Milaana or GH (I already had a Ti GH and sold it)

So I had a Ti GH for a couple of months and it really is an amazing vape, but the vapor was too harsh for my lungs/throat so in the end I decided to sell it.

Right now I just sold my pax 2 because I wasn't using it at all, it was the vaporizer that I take with me while traveling but lately I'm using my Ti Glassy or Omnivap for that.

So right now I'm in a point that I want a proper on demand vaporizer, able to white wall a bong/rig/bubbler and portable. I'm gonna use it mainly at home when I'm in a hurry and can't wait for the EVO to heat and want to vape through water or at bed (right now I use the firefly 2 for that, but some times I just want a facemelt bong hit hahaha)

So far it seems like most people says that the vapor quality is better with the Milaana than the GH and also better flavor, less harsh. Also I'm pretty sure that 18650 batteries last longer and will be easier/better if I go on a weekend trip to just bring 4 18650 for the whole weekend, right?

Don't get me wrong, I think that the GH is an amazing vaporizer but the vapor is too hot/harsh for me to enjoy it without a bubbler. It's better with the Milaana?

Thanks for your help guys!!

Sorry, my hopper hasn't arrived yet, but I have a Milaana and don't find it harsh at all. There is a learning curve, but plenty of info on the Milaana thread. Greatly prefer using it through a stem to water. Just better taste, although my favorite "mouthpiece" is a 14/18 so I can go to water once the taste fades. Based on the hopper thread I'd say it runs hotter; many over there prefer water. Just my $.02 :2c:

The GH for me was a throat killer, had to use it through water if I didn't want to end coughing for the rest of the day. I decided to sell it after having the throat sore for 2 or 3 days after a full day using it dry.

But I thought you can get darker ABV from the Milaana (higher temps) with the right technique. A lot of people compares the Milaana to a log vape or a desktop in his post!

Hopper is definitely a unit where water is preferred for me. One thing I will say is I find that max temp (5 out of 5) is absolutely not necessary for flowers at all and tastes a bit bad compared to 4/4.25 (both of which give more whitewall than my Evo does at my usual flower temps!). I think that the nominal temps on the Hopper need to be understood in terms of the positioning of the heater (really fucking close to your mouth lol).

410f on a Mighty vs 410f on a hopper are very different propositions. The mighty does not have as powerful of a heater, and the heater does not have the same efficiency when heating air (just feel the heat of the air from a dry hit on the hopper at max temp vs the mighty, even if you take the CU off and use a muzzmod for direct draw the hopper produces a needle of comparatively piercingly hot air from that compressed mouthpiece outlet). For a number of reasons, that 410f wherever/however it was measured in the Mighty does not equal (or even approach) the heat applied at the nominal 410f setting in a hopper. A lot of people may find the hopper too hot because they are using what are nominally the same temps as they've had success with on other units. In those cases, it could be helpful to try dropping the temp a bit. I find that the hopper gives huge clouds on lower settings too, but that classic convection first 'warm-up' hit becomes more necessary before the whitewall.

The above will only apply to a portion of cases and we can't escape that the hopper is on the whole a hot unit with a short distance between the heater and your mouth.

What really needs to happen is somebody needs to design an extended mouthpiece tip for the hopper (the milaana has stem options that have considerably longer paths between the heater and the mouthpiece tip which helps, convection vapes with very short vaporpaths are always gonna be very harsh on the throat).

I wonder if @mestizo could machine something to suit if we could get the details of the thread size and tolerances used on the hopper mouthpiece to him?

I have found that when you use a 14mm straight dome (Pyrology make domes in this shape, I am sure plenty of other cheaper manufacturers do too - just a cylindrical shape with a gong at the bottom with no sphere shaped dome) upside down over the hopper's silicone cover, it fits super snug and makes taking direct draw hits at 4.5 distinctly less harsh. Keeping your lips only touching the top of the 14mm female gong at the end makes long hot direct draws much smoother! Without this, temps beyond 3/3.5 are brutal when directly inhaling from the hopper, with or without the silicone.

