Anyone whose messed with the Zion prefer it over the Mi?? I'm debating on getting a Z

My Mi is like the best thing that's ever happened to me

I do use my Milaana more now for simplicity (+on the go), but Zion offers you more control and longer battery life (but it takes a paired set so that's an extra level of consideration), along with a more self contained package thanks to the stem storage, herb stash, and the lid. Though it is also a larger footprint ofcourse, not stealth like Milaana can be in my experience... And finally the heater is larger with a more vortexed airflow, so that along with the power control knob could mean better vapor quality, at least consistently with less focus. Still a manual vape like Milaana, but more automatic at least if that makes sense

I'm pretty sure that Ryan, himself, prefers the vapor from the Zion. There are also a couple posters on the Zion thread that use it as their go-to daily driver over the Mi. Might be worth asking over there, too, since that's where you'll probably find the most FCers who have actually tried the Zion.

Received my in the mail yesterday. Was out town so didn't get a chance to try it till today..

First I order direct from RBT store. I feel with vaporizer it's just easier to buy direct. Might cost little more at times but the piece of mind knowing warranty etc is going be there is well worth it.

Workmanship of my unit is excellent spent 5 mins looking unit over and can't find anything wrong with it. It's well sanded, no burn marks etc.

Only ran a couple of stems, but I can already see why people rave about this little guy. Have a strong feeling I'm going be ordering a Zoin for christmas before the sale ends.

Just wanted pop on and give first my impressions. I'm sure I will have more to add once I get more of a feel for it. But so far wow.

Can you link me to the Zion thread??? I don't see it ANYWHERE

If the room was on fire and I could only save the mi or the Zion, it would have to be the Zion.
The chip and the knob let you find your sweet spot (spots, actually) and really dial in a repeatable technique, no feathering or draw compensation necessary.
The Mi requires more attention to the ever changing power variables, and adjusting to them.
If I was more often in need of a stealth or pocketable solution, I'd probably save the Mi instead, as it is just as heavy of a hitter as the Zion.
The truth of the matter is you want... No, you NEED them both!

I couldn't agree more @murf2010. What changed my mind is when I looked at the $ I dropped on the ff1 and then compared both for price and functionality and it turns into a no brainer. Almost an apples to oranges comparisons because IMO the Zion worked that much better. All around.
I'm sure we haven't made this that much easier on you but it is what it is.

So I'm going to attempt to make a wall adaptor for the Mi.

Essentially a 3.7v 20A power supply that ends in a fake battery instead of a barrel plug. Inspired by the MFLB power adapter.

It should essentially change the MI into a plug-in zion, since you'll be able to control your voltage from the power box and get super consistent results. Then when it's time to go somewhere you can just swap in a real battery.

My FF Lasted one day... Looked sweet.
Humidity has hit Long Island. I forgot how hard it was on my AA last year. I discovered the drying, shredding, reddrying, rereshredding method out of necessity. Even with the Milaana, wet weed is not good.

SOLUTION: I got back to longer heat lamp use, (low watt bulb about 4 to 6 inches from herb in a small glass bowl), and making sure weed is dry. It should grind really easily when dry.

Performance was off on all Milaana's, so it hadda be the product (which is top shelf) prep. This led to a slightly different technique. I used a really slow draw with bottom pressed, barely sense any heat as most heat hovers in stem, then increase draw speed and realease button simultaneously.

Cooler, with nice clouds back as well. Hate humidity for so many reasons, this is one more. Don't fuck with my fucking combustion.

It's like 95 degrees and 95 RH here today!

Not sure I know how to answer that exactly, I have posted photos of the two together here somewhere (all betas though so not exact of course), and heater wise it is taller/longer and uses three pieces of mica vs just one in the Milaana, no idea about how it is arranged but I know it is different and more carefully honed (this was the cause of the initial Zion delay, getting the vapor quality the highest it could be, keeping it consistent unit to unit and over time). The Milaana is simpler, more like early Zion betas but more refined now too.

Haha yeah hot here too, but at least its not humid! I do not miss the East Coast at all :cool:

I dont have the prep patience, just use whatever I have, and Zion/Milaana definitely let you know exactly how good your herb is, it'll get whatever it can out of it, but you'll be able to tell when its lower quality especially by the taste, just so pure and powerful, and yeah stirring/draw/trigger all depend on herb consistency too, but really it all works here either way

Well one day in and already unplugged my cement aromazap going pack it up for storage. Been a staple on my desk since 2012. Sure I will revisit her but found my new heavy hitter.

May need to have a fire sale and use that to pre order the zoin. Really can't add much that hasn't already been said. It is that good :)

I seen that and it made me chuckle. A little. I did feel bad that you made the initial purchase but it sure makes for good stories.

I don't want to break rules but yeah...the ff2...wow.

Remember this post guys?

Well @DDave has his MIL now and I have had his first pass at the mod from the items he has on hand and tested it all the last few days.
pnnmSBm.jpg

Did someone say micro-dosing? well here is a 14mm tapered down bowl, which yes I do realize kinda defeats the purpose of the 18mm female on the unit itself but it does allow a tiny micro bowl screen. This really is the final cherry on making this thing like a portable log, as it reduced the bowl size to near the nano.
lf0a7s0.jpg

The adapter I have cut down to be more flush with the 14mm glass joint.
04DQqMJ.jpg

The taper on the 18 and 14mm mouthpiece is not a wide bore here and is pretty nice in the mouth overall, but I think something in-between what i have here and the stock RBT ones would be my ideal.
Here it is with the 18mm tapered stem.

