The 2016 Presidential Candidates Thread

I'm normally with you but I disagree on this one Grok. If any group has shown tendencies to violently protest recently its the anti-Trump people and Black Lives Matter. Yes the Tea Party did vigorously protest the ACA, however with 16 out of 23 exchanges failed/bankrupt and Humana opting out because they lost a billion dollars last year, maybe, just maybe, someone had a point.
We're going to have to agree to disagree on this one. Damn near all of the violence at the primaries was committed or instigated by drumpf supporters. Including violence against peaceful blm protesters.

Thanks for the great link. That picture of the Drumpfmeister with the pot leaf on his hat is going in my pix folder lol. I didn't really pay any attention to the guy before this election season, but it seems to me that he doesn't really give a fuck about what people get up to on a personal level. He seems very focused on security, economy, efficiency etc. All of this hyperbole about him being hitler reincarnated x1,000 seems way overblown imo. We'll see how it shakes out I guess.

if we can speak candidly here for a moment, I just wanna know, do you think that the corrupt capitalism model we now have (aka fascism) just needs to be regulated, or do you feel that total state control of markets is necessary for long term prosperity?

I found this page to be really interesting when it comes to fascism. Read the comment for a lively discussion.
https://systemicdisorder.wordpress.com/2015/01/01/what-is-fascism/
I do not think the US has reached a state of fascism. The fact that we can discuss this without arrest means we are not there yet.

I do not understand your regulation question. If you are asking if I believe that the state needs to regulate then my answer is yes we need regulations.

I do not trust Trump with a crusade for legal cannabis. He doesn't follow through with most of the things he's been saying. He continually changes his mind over things. Chris Christies that piece of *+^# will be whispering on one side and Pence will be whispering on the other side. He wavers a lot on things. I've read articles that don't trust that Trump will further the cause of cannabis at all. That's a fairy tail.

Edit I heard that @His_Highness i better get busy and start warming up for that. I wonder if I should sing "You've Got A Friend" or maybe "I Feel The Earth Move"? I feel my heart start to tremble whenever your around. Of course referring to Hillary.;)

I copied this off the Weedblog from a little while ago. Try to legalize in your own state. Be careful about the taxes that will be added. Too high of a tax will scuttle the whole thing. Who can afford $15-20 a gram.

Overall, we can expect marijuana laws established by the states to remain in tact regardless of the outcome of the election. However, expansion of fight for legalization is really going to come down to each state ballot with initiatives for medical or full recreational access. As with the legalization of gay marriage, we see that if more and more states come into the fold, the fight for federal legalization will gain unstoppable momentum.

Edit
At the DNC
Go Tammie Duckworth. Loved her attack statement towards Trump and Russia. She had a nice story too about her mom and dad walking everywhere.
I better get ready.;)

What about the leaders right before Putin? They had unity more in mind with the rest of the world. Putin is more concerned with acting like a tough guy than being a good leader. Similar to someone else we know.

Boris Yeltsin? He was so corrupt he makes Putin look like a white knight. I am not at all pro Putin, but the current political climate is just as much to blame on the failures of Yeltsin as it is on Putin's policies. Yeltsin's failures are what allows Putin to glorify the Soviet Union, and point to how westernization failed Russia.

I do not support Russia's involvement in Ukraine, but the fact is, there is an ethnic Russian minority in Ukraine, and Ukraine shares a border with Russia. The United States has no such connections to Iraq or Syria, but we make it our business to intervene there. To point the finger at Russia while supporting hawkish candidates like Clinton just comes off as hypocritical to me.

This country needs to take a long hard look in the mirror.

A Trump administration would be the end of the marijuana legalization movement. Personally, I have no doubt of this. ...

A Trump Presidency needs to be properly understood.

The danger is not that Trump will lead America wrong.

The danger is that Trump only wins if the Republicans retain control of the House and Senate.
The danger is that Trump is actually too feckless to stop the Republican agenda, both corporate and Christian; he will be a malleable rubber stamp. Stroke his ego and he is yours.

The first 100 days of a Republican controlled Trump administration will be a tea-hadist roll back of the twentieth century.

Google is your friend. I did not read any of the links brought up by these search words,
"republican plans to return to gilded age"
Perhaps here you will find refutation (I am sure), but likely not negation of the premise.
I do notice the second hit dates from one month back and talks of House Speaker Ryan's " Deregulated Dystopia ... In truth Ryan's plan would result in an economic dystopia – a society ..."

Added Edit below
BTW, I have no choice but to resist evil, even if it is with the tool of other evil (or more truthfully- the lesser). Perhaps I can't get the greatest good, along with my "I am so good" ego-ic boost. Tantrums due to not being given "proper choices" deserve derision.

In Catholic terms a Hillary vote is a venial sin. In Catholic terms a Trump vote is a mortal sin.
For non-Catholic Christians, the analogy is choosing Jesus' message of inclusion over the false-theological message of exclusion.
For the scientist, one is an uncontrolled experiment with previously never seen variables.

In a Nov. 10 GOP debate, Trump said: “I got to know him (Putin) very well because we were both on ‘60 Minutes,’ we were stablemates, and we did very well that night.”

“I never met Putin. I don’t know who Putin is,” the Republican presidential nominee said Wednesday at a Florida news conference.

The fuckin' guy is delusional.

