Getting My First Vape & Need Advice

I started researching about the conservation/efficiency/health of vaping a few days ago and it's really started to get me interested in trying it out. I'm a pretty heavy, all day smoker so it seems most regular session-type vapes won't do the usual trick (as far as I've read).

I was torn between getting a log and getting the Mighty, but ended up siding with an e-Nano as my first vaporizer though I haven't bought it yet as I wanted to post here first. I figure I can continue with how I smoke now (waterpipe) and still get pretty big rips, while having the convenience of it being at temperature all the time.

I figure if I find that I love vaping, I'll grab a mighty and ditch combustion for good (mostly just want it for early morning/later night sessions and when I go hiking). Do you guys think this is a good choice?

My secondary question is about accessories. I want to get some new glass for my e-Nano and am not sure what to get. I am really new to vaping, so I'm not sure what even comes with the eNano in terms of a "full" kit to start when you get it. I read DHGate D022 bubbler is a good way to go, so I thought I would get that alongside the GonG adapter. Is this all I need?

Thanks so much for a fantastic community. I've spent a good chunk of the last few days reading over the forums and it's filled with some great information!

Welcom @Clickz !

I wish I could help you, but I have no experience with the e-Nano. Have you posted your questions on that thread? I'm sure people will help you there.

Regarding your decision on which vape to get as a first, it's a wide open field and I expect you figured out there are a lot of factors to consider. Unfortunately, I don't think most here have found there is a one, perfect vape. But building a collection is part of the fun!

Since you're new to this, you may not know until you jump off the cliff. For me, after owning several I've discovered that convection is a better fit. I just prefer to be able to control my pacing rather than be required to finish a session (use it or lose it). So for now at least, for me the grasshopper is the best fit. But I still love my others.

I also have the Crafty (the Mighty's little brother). They both have great flavor and are easy to use. Not super durable though, and cleaning the "cooling unit" (cu) is a pain. In fact, I suggest you get at least one extra cu if you go down that path.

If you haven't, I also suggest you spend some time on Buzz Danklin's site (vaporizerwizard.com). He does great reviews (good videos too), ranks vapes, and has some comparisons too. You may also want to check out the Vape Critic.

Have fun, let us know your decision, and then if/how much you are happy. Vaping is a different experience, but I'm confident that once you start down that road, you'll never go back!

All of the above of course (nicely written Mr. Me2) and just a slight warning. Sometimes folks get a little disappointed when they first try vaping. It's a different high. Sure the temp you vape at makes a difference in that the higher temps are closer to combustion effects, but in general the whole vaping high is much cleaner and more cerebral. Takes a while to experiment with different temps to find just what you like but it will definitely be worth it in the long run. Best of luck!

Congrats on your move towards vapes! I wanted to toss out a suggestion for you to look at if a log is top of you list.

The milaana from rasta buddha tao (rbt)

I have an underdog log vaporizer and love the on-demand hits along with ease of use. I find the milaana to be very similar in this respect and is portable for hikes. The batteries are cheap 18650 that can be found on ebay or e cig vape shops. To use through water you would need a gong but they can be found for under $20. This vape can produce huge hits with in second from cold start, it may not look like the most interesting beautiful vape, but it sure can out perform many top of the line vapes.

Just something to add to the plate of consideration and hope you find the right one to fit your needs!

Thanks so much for taking all of the time to answer. I definitely read about the CU being a pain to clean, so I'd def order at least 1 or 2 extra if I get the Mighty down the road. I read the reviews on both of these sites, but I find it hard to really make a decision. The videos seem to be very subjective to them vs. reading forums you seem to get a better idea of a lot of people at once.

I ended up going with the eNano for on-demand vaping, see how I like it, and switch completely if I do :)

Appreciate it! I definitely read that the high is different, and I'm ~90% recreational user (anxiety) that uses heavy. I do enjoy a cerebral high, but I'll definitely be experimenting with different settings to try to see where I like best. I almost went with the Mighty off the bat, but because of this I decided to go with a log. This way it's not a very expensive way to enter the vaping market.