What my experiences described in the last paragraph has taught me is that the hopper can very easily be smoothed out for dry hits with just a bit longer of a vapor path after the heater.

I do think in the end that custom mouthpiece design is the solution here. Perhaps some strategically placed heatsink fins that look like a pen grip could be placed on a modified mouthpiece tip for example?

Maybe cold air inlet/s further up the stock mouthpiece section could draws in cold air after the heater and take the vapor back down a few notches temp wise?

Glass with a threaded metal base and o-ring type dealio could work quite well here too!

I can't offer much info on the Milaana since I have not used one, but it is clear that there are a lot of basic commonalities between the two units' functions and that the Milaana's longer mouthpiece/stem seems to benefit the throats of users in stock configuration vs the hopper.

I own both. I pretty much only use the hopper when I'm in a VERY public place and need to be stealthy. For a lot of the reasons you described, it is not the holy grail of vapes. It's harsh, hot, and not even close to the tastiest vape out there. Combine that with the pure fear of having hot backend issues and it's hard to pick up.

It's also great for showing a friend, esp friends that don't vape because it demos very well. But then, still not great for a group session.

But the Mi blows it out of the water for me. Even more powerful, but with very finite manual user control. Between the screen placement, draw speed, and button holding you have tons of control over your vapor so you can get tasty sips and huge rips and everything in between with ease. Temp stepping feels very natural.

This also means it has a learning curve though, so if you're not prepared for that it might not be for you. I find it to be very intuitive and rewarding though ymmv.

The vapor can be very smooth and very tasty, esp compared to the hopper. I even use my super short wood stem from @Alan and still get smooth vapor -but you're in control. If it's too harsh for you, you need to lay off the button or change your draw speed.

I use it with water and dry about 50/50. Water allows for amazing rips, pretty much equal to the GH in a lot of ways but much tastier.

The other thing is that you CAN combust with this vape, unlike the GH. It's a sign of how powerful it is but you need to be aware of this if you want to avoid it.

And just to be clear because there's a lot of misinformation going around: You can't use ANY 18650 with the Mi. You need to make sure they're high-drain, 20A batteries from a legit source. It's an unregulated device, so if you put in a battery that can't handle it, it could be very dangerous. That said, a good source like IMR has them readily available and very affordable.

The Mi is my favorite vape, hands down. You can see in my signature how many vapes I own, and I've tried a few others like the volcano and ssv. But this one is by far the best. It has a lot of the best attributes of a lot of different ways. People call it a portable log but it's more than that. It's much more versatile and controllable than a log.

It really is a shame that the materials used in the Milaana make it out of the question for my needs (way too broad of a bowl in diameter for efficient hash use too - can't do no espresso pack in that sucker without using MOUNTAINS of hash lol). There does seem to be a lot to like about it otherwise though and for flower use it really seems to have earned a much-deserved following!

One thing I will say is that I can't distinguish the taste difference between my Grasshopper on 4.25 and my Evo at 1-2 o'clock on the dial. I think the taste is hugely underrated with the hopper (temp 5 is a different story, doesn't get the best flavor because it is just too hot for flowers IME). It is delicious when you dial in the right temp and aren't hitting it at so high temp for direct draws that the hot needle of air is distracting you from enjoying the flavor. I actually wonder if the fact that my 14mm dome glass extender mod is changing that needle jet of hot air from the narrow mouthpiece tip into a much broader stream of hot air that is therefore more diffuse and less harsh?

I am very sensitive to hot direct draw vapor, found the Mighty too harsh past 380 or so when drawing direct from the CU. I have not had the same problem with the Hopper when used with the glass mouthpiece extender mod I mention above and keep temps below 4. YMMV but for anyone with a hopper this might help them on the go.

