Herb Grinders

just_the_flu

they say im crazy but i have a good time
...so i got a SLX about a week ago..
so far it's pretty decent... one thing that irritates me tho....
...the collection dish is WAY to shallow!!
with or with out the kife catcher screen in.

...i got the 2.4 and for the size of the grinder,
it does not hold a lot of ground materials...

what would be the perfect grinder IMO...
... a 3 piece SCS with the SLX coating...

i hope they release a new version of the SLX
with a deeper collection dish...

Since I decant my bud into a bowl I am not overly concerned but it would be a pain if I used my grinder to store ground bud. I would love to see a 3 piece SLX with a concave inner chamber like the 3 piece SCS.

Yes- several sizes. Nano to MegaLeaf. The 2 pc. Classic is my favorite. Still my favorite all time brand by a mile. Best grip (both sections, not just one) and best anodizing I've found. Hard to beat that flat, matte finish for long term looks. Mine still look like new after 7-8 years. Love the offset teeth too, as well as the 'no o-ring' design. Then there's the multiple, removable screen options on the screen models. A real quirky brand and I have yet to find another I like as much. Too bad the guy didn't have his business model up to the standard of his products.

It really is a shame. He had quality products, and could have gone a long way.

Are these still available? You're promo has me interested, but after a brief online search they seem to be discontinued and out of stock.
TIA

The Mix N Ball grinders have not been available for years. It's a shame too because they are really nice grinders. I have a 4 piece and a nano.

My issue with the SLX I got is that it seems to be sticking LOL! It's definitely not as smooth as the day I got it. And some bud definitely sticks in the top chamber. I'm thinking of emailing them and asking what's up.

Funny enough after a couple of weeks mine got a bit sticky/notchy if that makes sense & I was concerned. Not sure what happened but it only lasted a day or two & has been super smooth since. I would suggest a thorough cleaning with Iso & a toothbrush & see how you go. My cannabis is stored with Boveda 62% packs & grinds like butter these days.

I thought we didn't have to clean it lol? :-)

Well they really don't need any more than a brushing unless you want it spotless. I last gave this a clean in January or February & it has had 1-2g put through it per day since.

FWIW anything shiny & silver is a reflection off the coating & the speckles are either the coating or kief & there are a few scratches like the one on the right edge of the 3rd image if yo look closely. These were the dirtiest images I could get as most of the grinder is spotless. My OCD wants me to clean the grinder but the rebel in me wants to see how long I can go without proper cleaning.

Just received my Gr8tr today after ordering based on positive feedback I've read in this thread. Thanks to all for the great info.

Quick question...this is my first real grinder, with the Medtainer being my only one since I started vaping. Do you guys usually sterilize these things before using? ISO soak? Boiling water? Ultrasonic?

Thanks!

I just do a quick ISO soak and rinse, then leave to dry @waxdab23

Also I'm up here in Canada but it's still Raider Nation for life!! Spent a lot of my youth in the Bay Area

Thanks for the tip.

And hell ya! Can't wait for the season to start. This one could really be the best in a long time.

Back to grinders...can't wait to put my gr8tr to work! It looks and feels great.

I've started to have problems with my gr8tr. It's gotten very difficult to screw in the top section. It's clean so that's not the problem.

Note: "if cleaning a grinder with a clear acrylic body or acrylic clear top lid, do not use Rubbing alcohol, boil in water or freeze the acrylic jar parts as it may create cracks in the acrylic.
For acrylic parts, either use soap and warm water or other acrylic friendly cleaner."

EDITED because of new information.
Just received this note from Kannastor:

"While ISO is very good at removing residue, it can also be harmful to
fragile components of the GR8TR. For a mild cleaning, soap and warm water
will do fine. If you're looking for a deeper clean, a powdered 420 cleaner
is a safe bet as well. Liquid 420 cleaners are basically just ISO with an
abrasive agent, so be careful to get something non-alcohol based!

Let me know if you have any further questions!"

Hey I got a Space Case a few weeks ago from Amazon. The quality is great, but I'm a little skeptical about Amazon when it come's to authenticity. The font on my grinder is white, and I've never seen that in product images before. Is this normal?

I've never seen a space case with the letters painted in. Afaik, they only engrave the name and made in USA tag.

Looks legit, but it's a pic...hard to tell, but their website illustrates similar looking ones.

On another note, my Kannastor is still performing flawlessly....I do use 99% ISO and haven't had any issues, although it's starting to get scratched up pretty good from just normal use. It's by far the best grinder i've ever used, the setup of the top is just perfect for me....never have any tendonitis issues and it is very easy to keep clean (I use one of those little mini iso wipes). With buds that are sticky, I find I have to clean it often or otherwise dry out my material as the teeth get coated and then lose effectiveness, and material sometimes won't drop through.

The only thing I really wish Kannastor made was another plate with larger holes. I have the solid body with 2 plates....I find the fine plate way too fine, and nearly impossible to fall through the holes so it's never ever used (I believe this is the one that comes with the Vape Gr8tr). The other plate the material falls through no problem, but it's just a touch too fine for my preference. Another plate that is slightly larger would be sick!

Still keeping my eye on the new grinders coming out....still looking for the Kannastor replacement!!

Would a picture of the inside of the grinder help determine if it is genuine?