Congrats on your move towards vapes! I wanted to toss out a suggestion for you to look at if a log is top of you list.

I've read great things about the Milaana, but had just read more things about the Mighty. I may just have to pick up both. I actually use an e-cig as well (for the last 7 years), so I have ample batteries/chargers on hand. Thanks for the input!

I think you made an awesome choice going with the nano. I'd recommend trying both stem types, but you should be fine with either.

If you end up liking the on-demand nature of the nano and want something portable, I recommend looking into these guys:

- Firefly 2
- Grasshopper
- Milaana (haven't tried, but heard it the next best to a log)
- Haze Square (not yet available)

On the other hand, having a sesh and chill vape like the crafty/mighty is highly advisable to mix it up and have a few options. Make sure you try the dosing capsules. They make vaping too easy.

Thanks! That's 2 people recommending the Milaana now over the Mighty for portable vaping. I think I'll have to look into it (I'll grab both if I get into vaping). I like the idea of vaping sessions when out and about, but on-demand is very nostalgic to me as well.

About 2 nights ago I actually had a Mighty in the cart with some extra CU's and their pack of dosing capsules. Almost pulled the trigger until I read more. I read good things about them so I definitely will get them when I add to the collection.

Just to add to what @Philreal187 , the Milaana really is a top contender.

I love my logs, I have a collection including 2 UD's, a HI, Toasty Top, and even a couple of homemade logs. They're great.

But if I'm honest I almost never touch them anymore. I use my Mi almost exclusively and my grasshopper when I need stealth. Everything else collects dust.

Before I had the Mi, the UD was my daily driver. The main difference (besides portability) is that while they both produce as much power as you could need, the Mi has manual heating. So you can time you button presses to reach any heat you desire, and can go from a light, tasty session to choking on huge clouds anytime you want. It's the flexibility and versatility that makes it hard to pick up other vapes.

I pull out my other vapes every once in a while for some variety, but the Milaana is the only vape I couldn't do without.

Welcome to FC, and the nano nation! You are really in for a treat, especially when it comes to flavor. Before long you may wonder how you ever combusted. Because of flavor alone I could never go back to combusting.

It's great that you are already embracing VAS (vaporizer acquisition syndrome). Most people resist at first.

The truth is, each vaporizer has benefits and drawbacks, so there isn't one perfect vaporizer to rule them all. It's like vehicles, they come in all shapes and sizes with different features.

Luckily, we are in a great period for vaporization, and cannabis culture in general. The intersection of legalization combined with the increasing interest in vaporization has led to a lot of exciting new vapes. Some of them are cutting edge, and others could have existed decades ago if conditions were right.

I won't make any suggestions, all of the vapes mentioned previously are great. If you stick around it won't be long till you read about the other top-tier vapes.

The E-Nano thread is a very helpful place so make sure to stop in there if you have any questions. :peace:

I'll have to look into the Mi. I've read some more reviews on it since and it definitely seems great. What would you say the main difference between it and the mighty is? I like the idea of packing a decent size bowl or carrying around the dosing capsules for going out/camping/hiking.

I don't particularly want to have to measure/pinch/adjust outside. Maybe as I get more into vaping and enjoying having more control. I'm sure everything will come into place as I try things. Thanks for the advice!

I highly recommend the grasshopper. What a vape. A great one. I love it. The mighty is a good choice, but the grasshopper deliver lung busting hits. It's really incredible.

Yeah I had seen the grasshopper and wasn't sure if it was a right fit for me. I may pick one up later on for stealth but I also don't want to spend too much money upfront. I know the Q3/Q4 announcements are coming and no doubt there will be some new things. E-cig technology has come a ridiculously far way in only a few years, so I can only imagine the same about vaping flower/concentrates.

Thank you! I won't lie, I smoke the majority of the time to get high and stay high - so I'm interested to see how vaping compares. I know it's different, but I'm excited to see.