That is not fair to delusional people to lump them in with the sociopath. :)

Andrew Cuomo just called Donald Trump delusional. I think you are on the right track @lwien. He's delusional, a sociopath as well as some other things along with an anger problem. Not good qualities if you are the president of America.

I will have to put a sign in my yard and donate to the cause to vote for the other candidate. :D If my husband wants he can put his own sign up on the other side of the front yard. He won't go to the trouble. He doesn't really like Trump, he didn't like anybody who ran except for Kasich.

Edit
Our unemployment rate is under 6%. I know there are areas where the economy hasn't bounced back as well. The states that have coal as employment and steel companies, it's been hard for them.

Some industries aren't coming back. Coal is being phased out because it's not clean energy. Those people will need to find other jobs.

That happens with other industry too. We went through that with logging in my state. People need to be able to adapt. Most people don't have one single job their whole lives anymore.

Edit again
Wow Rev William Barber what a wonderful speaker. Great speech!!

I love Kareem, what a sweet man, not a big speech. I've heard him give really inspirational speeches before. Maybe he was a Bernie guy?

How about the Muslim dad that had a son that died saving his fellow soldiers - I'm crying. He asked if Trump knew the U.S Constitution. Then he pulled the constitution out of his pocket. Asking if Donald Trump needed his copy.

Now whose the more patriotic party.

unbearably light in the being....
Bernie's younger supporters, and there's quite a few of them, seem to be leaning green.
Nader all over again but even worse this time :worms:

The peanut gallery has a point, bernie looks pretty deflated :\
at the risk of being inflammatory, they are new to this, for all that they're tired of 'the brokenness of the American system'. This is my FIFTEENTH presidential cycle (that I've paid attention to, starting in '60), and you ALWAYS look for someone to vote FOR - but pressing your own most crucial issues is not the only thing in play, there's the very real need to prevent The Other Party from rolling back the entire 20th century (4 example) and returning us to the Articles of Confederation. Yes, it's outrageous, yes, it's insufferable, yes, it blows gaskets: it's still necessary to hold the door against the slavers, the pillagers, the Reavers. Be outraged later: for now, HOLD THE EFFING DOOR.

And yes, its tiring that the press of events doesn't let up, and the need builds to do something meaningful, to strike a blow, to make a mark; it's frustrating to realize YET AGAIN that we have still failed to do anything to counteract bullying or to keep bullies from dominating crucial aspects of our culture; it becomes IMPORTANT to chain one's self to something, betimes, and say "NO MORE"!

But that's an artifact of another day: it is no longer enough for us to lay our bodies upon the machine, to make it stop: the machine will not stop as long as some profit by grinding up the others. This is a long war, there are no quick rewards, no easy victories, and no short cuts from here to a better world. Evil must be clearly seen, truly named, and meaningfully opposed. MEANINGFULLY opposed. Tantrums and trolling don't count.

Me? I'm a Bernie-or-buster, age 65: does that mean I'm going to leave a chink in the wall that lets Tramp and his brown-shirted minions thru? Not a fuckin' chance. I recommend EVERYONE DO LIKEWISE.

"O'Reilly goes full unabashed racist over the first ladies mention of slavery building the White House.
To be fair he has shown his racism many times before.
O’Reilly, who forgot that the Irish used to be considered a “different race,” one worth suppressing, oppressing, and depressing on the basis of nothing other than their red hair and funny way of talking, thinks that all slaves should be happy.
Why?
Because he likes dressing up as a slave for his dominatrix.
It’s fun for him to be a slave.
What is all the complaining about?
Didn’t they get good food before being f==ked in the a$$?
Didn’t they get a nice place to be raped at night?
Do you know how much a cat-o-nine-tails costs?
How’s a good master supposed to pay wages when he’s got overhead like that?
And remember, Bill imagines they also have to buy leather garb to match their favorite whips.
And when leather isn’t working, do you know the cost of a full latex body glove?
A trapeze?
Please, those slaves didn’t know how good they had it. (If only they had some loofah they would have quit bitching, but we won’t mention that right now)."

yeah, those plantations don't build and run themselves, after all!
BTW you've hit against the fundamental "argument" against minimum-wage increases: 'we shouldn't have to pay servants AT ALL, and you want a living wage?'

How's the Don man gonna deal with his "I wanna hit you so hard" child-like angst when Hil Dogg pokes him a few times during the debates? Shall be popcorn, cold beer and a few hopper loads (and lately my trusty solo) worthy...:cheers:

Back in 2008 my 85 year old mom, my brother and I went to our caucus together, we lived in the same voting precinct. It was 2 miles down the road at the local school. My brother and I voted for Obama and my mom voted for Hillary Clinton.

No matter how much we tried to subtly convince her to our side. She stuck to her guns. You try to convince others to your side at a caucus. Eventually our group voted for Obama. Mom wanted to live to see the first woman president she told me later.

Mom died 2 years ago last spring, she lived to be 91. I knew she couldn't hear me, or maybe she can? I'm an agnostic. i was talking to her and said, "your girl Hillary did it Mom." She never missed voting in an election. She always said that the democrats were the party for the working people because that's what my family was. My grandma always said the same thing. A life long democrat. Hillary said that tonight too. I thought of Mom and Grandma.

This will be our first presidential election without our loyal democratic mother. We would spend hours talking politics before a presidential election. Her thoughts were always with the children or the needy because that's the kind of person mom was. She was sharp as a tack until the last few months.

So we will have our first woman president, I hope.
