Thanks fc'ers, I think I will puchase the direct draw mouthpiece and see how that goes, if there is rumors of a new evo then I will wait....

My eq is very well sorted, I don't get hot spots and can extract a 0.5 load in one even hit....

I didn't want to starts a thread and get all the opinions of a load of EVO fans, that I've probably never spoken to...
Where as on the eq thread, I've been speaking to you lot for nearly a year now....

I value your opinions more, which is why I posted here...

I'll hold off on the desktop till something better comes along I think, the EVO seems to be plauged with problems too...

My EQ was fantastic but it got passed down to a friend once I had the Evo. It's still going strong and his daily driver. That might tell you something though, I gave it away. My evo has been on daily for several months and I haven't noticed it to be any more fragile than the EQ IMO, and I definitely wouldn't say it's plagued with problems, would they really be able to get $350 a pop from very educated FC members if they were junk?
Both the EQ and Evo are quality vapes and once you mod out the EQ it is a great vape in it's own right. But common. That's kinda like when my girlfriend told me that her Camry was "Pretty much" like my Lexus GS. I said really? Then I let her drive it and she doesn't say that anymore! LOL

Lo and Behold! The transformative power of Vapor.
Hands down Evo kills the Eq. It will get your where you want to be quic ker. Huge lung busting hits with ease. I loved my Eq with the ddave mods and I still stand by it and would reccomend it to anybody, it has a great price point and many features but once you try a Evo it is hard to put down . I find it easy to clean and maintaine and have 0 problems with the elbow screens. I keep a rotation of a few and soak in alcohol after every 10 uses or so . Through water it works wonders and also without but it has given me a new appreciation for glass .
All Solid points. The Evo is designed around doing it's thing extremely well for over $100 more. The EQ is a hybrid that will trade of that refined performance for versatility. Both do well in their respective camps.

In my case, I am missing the working fan on my EQ. So I can attest to that. I don't rate one vape as being entirely better than the other. I'm sure both are worth their weight on their own merits. Now to see what fan options I have for my overworked DD. And reread some thread posts.
Why not remove the whip altogether @kellya86 & try a glass mouthpiece like the Evo? That would change things up a bit.
That is part of the versatility I'm talking about. Make a neo-EVO out of your EQ. :D I bought some SSV wands (that were not the 18mm old school "ddave' btw) type and used it on my EQ neo-SSV style. Those SSV wands seem to absorb heat well BTW.

Maybe combine it with a FC-UFO for a all bases covered for under $80 solution .
Solid choice. Any slit perc like that or a matrix parc that helps with the draw resistance is a plus.
Liked my duel matrix Hny (before I broke it)

I think that it sprays a mist of water into the vapor as it is being pulled. Is that a good/bad/different thing to consider?
Fair call bro & have seen plenty of "How does the ABC 123 compare against the Evo?" threads get swamped with best case highly forceful opinions. I have always said the EQ needs comparison to it's peers like the DBV or HA & against like priced competition it stands it's ground at absolute worst.
Precisely, :nod:Yes compare it to ones in it's own tier.

Would a log be a waste????
I don't want to go to comparisonville either. So I will make a full 180 when it comes to 'A VS B' argument. Frankly these two also do well in their respective camps. I like having both and a claisen adapter. My UD offsets my EQ nicely. The EQ has a digital display, a fan and extras. The UD is a smaller manual heater that warms up a presumably narrow SS stem or wand. No frills to get in the way. Both can be geeked out for performance. The UD, with some effort and preheating will give great performance but alternatively has clog issues for me and would seem particular and less friendly to a new user. :2c:

Smaller parts to work with less of a footprint on my desk. Looks nice on my desk too. Where the EQ is table enough to put a full pound of glass on top of it. See what I mean? They actually contrast each other very well. I hope to use my UD with less effort as my EQ at some point. Read their thread if you are considering a #2 vape or you want to try to stretch your materials even further. The modded EQ is more consistent and easier to control the results. Plus a wider throat. Less restriction. Plus I have a real easy setup going with it now. Even without the fan as a boost.:D Since you already have an EQ, you have a DD to fall back on if the UD becomes frustrating. :bang:

My full vape requirements are 2 desktops 3 portables and 1 butane/off the grid. The desktops are to save the battery life of the portables at the very least.

