A Question of Stinkiness (EQ vs HA)

Hello everyone! I am a long-time lurker, and just made my account today. I look forward to being part of this community.

I have been through college already (I'm 25), and got a nice, shiny BSc, but have found that I don't want to work in the field that I studied. As such, I will be going back to school this fall for something else.

The problem is that I will be living in a dorm for the first year, as I don't have a vehicle, and am unfamiliar with the city I'm going to school in.

I have a medical licence, so legality isn't an issue for me, however, using marijuana on campus does violate the housing agreement that I signed. As such, I can still get kicked out of the dorm for using my medical marijuana, even though I have a prescription.

I really need marijuana at night time, due to PTSD. I have very rough nights without being medicated.

TL;DR

I need a vape that can keep the smell to a minimum, to avoid any awkward situations with my school. I am considering between the Arizer Extreme Q and the HerbalAire to replace my SSV that is dying. I would pick up the HerbalAire in a heartbeat, but I am a tad worried about its smell, as there aren't many reviews out there that mention it. The Extreme Q is definitely okay smell-wise, but it's not as easy to store away as the HA. The HA does, however, have the benefit of avoiding the whole grinding process, which produces a hell of a lot of smell!

Looking for an opinion from anyone who has used both: which would be best for a dorm room?

Thanks so much, guys, I appreciate it.

I never really smell any device while using but of all my vapes I have had people smell the HA while turned on.
For less smell, more convection the better. Herbalaire cooks away a little like an oven not horribly... But ever decarbed weed and smelt the kitchen?
I can't say for sure it smells bad but it's the only vape I've had people notice.

That is definitely one of the concerns I've heard about it as well. Good to hear it from another owner. It's definitely an appealing vape, but I may be better off with the EQ for this next year.

Thanks mate!

Get a Vapcap and a Dynastash.

It is a tiny vape that is a fraction of the cost of many of the other higher cost vaporizer that it rivals. It is efficient, produces very little smell and when in the Dube Tube it comes with or the Dynastash dugout, there is no smell at all.

The Vapcap does not require ground flowers. I just tear a tiny bit off, pop it in the bowl and heat.

The vapcap models range from $35 for the original glass model - the OG Vapcap, to the titanium model for $150.

The OG Vapcap is on sale this week for $25 in celebration of its 1 year anniversary.

Check out the Dynavap thread.

This is a well made, beautifully engineered vaporizer.

Smell is a tough one to judge, because those who are using the device aren't necessarily able to be aware of its smell.

Any vape is going to produce some potent stank. Anyone who knows what to identify, is going to do so instantly.
I found my EQ was not too overwhelming, and living in a house with a landlord who (also lived there) and asked for smoking to be done outside, he didn't ever bring up the fact that I was vaping copious amounts inside.
I think, with a bit of space (a closed door helps) and a bit of airflow, it's not really too big an issue.

However I'm finding my current set up of a Grasshopper and a Smoke Buddy to be extremely stealthy.
The EQ, being a desktop that sits hot for extended periods, has a residual smell to it. Where as the GH basically is undetectable unless it is right under the nose, and even then it's hard to smell.

It does a better job than the EQ too, but it all depends on what you want. Which sounds, ideally, like a well sealed convection unit and a Smoke Buddy to filter the exhales.

Is there a reason you have narrowed it down to those 2, are you looking for balloons? If you're just going to use the whip and concerned about smell I would suggest a log or another 7th floor model if you really want a whip. Neither of them smell when you aren't hitting them. With a log you can hide the stems in sealed tubes when you aren't using them. With a SSV or DBV you use wax melts while vaping.

If you are really sold on either the EQ or HA I would probably pick the EQ. You can always elbow pack it and pull the whip out, the HA drops a crucible into it so it always has some heat and will smell a little more. Honestly though the exhaled vapor is going to be your biggest problem with just about any vape.

Damn, the grasshopper looks like a quality piece! I wish it wasn't on backorder, since I'd possibly be over a month unmedicated. I'd be in rough shape after a month of very little sleep.

I've limited to the EQ and the HA partially because I do really enjoy bags, but mostly for the following reasons:

EQ:
-Nice tight seals
-Not much conduction
-Glass parts, easy to clean with iso (less smell)
-Higher air/vape ratio (less smell)

HA:
-No need to grind (danks up the room!)
-Very durable (shove it in a drawer)
-Most people rave about the HA

I'm actually quite considering the E-nano at this point. Looks like it may be the perfect compromise between power and stealth. Can anyone comment on the smell of the E-nano?

I'm also looking for something in the <$200 category, because I'd rather not spend a hell of a lot of money right now.

I also found that my SSV seemed to encourage me to take huge tokes of vapour, and I want to keep that air/vape ratio a bit higher for smell and stealth reasons.

The dorm seems pretty easy to control smell in. It has a window that can open, and it is an apartment-style dorm (two rooms, one kitchen) so I have two doors before the hall.

I will towel the door, fan the window, and blow the vapour through a carbon sploof through the open window. With a can of Ozium to control breakouts, this should probably be okay, yea?

I will definitely grind outside for a weeks supply (as much as I despise pre-grinding, I can't get out every night to grind) and that should control most of the fresh herb smell.

It sucks that I can get kicked out of this place even though I'm only using my prescription for conditions that can't seem to be treated with anything else. Marijuana is seeming like an inconvenient medicine this year, I can tell you guys that!

Thanks for the input, everyone. I appreciate it. I'm going to keep my eye out for a grasshopper in the meantime here.