Yep - it's the same way with e-cigs. There's no one to rule them all, but there's always some that are better than others. That's mainly the reason I wanted something good right off the bat. When I got into vaping e-cigs, I spent far too much money upfront with the "beginner" equipment rather than just going straight for the higher end mods. I'm sure as I try and learn more, I'll also see what suits my needs the best :)

I definitely agree on the last part - we are going to see some fantastic advancements over the next few years. Thanks again for the reply!

Glad to see you ended up going with a log. I think everyone should have one as part of their vape arsenal, for many it'll end up as a daily driver for others it'll be used for flavorful treats and getting some of the best tasting hits I've had.

I've also found through trial and error, as has a few others, that a vap cap is a extraordinary companion to a log both for on the go and if you're wanting to get more of that conduction feel. It also has the benefit of being on demand. It has the benefit/drawback of being a externally heated vape(usually butane). Pros of this don't have to worry about electricity, cons uses fire, some people think the basic model looks like a crack pipe, can accidentally combust if you don't pay attention to the click(but this is barely a con as the click system is super easy to pick up and I found Vapcap operation to be way easier than expected.) While I prefer convection most of the time, even when the log is an option I sometimes, usually right before bed, if I haven't taken an edible for sleep, reach for my Vapcap for the heavier feeling I can get from conduction vaporizing after a cycle or two. I also find that varying the load in logs and in the Vapcap allow you to have either quick one hitter loads or to have slightly more session style loads. And if you don't leave your log on all the time(which for most logs can be done without issue) the on-demand nature of the cap can get you started while your log heats up.

Logs and caps are a match made in heaven and sometimes they get me feeling like I'm in heaven :)

Welcome to the world of vaporization it's fantastic here if you give it a chance. At least initially while adjusting to the profile of a vapor high rather than a combustion high, it is frequently recommended that you as much as possible only vape for a bit to acclimatize. Some find that vapor is all they need, and some find that occasional combustion is right for them, though this forum certainly leans one way over the other

The E-nano a wise choice. I have 2 and really love using them. They are beautiful and they give excellant vapor flavor and you save on cannabis.

It will be important, once you receive your nano you will need to stop smoking your cannabis. If you continue to smoke you won't feel a good high from your meds while vaporizing. The nano temp ranges from 1 - 11. Most folks vaporize dry around in the temp 6 range.

I would say using as high a heat as you can without combusting your product will help you transition. You are used to the smoke when you get high. If you use a higher heat it will will remind you of smoking. Your body and brain are used to the smoking high. Read up on FC about transitioning from smoking to vaporizing. After two weeks of strictly vaporizing smoking won't interest you any longer.

When I transitioned from smoking a while back I used the Pinnacle Pro vaporizer which is really hot and harsh but it reminded me of smoking and it helped me to transition. The Pinnacle Pro turned out to be not that great of a vaporizer due to poor materials.

The E-nano will serve you well. Read up about 20 or 25 pages to get you up to speed.

You were smart to get a top-tier vaporizer as your first. I like to say "buy right, buy once". You can waste a lot of money on inexpensive products that don't function well, which will cost you more money in the long run. Not to mention the frustration and time wasted.

As for smoking vs vaping, the E-Nano was a great choice. It's what I used to fuck combustion a year ago. I suggest higher temps to start, 6.5 is a good starting temp for a combuster in my opinion.

As many other posters have mentioned, vaping is a different experience than smoking. It's best to stop smoking completely if possible for 1-2 weeks as you transition into vaping. At first it can seem weaker but it's pretty unanimous that once you're used to it it's way stronger. Science supports this, as when you combust you are burning up a large amount of the active particles before they ever have a chance to effect you.

By adjusting your vaporizer's temperature you are able to change the effects. Lower temp for a clean head-focused effect that can get psychedelic with higher doses. Higher temps provide more of a body effect with sedation and pain relief.