In buying vape in general, I would think through the type of session/s you are seeking first. Price point - if any. Then the contrast/comparisons pro/cons arguments:sherlock:.

There are different vepes like there are different types of coffee makers and grinders. Some like pods, others like a basic brewer, others will labor with a french press. A person looking for a good brewer to replace the one that died at the office isn't likely going to compare it to a french press. How I feel about most of the 'highly forceful opinions' and 'A vs B' comparisons. Frankly, I'm glad that there is so many vapes to choose from that their are price tiers and subcategories of portables and desktops to choose from to narrow it down to personal preference and price point. Plus that some companies have been making the same units for years and can refine on the same model. :peace:

From what I understand the Evo is a considerably better vape but it is also twice the price. We are not meant to compare vapes in manufacturers threads but if you look at the number of one time EQ owners who purchased an Evo that should be rather telling.

The EQ is a great vape & will certainly get you where you want to go but it is unfair to compare the two. You could try adding one of OGB's 18mm mouthpieces for under $30 & try that before commuting to spending 10 x that amount on a Evo.

Hey dude, so this glass mouthpiece would fit directly into the 18mm short adapter? Would the Ddave or arizer basket screens fit into the bottom of the mouthpiece just like the wand??

If I were you & I am not but if I was I'd buy a nice HGL & VapCap to compliment the EQ.......
Hey guys sorry for the newb question but what's a homegrown log and vapecap :hmm: sorry but I'm really curious as to make my EQ even better ;)

@Andrew26 they are two different kind of vapes.

Using them to make the EQ better could be done with a claisen adapter (basically using multiple vapes at once with a glass adapter).

I also think the glass mouthpiece should be able to house the screen. If not, a male-female 18mm adapter could solve any issue.
It's quite nice using the EQ with a direct glass pathway, especially when comparing to used silicone!

@mrbonsai420 was your eq modded????

I have spent almost a year, and a fair bit of cash, on upgrading and fine tuning my eq.....

To the point now where I can get a huge single extraction, with no hot spot....

I have had my eq apart and back again at least 50 times to get the heater position perfect....

I've purchase many @DDave bits too, being hand made, all the adapters are slightly different, and I find perform slightly different....

I've got 2 that I really like, one is stashed away for safe keeping.....

This all adds to the fine tuning....

My wands stream thick vapour from the off, at pretty low temp's, If I choose....

I'm just struggling to see where the performance gains are to be had....
So can't justify a new desktop....

Maybe if I meet an EVO one day, I may be swayed, but for now, I'm decided, sticking with the eq for another year.... at least....

@CuckFumbustion I really like my ssv wand, I do find it performs very well, and I like filling the bit between the screens, and the basket, for some heavy hits....

A change of material may mix thing's up for me a bit, been vaping the same strain for a year now.... luckily it's the sort of strain you can vape every day for a year..... but I'm looking forward to the upcoming change, maybe it wasn't a new vape I wanted....

Not quite sure what you mean? :hmm: Would like to know what you came up with.

I'm playing with these two ATM. (thanks @bellas) Holding them on either the adapter or directly on the heater cover. Turning it like how I imagine an SSV user might go with it kinda sorta. The one with the flange I had beginners luck and clouded very heavy very quickly and it wouldn't quit filling. There was no dead spots or hot spots. A very even consistent mocha ABV with little breakage. Does that make the EQ a neo-SSV?

Since the screen is further from the heater cover and the glass heats up differently, plus the wide I.D, It fills differently. Not in a bad way but in a flavor profile way. :p
The mouthpiece end can fit a basket screen, if you know how to reform the screens like I mentioned in several posts before.

If you get a 18mm male joint it will mate with the 18mm F/F adapter. It should take a EQ basket screen but no guarantees. If you are thinking about getting a MP I would speak with OGB about the joint but he can make pretty much whatever you need.

