replacement. I'll give the plain a go with the blue backend soon, see if it changes performance.

Ive read about this method and wanted to try it since the clicking annoys me sometimes. The only time I did the Hopper worked fine but the back end got wicked hot. This was the only time in a month's use that back end got hot.

I just had a conversation with a Metallurgical Engineer from a company that specializes in dissimilar metals, hybrid metals, and general metal work for hi-tech industry. I've known him for years. He's one of the first people who've perfected the science of "explosion bonding" ( http://www.explosionbonding.com/ ).

The black sooty matter that comes off the threads IS Titanium OXIDE. It is oxidation. It is not Titanium dust. If it was just "dust", it wouldn't be so black, he said.

When a DC current runs through those threads, that being an imperfect path for conduction, and depending on humidity, Titanium Oxide is created in those resistive (air-gap) places.

At least I know what it is, now.

I have had the same thing going on... my second Ti wasn't performing the same as the first.
While GHL has to check it out, I maintain that the backend isn't quite the same quality as the other. IT has some "wiggle room" between the Temp dial and the rest of the back end. Even the center contact seems misaligned slightly. I'm hoping GH agrees once they look for themselves.

This is a crucial bit of research you have done here, Joe. Thank you.

Were they fast blinking lights or slow? It is possible to cause the hopper to temporarily overheat, especially when using it with water. Rapid blue and red flashing is overheating, a slow flash is sensor damage:

N3rDKlf.jpg

The first video in this page shows both patterns:

I like to repost this link from time to time for those that don't know about the fixes resource:

Its the sensor, I get red and blue every time. Tried the suggested fixes and nothing changed. Ah, well. Thanks for the links.

Edit: I don't even know what to say. I dropped it on the carpet when I stood up from posting, and it started working again. Maybe my sensor is loose...

My hopper showed the cop lights for a brief second yesterday, and today I decided to give it a cleaning:

There was some black gunk building up on the upper part

73f2e451ce466ef7950e8635012b96ba.png

Besides the usual cleaning (soaking mouthpiece on iso 90%+, cotton swabs with iso on the chamber etc) I also cleaned with iso the both ends of each one of my batteries, the cotton swabs were grey-ish in the end.

Don't worry, guys, it gave me 2 dissatisfying hits and then went back to squad car lights.

I cleaned my potentiometer and negative battery contact in the clicker part earlier, and now that I'm looking at my positive battery contact (only thing I'm not sure how to clean), it looks like a target. Is that normal?

If you go back...oh, I'm guessing 10-15 pages there are pictures of other's positive battery terminal an circuit board and yes, everybody seems to have the gold plating wearing off of the terminal (or at least that's what I think it is).

Cheers
