Pen Focus Vaporizer

I'm really worried about focus quality (and pretty much any chinese vape out there).
I had titan hebe 2 that I sent to warranty cos it started producing bad taste/smell and and I will hopefully be offered new titan 2 or upgrade to focus vape (analog). was reading about focus and watching some reviews and everything I have seen was great and was thinking of upgrading but now I'm starting to see negative stuff...

When I got my hands on the analog version my first thought was...."Wow! You can tell the quality from just the feel of the device". The functionality didn't disappoint.

When I got my hands on the digital version (and the bubbler) I was happy to see they improved the original version and that it included the improvements I was looking for.

It's been my experience that when a device first comes to market the unit goes through a shakeout of sorts and either fixes the imperfections permanently/quickly or it dies from lack of sales due to reputation. As far as I know the device hit the market in excellent shape based on early reviews and my own early hands-on experience/reviews. So I have some hope in this regard since it hit the ground running.

No manufacturer is perfect and only time will tell if the train has jumped the tracks. In the meantime .... the two I own are working beautifully.

Hi djurodjakovic
I use two differents vape as daily driver, a V-tower and a storm vaporizer.
The focusvape is a good upgrade in many way compared to the storm.
The only problem I find out was the smell, but apparently not all the units are afflicted.

franz, are you still using it with this bad taste/smell?
I don't think the smell is the main problem. it's what's producing it, some off-gasing which can't be good for health. my titan2 was working great for a few months of almost everyday use (180-195C) and then all of a sudden started having bad taste/smell which probably means that the insulation started burning...
check the titan 2 thread. there is a lot of info about that.

I doubt that these chinese units are checked internally by QC in EU. they probably check them while working and outside of unit?

Hey Djurojakovic, the vape now is in the box, ready to be shipped back to the vendor.
I had buy, try and disassembled two famous, ultra cheap, chinese vaporizers.
I found that, the bad smell that distinguishes them, it's originated from a kind of yellow adhesive tape.
This heat-resistant tape, is used to secure the insulation material, (fibers of unknown material) around the heating elements.
A good vaporizer, must have this elements isolated from the air path, and also from the air intake, but... some do, others do not care.
Focusvape surely care, and I'm quite sure, have this elements isolated.
It would be nice, like iFixit do with smartphones, start doing reviews with disassembling, with serious technical analysis of temperatures and materials...

Yea someone definitely needs to pull this vape apart and see what everything is made of and what's in the air path. I've put mine away until I know it's got safe materials. I already have a Mighty, FF2, and an Air so I don't need to risk my health with a chinsee vape

The Pro version is in stock now at puffitup.com :)
Yes and they're offering $40 off with the code FOPRO, so you can get it for $99!!!! (Normally $139.) I just placed my order and I have to say, the customer service at puffitup is every bit as great as people say it is. Thanks Jake!!!!

Wow! $99 is a good price! If I didn't have the bubbler I'd use the money saved to get it.

I had a similar bubbler with my Pinnacle Pro and found that I rarely used it, so I used the savings to order and extra battery and the stainless steel water adapter to use with the Magic Flight Orbiter I plan to purchase when my Grasshopper ships.

BTW, Highness, you were spot on about PuffItUp. Those guys are the BEST!

Wow, wasn't looking for another vape right now with my two GH's probably (hopefully) coming next month, but 14 pages later I just ordered. Got the green Pro with the MonG, waterpipe, and a pair of the FlowerMate dry tanks. Those are the correct ones right?

All that was just $134 at PIU with the sale going on, great price!

Either way, kinda excited to give this a go. Was going to add an Orbiter to the order but they were out of stock, just thinking they might make a nice pair!

Healthy green all,

MT

My situation is almost exactly the same. Should be seeing 2 hoppers next month but couldn't deny the VAS for this puppy. My black Focus Pro is supposed to arrive today!! And I'm also thinking seriously about the Orbiter.

According to Jake at PuffItUp the Dry Material pods listed on the Focus page definitely fit both the Focus and Focus Pro.

I watched you progress thru your VAS as I caught up with the thread, not realizing until about half way that they were so new there isn't much info.

How long did it take to ship, assuming you also bought from PIU, I stuck with the standard USPS shipping and now regretting it a little lol.

I was referring to the Flower mate dry canisters, need to check dimensions.....

I ordered mine from PIU on Wednesday (7/27) around 5:30 pm. It shipped that evening (!!!) and is scheduled to be here today!!!!! Even if you selected standard free USPS, they send it Priority.

PIU is now officially my first stop vendor for all things vape. Cannot recommend them highly enough. If you bought the Flower mate cannisters from PIU, I'm sure they would work out an exchange for the Focus pods.

