DDave Mod, New DDave Mini Mod & Kit for Arizer EQ/VTower Vapes

Ed's TnT

Woodsman
Manufacturer
I have some divine discoveries that was sent directly from the vape gods to me and I must share!!

I was looking to get a nice custom stem from @Ed's TnT zion. Once I seen the final design I thought this would definitely fit the EQ! I gave it a go when it arrived and it worked amazing right out the bag to the EQ with out even moving the screen!!

2KO8keQ.jpg

Next it dawned upon me that maybe the ddave mod screen would fit... It actually fit perfect, snug enough to hold tight with out forcing it in.

esXBS3v.jpg

My next move had to be the new mini screen that DDave has added to the mod...

GbGAFoT.jpg

I honestly couldn't believe that it happen to work three different ways with the EQ and I bought it for a zion.

Last discovery was the mflb whip fit into the small screen side, into @Ratchett medium universal SonG into the d020

ByAIasK.jpg

I do not have any sizes this was a random coincidence it happened to fit both basket screens. I love the set up and keep ripping the eq with all the great mod accessories!!

:sherlock:

For fun a quick clip...

:peace:

Wow my man, you really did find a neat discovery with that particular piece, I am so glad you have found other ways to utilize my work! This makes me very happy to see what its capable of and how neat it functions with @DDave work as well, very cool! I still love that piece being the Kingwood having those really nice tones and how it turned out with the dark X grain in the wood. Great job @Philreal187 thanks for pointing this out bro, I hope all is well and wish you all the best!

Vape Donkey 650

All vape, no smoke please.
Hay phellas.....

I've owned an arizer extreme Q for a few years, and it has served me faithfully as a kind of backup volcano. It's the desktop vape I would take to friends houses, parties, etc, for sharing big epic bag sessions, since the arizer is a little more sturdy and can take a little more abuse than a volcano, and with it's much lower cost, I wouldn't be taking such a big loss if it broke. Fortunately, that never happened, but as of late, my poor little arizer has been collecting more dust than vape. :cry:Recent advances in portable flower vapes have given desktops a run for their money.

However... I randomly found out about the DDave mod kit from these forums, and I had an intent to check it out more and buy it for several months before I finally bought the whole kit.

It was actually my purchase of this hydratube bubbler that I started using with my arizer and the stock cyclone bowls that catalyzed me to finally buy DDave's kit.

ujYrYGk.jpg

I was never a big fan of the arizer without the bag, but once I put that piece on top of my flowers, it changed my mind big time! :o

Only a few days later I got the DDave Kit, and these things really opened up the performance on my arizer!
:clap::rockon:

I thought the cyclone bowls with the hydratube was sick...well with the short 18mm adapters now, it feels like i'm pulling clouds 30-40% bigger with about the same draw effort, and the vape quality is no lesser than stock too. If I pull really hard on my hydratube, I can probably double airflow over stock, but then I cough :ugh: haha

q8koILp.jpg

This has spurred me to accumulate many various glass connector joints. They're great, like stoner legos  I was able to set up a double-hookah session with a friend last week, and it worked great! It's even possible for both people to hit their water tools at the same time and get nice hits, but it's better if they take turns and get full clouds.

K7FHVtR.jpg

As you can see with my setup, I'm using some of the stock style arizer glass elbows. Even though they are taller and pretty and customized, they still have the same airflow restriction where the smaller glass stem comes out at the side to attach the whip/hose.

I did read through this thread, and I see the general consensus is that the straight glass adapter with the larger 1/2" diameter hose as a kink guard is preferable over the elbows, mainly for airflow reasons?

That seems plausible over the stock elbows. But I do like the way you can swivel a glass elbow in the 18mm joint to point towards yourself to make your whip functionally longer.

I'm hungry for moar vape, so I'm thinking of getting the best of both worlds here, and trying a couple of these angled 18mm glass joints in my setup: one on top of a DDave adapter, and the other into the joint of my water tool. With the larger 1/2" silicon hose in between the two (not the smaller hose)

http://www.dhgate.com/product/45-degree-bent-shape-male-to-male-glass-adapter/383695923.html

45%20degree%20bent%20shape%20male%20to%20male%20Glass%20Adapter%2014mm%20or%2018mm%20glass%20Converter%20male%20joint%20glass%20dome%20adapter%2014.5mm%20,18.8mm.jpg

It would be kinda like this, which I have set up as a glass globe + dab rig attachment for my Divine Tribe 2.5 ceramic donut.

zxlZvYN.jpg

So what do you guys think about using these larger elbows and silicon hose for my water tool attachment on top of any of the DDave adapters? From a performance view, aesthetic, user-friendly, etc.?

My intent is for a larger hose without any chokepoints or restrictions that can provide my tool with great airflow, and therefore bigger clouds with easier effort.

But maybe this can backfire, with less air pressure and velocity through the elbows and hose not providing the intended benefits, or still requiring a heavy draw to achieve it? :hmm:

Maybe someone out there has tried this already and can offer advice, or maybe people are using other similar whip-style vapes with a larger diameter and can compare the differences between the two?

Thanks Dave, you rock!

So I was pondering something similar as the post above regarding elbows vs. the straight shot up of glass. One for look, less scary looking to my wife, or anyone that glances at it. She is not big on the idea of having this around the house.

I'm just starting and will primarily use the whip. Small doses like the "Log" or DDAVE mini kit provided but I would prefer an elbow look, cosmetically speaking.

The glass piece above, can it be used with a whip or just use the one from arizer, many complained about the one that came with it of course. Thoughts?

The mini mod and og mod both have amazing function. In my opinion the mini uses less herb for a quick rip or four. While the original mod holds a bit more giving more hits.