On top of that, each vaporizer provides slightly different effects, often known as a "vape signature". Just another reason to have multiple vapes in your arsenal, almost like different strains.

My Sticky Brick is great for pain, my OmniVap is awesome for insomnia, and my E-Nano and Grasshopper give a nice clean, focused effect. Each vape can be further tweaked effects-wise by changing the temperature.

Thanks! I'll try doing as much vaping as possible. I figure with the amount of smoking that I do, it's just going to be better for my wallet/health in the long run.

I was actually looking at the Supreme and thought it looked great and very close to combustion as well. Can I use any type of butane lighter for that? The ones in the videos seemed small compared to the large one I have for concentrate dabbing.

Thanks so much Carol! I've already read through 50+ pages of the Nano thread and there's tons of great info in there. You're active there too, so it's great to see you drop into my thread!

I'll try to just stick with only vaping then, I guess I should have grabbed a mighty at the same time so I could walk around the house with it when I want. I figured I'd be around the 7-7.5 range on the Nano at least in the beginning (from what I've read). I think you even posted a while back that is around the range you get without combustion, so I thought I'd try something around there. The experimentation sounds fun!

Seems like everyone's alluring to the same thing. I'll give it my best to only vape. I'm glad you say that it's unanimous that most people say the high is stronger once you're acclimated to it. I've read the opposite a lot (especially for the transition) and it was getting me a bit worried about the switch (as I dose mostly recreationally).

The tinkering sounds like a lot of fun to me, for sure. I just know I don't want to go overboard either. When I first got into e-cigs my desk/room looked like a crack den. I just want a clean/simple setup that doesn't take too much space and fits my needs. The nano + mighty in a drawer seemed like a perfect match up for that (and now the Milaana is becoming a contender).

Looking forward to it!

Thanks to everyone for the awesome replies :)

If the supreme is anything like the Vapcap then you'll want a torch lighter to heat it up quickly. Some bigger torches may need a bit more caution with use, but should just get you to temp quicker. I use a small triple jet torch with mine, gets me to temp in about 3-8 seconds depending on ambient temperature.

You're headed in the right direction and yeah vaping gets me higher and with less herb than I ever did in a pipe. Of course edibles have brought me higher :D but that's with some pretty ridiculous dosing :) experimenting with vapes and learning what techniques work for you may take a bit of time, but I've certainly enjoyed most of it. When I've occassionally dropped something that can break has been about the only time I haven't enjoyed it.

I like the way you went about this and a log is a great choice for first vape if you don't need a portable. I have an underdog, e-nano and tasty top and they are all great logs and all beautiful. Hope you enjoy your nano.

Currently enjoying the Milaana and some GSC, what a combo. I do love the Milaana, great for on command convection although I too have a supreme on the way I like lung busting rips so it had to be done, I had to cave in an order . There many choices in the vaping world the e nano (only from what I've read) is a wise choice I'm waiting to hear back about getting a log vape myslef off homegrown logs being in the uk I prefer to support the locals .

I own a vapcap omni which is nice to have in rotation, what ever you choose you'll end up getting more than one vape, start with the nano I'd say and get collecting and rotating :brow:.

The Supreme will ruin you for other vapes. Even the Milaana isn't getting any use at home, just for walks. Obviously your mileage may vary, but check out the Supreme thread and see how many other owners agree. ;)

EDIT: Ok, got a little enthused there and might have stretched the facts a little. My 14/18 died a few days ago after a shattering encounter with gravity...sigh, my favorite mouthpiece too. So I rigged up a 14/18 of my own (shorty stem,"just fit inside" size tubing, and a DDave 14 whip adaptor) today and I'm back in business. Millie has her own charms...And yeah El Supremo's little pucks of ABV are great for one more go at 430 in my bag vape. So there are 3 I can't live without and add the EQ for parties and the Fireflys for the timid novice...And my SS GH will arrive sometime in the next hour and 15 minutes: unless Hopper Labs lied to me again...