Speaking of which did you notice the kick-ass basket screen tips? They work well seem durable so far clean easy in ISO/ETH and best of all can hold keif with 0 particle pass-through!:bowdown:

gYeUwYw.jpg

The above image shows on the left a RBT stock stem, on the right is a cut down ISO stem to match the relative length. Please note how this decreases the internal diameter as the glass wall is thicker, just something to note. This pick also shows off the screen well. The ISO stem has a RBT screen installed in it.
0AfSgkd.jpg

The screens @DDave has fit an RBT stem perfectly with a little bit of a scrunch on the first install, then a snug fit then on.

I have had 0 issue with the stem contacting with the heater screen with this basket screen installed on the top of a stock stem, tho I do believe the final revision will have a bit more space to work with here for safety of the unit itself.

Also something to note, which I forgot to take a good PIC of is the stem itself has an internal screen below the basket screen, which is a good second layer to catch something. But more importantly you can load between the basket and the internal screen, for a lower bowl (similar to how the stems come with screen installed from RBT) so what this allows you to do is pack the same stem in 2 locations.

:worms::worms: Then what about double-decker bowls like the SUB? Herb in the internal chamber hash ETC in the basket? :worms::worms:
You can see the internal screen in Pic # 1 and 4 in this post, its visible from outside the unit.

:science::science:If anything here seems up your ally hit @DDave up and hop on in with us in the beta of developing this mod. :science::science:

Pretty sure he also has the screens available if you just want those.

I must be missing something. The insert bowl sits like 5mm above the actual bowl and isn't snug at all. Slips right out...what am I doing wrong because there is no way this is what was intended. Doesn't look flush like yours.

:rockon:Due to International interest, am making arrangements on cheaper shipping. USPS stated shipping to most all international locations would run between $15 & $20USD (a good deal better than the almost $35 currently). Once I am restocked, I should also have the needed shipping supplies to make this happen. Stay tuned!

Looking forward to this! Those stems look exactly like what I was wanting. They might even save my Milaana from being sold.. she's been sitting in her box for a week, mostly because I am super frugal and hate wasting herb! Vapman has my usage covered, works perfectly every time, super efficiently too. I really would like to give Milaana another chance with these stems though. I'll keep my eyes open for them!! :)

Sorry, I'm not understanding which flush you mean.
Can you please quote the single image in question.

The 18>14mm adapter I cut down to be flush if that's what you mean.

Got it. Yeah the adapter. I assumed it was a good fit. None of these items fit appropriately. I should have paid better attention. Fuck

(Forgive the filthy short stem. This setup has been my absolute go to).

I know glass varies slightly... but if it doesn't work, this is the type of feedback I need! (well that and any confirmation of good working order as well).

Await your pics. I hope this is as easy as a reducer that was outside specs, rather than a difference in Mil internal glass. Either way we'll get you set.

Edit: thanks for the vid @murf2010.... watching that wobble almost made me sea sick! That is absolutely not the way my pieces fit my unit.

This kit will be shipped back and will go over to see how the pieces fit my Mil.

Yeah.... crazy 3H (hazy, hot, humid) here in mid-atlantic for a while now, with more to come.

What I do:
  • Store stash airtight with boveda 62% pack. Keeps it just right for storage IMO. I use small (1/2 pint) mason jars when I run out of space in my c-vault. If glass, keep in the dark.
  • Take a small amount (day or two for you) and fold lightly in piece of plain paper. Don't just fold it in half, close it in like a little packet or envelope. Set paper on cable box - or other low heat generating device - for an hour or so.
  • Immediately grind that, or part of it, and put what you aren't going to use in next hour in airtight container like jarz or small tightvac. Seal up ground and whatever you have left of now dried nug.
  • Get some small airtight amber jars/bottles for travel and keeping pre-ground.
  • For holding dried nugs, any small jar that still has its rubbery texture inside lid will work. I like those tiny little jelly jars that come with holiday cheese packs or whatever. Just seal tight and keep in cool-ish, dark place - and NOT the fridge! If not super tight, put a piece of saran wrap over it before putting lid on.
This method works great for me whether humid, dry air in winter, or everything in between. Just put another piece in paper on cable box every time you get to that last little nug of pre-dried to keep things rolling.

This paper method goes way back to my youth. When guerilla farming we could never be too sure when to crop. This was long before we heard about magnifiers, or even knew what to look for in them. You'd take a small bud, write an identifier on a piece of paper (so you knew where that particular one was from), fold it up lightly and throw it on the dashboard on a hot sunny day. After 1/2 day or so, the car would would reak like crazy, and it would be "dry enough". It wasn't perfectly cured by any means, but dried enough where you could get a few good one hits and pretty much tell if it was time or to wait a week or two. IMO works even better to get things a little drier for the vape.

IME material that is a little drier usually vapes better as well as keeping screens cleaner. Yes, you can get more "vapor" from wetter nugs, but all you're adding is water vapor. So, you're just diluting the vapor you want. True of Mi and every other vape I've owned or used more than a couple times. Using it wetter is same as adding mixer to your alcohol - or IMO like adding water to your beer - otherwise known as a Coors Light!

This is an awesome idea. I'd love to hear how it works out for you.

I have a variable DC power supply which I use for my Underdog but this only lets me set a voltage range from 0 to 60v and the amperage from 0 to 5A.

I am wondering where you might find a power supply that goes to 20A and yet also has variable voltage control.....or if you are going to build some kind of circuit to control the power?

If it works out then I am sure that we would all love to hear what you did.