I never get hot back end issues with the unit I have now btw. First unit was another story lol

What I do think is that the comparisons here are going to be very inconsistent until hopper labs provide consistent performing units across the board and work on that ridiculously high failure rate lol - this is the elephant with a burning ass stampeding around the room!

I've never used hash but you CAN use a smaller bowl with the Milaana. You just need an 18-14mm reducer and a 14mm stem/screen. @DDave makes the perfect kit for this.

Again, I don't really know about hash so I don't know if that's the right size for you or if anything else isn't ideal, but just throwing that out there.

That is exactly how I modded the D-nail herb nail! Great idea! I might be in touch with you soon enough @DDave :D

Thanks for this one @ZC !

@herbivore21 -- nice description of the GH. Let me add some thoughts to the mix -- I own the VC, GH, and Mi, so I have a bit of experience that might be good for @b0.

I like the VC and want the best for George. That said, I like big bowls, so the Ti series VC just barely meets my needs. I like the VC for hikes, where I'm out and about but won't necessarily be bumping into other people. The device itself is pretty discrete, IMO, but the torch always makes discretion more difficult.

In response to what @herbivore21 said about the bowl size of the Mi... The Mi has a huge bowl, but the adjustable screen makes all the difference for me -- it's the circumference the inside of an 18mm joint, no matter how you slice it, but when it's only 2-3mm deep I can load bubble or small dabs no problem. I have a pretty high tolerance, so take that into account - I like a fairly big bowl. The Daisy bowl, for instance, is fairly oversized for my requirements (still love packing it full, lol). As for the efficiency... I get a lot of hits out of everything and can take my abv to a darker shade than the GH -- similar to the nice chocolate abv I get from VC, but there isnt much conduction going on with the Mi.

The GH is super tiny and tastes great through water (I usually don't get much flavor through WT's). Heats up fast and delivers bubbler clouds fast, and you can't char the load. The size and shape are amazing. It also has super bright LEDs that are annoying at night, the air coming out the tip (stock setup w/ or w/o silicone) can definitely scald you if it is aimed at tissue near the mp (lips, gums, tongue). The vapor is more harsh than Mi, but with certain workarounds definitely delivers. The whole unit gets impossibly hot during extended use. I even got it to quit out on a fresh battery and bowl, because I overheated it when taking bong rips. That never happened hitting it dry, so this was a new experience for me. The Mi has never crapped the bed because I used it too hard in a session.

Basically, if the GH vapor was too harsh for you, the Mi *is* less harsh dry and you can get your abv to a much darker color. I use Zion and Mi dry, exclusively. I've tried WTs a few times, but haven't got my rhythm with it.

Thanks for all your help guys!! Really apreciated as always :)

In the end I decided to order a Milaana from PV with a m2m adapter and their PVFS shor steam just to try it. Hope to be reporting some news by the end of next week!

To be honest I expect to love this vape, it sounds like my kind of vape

FWIW, I don't know shit about using my Mi or Zi with water. I've had the Zi since January and have yet to use it with water more than once. This is partially due to availability of adapters that fit (my production heater does not fit any of the linked eBay or Dhgate adapters; others may have this same problem, as we've seen with the @DDave kit), lack of experience vaping through water, and lack of need (I already get lung-busting hits dry). Honestly, I think that speaks for the comfort of using it dry (I often have discomfort with other vapes).

I'm really glad to hear this, my main reason not getting the GH is because the vapor is to harsh for me. Well, that and the property batteries and that they don't last too much...

I have both units as well.

My GH experience has been okay..the excitement has waned with all the inconsistencies. My lights stop working and then magically appear again for an afternoon or two just to disappear again, but I'm not itching to send it in for warranty again.

It performs well though. I wil have to try 4.25 on the dial as 4.5 kinda kills the flavor for me, but man does it whitewall!

The vapor does get quite hot while directly drawing, but I've got something at home I want to try and rig up tonight by connecting a 14mm reducer and using that to connect to an 18mm female vaporizer adapter that I believe I purchased from @Oregonglassblower awhile back for another vape. If that works then it'll be simple enough for me to pocket around.