Herb gardener...
@CuckFumbustion I just mean loading the chamber that exists between the top of the inserted basket screen, and the small screen inside the ssv wand...

I then load the basket too, and sometime's a bit in the 18 shorty too....

This is the heaviest hit iv ever taken from a vaporiser, I don't do it often...

Even if an EVO could produce more, or better vapour than this, I wouldn't be able to do anything with it....

I'm on my limit of what I can consume....
My lungs won't take any more, and if the effects were any more, I'd be incapable...

I still love my eq, sorry I ever doubted....

@Andrew26 I find with a bit of squishing or manipulation you can make screens fit a similar sized void....

Lo and Behold! The transformative power of Vapor.
@kellya86 I have the two SSV's above. Not the 18mm most people in the EQ thread mention, to clarify. If I haven't already. Or maybe I'm not understanding you?

I did figure out how to put a basket screen in the flange ended SSV. So I loose pack it between the SSV's screen and the EQ. Like an upside down cyclone pack. Then set the SSV on the EQ's heater cover and begin to rip.

I've elbow packed the SSV's inside screen and gotten amazing vapor. The glass does conduct heat well. My trick is to hold it in place until the SSV logo feels warm/hot to the touch.

I'm guessing the OGB glass That was mentioned earlier is of this quality or caliber and can imagine it being a good whip candidate for less then the SSV at $40.00.
And you could probably use the same finger sensitive heat test to see when it is GTG.
I have had my eq apart and back again at least 50 times to get the heater position perfect....
Was this to get it correct or to get it to some sort of ideal? Was the clothlike insulation part of the reason/problem?

Or was there some sort of ideal you was trying to work out. Like some sort of alignment? Sure that you got to know some details and got proficient at it. Did you try any different covers? BTW

I found that with minor adjustments to the heater position (height relative to ceramic heater), and how far the mesh produces the glass cover, can make a huge difference to performance....

I had to fiddle with it for ages to get it right, there was no quick way, it was trial and error, strip and rebuild over and over until iv got it perfect....

I have a second, brand new eq, as it came out of the factory. It does not perform as well as my (tuned) eq....

I will get round to stripping and rebuilding that one, now I have a gauge, I'll set that one the same and see if it compiles...

I also do find the insulation cloth can cause problems, specially with an aftermarket cover...

It's certainly important to insure your heater ends up central and pointing exactly vertical...

Haven't tried any other covers, I'm waiting to see how @ataxian got on, he was butchering his eq last time I heard....

I may just remove the cover and forget about it!
The Base is too large?
I'm cleaning all my GLASS and re-designing my vaporizers.
Not trying to reinvent the wheel.
Just customizing to fit my needs!

The "Q" works very well.
Modifying is all!

I think the 'Q would be easy enough to fashion into a wooden log vape.
I've always wanted to do this, turning the EQ upside down (despite its massive size) causes plastic fumes. But if you're careful it works amazingly.
If the heating element/air path were properly isolated, it would be the ultimate home vape.

Looks like the Whip & Wormhole will work together but that wormhole does look like a pain to load compared to the DDave 14mm baskets but it also looks like it gives a very good extraction with the concentrated airflow.

Just thought I would share it with the EQ crew as another potential mod option. Also if you did not know Ed has made full EQ wood kits in the past too..........

@Ed's TnT Wow man I just checked out your website and I can't believe I haven't seen this before! Awesome work man!! I'm super interested in the X-tense all glass whip. Are you able to pop in the arizer or ddave dome screens in the bottom of the glass whip? If so I think this glass whip is a muuch better alternative than the one from Oregon glass blower. I live in Canada so I'm assuming all prices are in USD?

I don't own one @Philreal187 but thought it good to share the new glass Ed is getting & showcase what he has previously done for the EQ.

Are talking about the same?

@Stevenski I don't like wood against my lip's.
Maybe 2,000,000 years ago when we were cavemen?

Good morning, glad you had a look and like what you have seen! I am not certain about Daves screens I do offer conical screens for many of the glass that I have. Yes you would be correct in saying they are in USD. I hope I have been helpful and look to hear from you soon.