Love mine !! I even did a little review:

Great video! But at the end the video states that the unit turns off after 3 minutes as a 'con' which is incorrect. Both the analog and digital version use 8 minute cycles.....5 minutes of working/heating/vaping that begins when the temp is selected and 3 minutes of sleep mode where the oven heat ceases but can be reheated instantly without having to turn the unit off and back on. The 8 minute cycle is a big plus when compared to other cigar pens. The battery life as a con .... I could go either way.....compared to my Solo the battery life is below average. Compared to other cigar pens .... it's phenomenal.

Edit: Another plus for this device in comparison to other cigar pens is that every time you 'wake it' from sleep mode the cycle begins again with 5 minutes of working/heating/vaping followed by another 3 minutes of sleep mode. I hated how other cigar pens would just force you restart the device from scratch.

I just received my Focus Pro from PIU (ordered Wednesday). Great service from PIU!

Buyers/potential buyers NOTE: there was no external charger included in the package. There is a mini-USB cable included. Also when I unscrewed the mouthpiece I found the ceramic "puck", small metal screen and brass holder loose inside the oven. I looked back earlier in this thread (p.6) for info on what order they go in when screwed back into the mouthpiece (thanks @His_Highness).

The vape itself is much larger and heavier than a Pinnacle Pro (someone was asking for a comparison earlier).

I am going to contact PIU about the lack of external charger. No big deal for me - my battery is currently charging on my Nitecore D4.

Otherwise the packaging, device, and manual all seem to be pretty high quality.

Yeah no wall charger included in the Pro bundle. Mine came with a usb charging cable only as well. I did not find this a bid as pretty much all electronic devices come with the wall cube so I had multiple ones already .

Uh oh. Should not have looked at this thread. Now my VAS wants one of these and a GH at the same time.
Especially now that I'm 4 hours into a full-pack session of Nuken on my Crafty.

It is bigger than the GH, but I bet it still looks fairly similar to ejuice devices so in the instance I were to go somewhere and vape, I could get away with it. And it's available now. And cheaper. Does anyone have a hands-on comparison between Focus and GH?

I also received my Focus Pro today and was also surprised by the lack of an external charger. But if you read the manual, you will see that it is not listed as an included accessory and they even reference that if you choose to use an external charger, it is your responsibility to use a good one.

The issue is that the PuffItUp page for the Pro is using the same pictures as the non-pro version, and that includes the external charger. Not an issue for me because I'm planning to buy a Nitecore D4 anyway.

More importantly, if you plan to buy a spare battery, be aware that the spares are 2,500 mAh and the unit ships with a 3,200 mAh battery. Again, that is clearly stated on the page for the battery, I just didn't read carefully before I ordered. The 2,500 should still work in the Pro, right?

I am about to email Jake at PIU to let him know about these discrepancies so they can change their page.

Haven't gotten to use the Pro yet but the look and feel are great. It is a bit larger/heavier than the Pinnacle, yes, but the tradeoff is worth it for the replaceable battery, the glass mouthpiece, and the selectable temps.

Can't wait to fire it up.

Can't speak for others, but I'll be watching for that first report!

You know you have a problem when..... even though I don't see this bumping the Mighty or Pax2 out of their spots, had to have it at this price point! I'm figuring it to be a great vape to take out and about with beginners.

@Shieldsab I have focus gh ti and gh ss dude seriously get a ti gh and focus imo. Also get a vapcap these things are all awesome. I have a few other good portables but mainly use these 3 now. The heatup on both the vapcap and gh male them perfect for a quick session (around the same time as my friend smokes a standarx cigarette) and the focus is a perfect full length session vape. The focus is alot more comfortable using native than the gh. The vapcap is a perfect allrounder but some will snub the lack of electronic heat control and its reliance on an external heat source to use. The focus battery life is significantly better than the gh. I temp step on both devices and usually get around 2 bowls full with the gh and 3-4 bowls from the focus. All 3 heatup quick, the focus being the slowest (but still around 20 seconds to full temp is impressive in my book). The vapcap is 2nd with a torch lighter around 6 seconds(ish). The gh is like 5 seconds. The focus definitely gives.off more of a smell than the other 2 so if stealth is your thing I'd probably go with the gh. honestly the focus is still up there with the best and so is the vapcap... sorry for the rambling :)

Thanks for the good info. A Vapcap has been ordered. Unfortunately I didn't see it on PIU in time, so it sounds like it'll be a month before I get it. I think I'll get a Focus at the end of the month, and a GH when shipping is a bit more caught up. Fortunately I don't have anyone to nag me about finances, but I still have to answer to myself. :p