The milaana has been pretty good to me. However, I still have not tamed it enough to consistently pull hits through my bubbler without risking combustion. It's a tricky game and a very fine line between a perfect rip and a stinky charred mess. It seems others have perfected this to an art.

I accidentally bought the wrong kit from @DDave but i kept my order because I can find other uses for the parts. Is his milaana kit for sale anywhere other than eBay? Last I checked it was sold out.

In any case I prefer the milaana overall but I prefer to just use it for myself because when I have brought it out in groups people always seem to combust with it because they forget to feather or don't realize how long they're holding the button for.

For what it's worth both are excellent vapes, but if I were only to choose one it would probably be the milaana. My biggest gripe with the grasshopper is that it's battery life is pretty terrible and I'm always wondering if it will power on tomorrow.

Milaana has been super reliable, the only thing that troubles me with it is my inability to nail it through water, which is just personal preference, as I love seeing a good milky bubbler hit.

Wow, maybe it's just me, but I don't find the Grasshopper that hot. I do await you reviews of the Milaana. It is @Bravesst 's favorite vape :-).

I just know that I wouldn't be able to use the Milaana outside with the glass stems and all. Just would be too crazy for me (but maybe I'm overthinking it). I got my grasshopper last Monday and it's been wonderful to me.

Aye I don't know it was weird. At some point I had to stop using it because my throat was too sore because of it and for 2 days I had to stop using it and take something for the pain in the throat. That's why I decided to sell it.

The reason I wasn't sure wich one to buy it's because I still feel like I should give the GH another chance. I don't know, it's an amazing device and everyone seems to enjoy it and I never had that issue with any other vape before. I still don't understand it

That's why I was thinking about buying a GH first and if I had the same problems I can always sell it to buy a Milaana or trade it. But in the end I decided I want to try something new. I really like that the Milaana uses 18650's, how it works and being able to use it in different ways (I always loved my MFLB, even if I don't use it too often anymore...), the glasspath, hhow powerful it is, convection and to be honest most of the users here enjoying it are people who's opinion I really respect and that really got me interested on it. I really think that I'm gonna love it :luv:

I think your going to love it too :-). I find myself wanting to purchase one as well including a Zion but to honest I probably would never use it outside due to all the glass pieces. I'm not sure how I could use a milaana or a Zion walking in NYC whereas I definitely could use a grasshopper or even a mighty (I have used the mighty LOL)

I'm not really into comparisons, but this is the place for it. Milaana changed vaping for me even more than going from combustion to vaping, so I'm bound to be a bit bias. I do think I have a pretty good handle on portables, and even desktops, but limited butane. I owned over 20 vaporizers. I've spent many hours mastering Milaana. I had a GH for a couple of weeks, but did give it a good try.

For me, Mi beat the hopper in almost every department

Taste - not even close, Mi is the purest thing I've ever tasted herbwise
Efficiency - Milaana stem system makes it as efficient as you want it to be. Most efficient vape I've used.
Effect - I'm sure the hopper can get you there, but I'm slammed by Mi in a few volumous hits. The 18mm airpath is hard to beat
Unregulated - is like a manual transmission, tough to learn, but so much control
Cleaning- not sure about GH in the long run and not horrible daily, but Milaana is virtually maintenance free except for self cleaning the screen

I found GH to be somewhat hot and harsh. It is a cool piece of equipment, and I love the look and feel, as well as the concept, but I also love my steampunkish block of maple with minimal unregulated electronics.

Yeah definitely @Bravesst makes me want a Milaana badly as well. Maybe around Christmas time. LOL.

But I have zero issues with my Grasshopper or my Mighty.

The only thing that worries me is I prefer my Evo to my log and if the grasshopper is a portable Evo and a Milaana is a portable log, I'm not so sure. Again, I'm not even sure that's a valid analogy.