I would definitely go for the 18mm bc u can always pick up a very inexpensive reducer and drop it to 14mm, and now you have the best of both worlds!!

Questions: I'm on the fence, with the smaller mod kit, wouldn't one pack the elbow or wand end? Or due to the smaller bowl the flower goes into there?

Lo and Behold! The transformative power of Vapor.
Thought I'd share my project since others are working out some hose management. There is an earlier post in the EQ thread on how I did this. But here is the more recent reference to it and my 2x wand. I'm using the 45 degree glass end as an adapter and wand. ans using the 2x wand in the D020-D. Making it involved 2 silicone hose with matching I.D and O.D. so I can telescope one piece over the inside hose. Water and a running hose allows me to slip the the larger 3 segments over the smaller one. Slip the inside hose inside a glass adapter. Outer segment over the glass adapter. Works great! Click to expand the second pic. Notice in the second pic in the quoted msg how it keeps it's arch shape without kinking. Well behaved adapter hose and wand in one.
It still checks all the boxes for me and my setup. There are other vapes that can specialize on whips or bags or group settings, but this one is always good as a #2 if you are trying out another vape and find something that works.
Like say when I was getting to know my UD. Using the temp control with the EQ helped me hone my skills for vapor production. Plus I have put a lot of glass on top of the unit before.

I sometimes start with a water sesh and squeezing the last bit of vapor out with a bag. Or use the fan to test my airflow for my setup.

DD update
CyPOqUZ.jpg

My DD setup is about using the 45 degree glass adapter end of my gooseneck 2x whip hose as the wand/elbow. (2x of tubing) It heats up as well as my best wands. so why complicate things, If one piece does it all?

The 45 glass adapter is already fixed with my whip hose, so no special wands or whips hose needed. The gooseneck is a wand and extension hose to my 2x glass wand that now sits in my D020-d. Best arch with least parts and fumbling.

So I use the 2x wand (pictured below in my older setup being used as a wand in the EQ) and plug it into my D020-D instead. A D020-D with it's own 7 in extension. Yes I modded my D020-D with a downstem with the stem part broken off and with some silicone hose magic. It is more comfortable angle for me plus I can see the water action a little further back. Much, In the same manner as my water piece below. Works great and has it's 18mm adapter end as the mouthpiece. So I can decide to hook it up to another piece. Another handy feature. Something I was attempting with the glass warhammer below.

Hey welcome to FC. One quick ? for you: are you "dab ears" or a chicago fan of "da bears" ? :D

Less scary looking, that's a nice way of putting it. It looks a little less strange and just a tad bit more friendly with the bent elbows, and cool with the color and styling too.

Not sure what you mean if it can be used just with a whip or just the one from arizer? The 18mm male joint on the elbow will drop into any 18/F joint, and the other end is the right size for a 1/4" hose. That leaves alot of possibilities. It's pretty much just a taller version of the stock arizer elbow, with a little more variety in each piece since they are hand made. I got 4 or 5 of these colored arizer elbows from Tim at justvaporize.com. It's not listed on his site but I believe he has several more if you send him an email.

This is another view of the elbow, I'm using one to make an adapter for my friend's Divine Tribe ceramic donut and temp control mod to connect to another D-020 D9, but it can work in just about any 18mm F joint or object that can accept a 1/4" hose.

CuckFum, thanks for sharing your...thing :D :tup:I don't know what to call it...adapter, connector, bent glass elbow, wand? I had to re-read your post a few times, let me see if I have this straight?

  • It is "modular" and you take it apart at the middle to use with your various vapes / water tools? Or do you keep it together as 1 piece like this and just move the whole thing between different pieces to connect them?

  • Your intent with the 45* bent elbows was to make a "soft" bend or arch to connect your arizer and water tool. Not as upright as the DDave wand adapter, but not as sharp as a 90* elbow? Did you have any goals to improve airflow / performance as well?

  • The silicon hoses on the outside end is the large, 1/2" silicon hose that is the anti-kink guard in the DDave 18mm kit? And in the middle, is that the 1/4" silicon hose with the ends flared to slip over the larger hose?

After I had set up my Arizer+DDave with the pretty glass elbows in my last post, I finally got my hands on some nice 18mm M/M bent glass adapters, and I put in some big orders of the big 1/2" silicon hose from David. Now I have a high-flow, restriction free, arch-free connect between DDave and my water tools, and I have been vaping this way for a few weeks now....and I gotta say... wow :o It's worth it...the airflow improvements are noticeable

With my D-020. No sesh here, just a quick mock-up for the photo shoot.

And also with my sunshinestore hydatrube. I really enjoy vaping with this piece and the larger tube now...

I made a little case / holder for this hydratube for convenience. If you wanna put it down for a moment, mid-session, the hydratube won't easily balance or lean against something, and I don't want to disconnect / reconnect the glass elbow from the hydratube whenever I take a pause. (lazy, convenient) So now I just let the tube sit in it's little "boat" throughout the session, and I don't have to worry about it tipping over or the elbow falling out of the bottom.

But regarding the hose / elbow performance.... the diameter is double the size, but airflow doesn't seemed double. I'm more of a casual sipper with my DDave + water tool sessions, I'm not going for single-hit or quick extractions, really, but I do enjoy large, easy clouds also. With my moderate style of drawing, I'd ballpark that I'm seeing a 25%-30% airflow increase over the smaller hose. Very little is being lost on the bent glass elbows, which have a smooth radius and have at least the same size diameter throughout, as the 1/2" hose.

For you heavy-hitters who chase the biggest clouds and quickest extractions, I think you may want to look into a large hose / low-restriction elbow setup. You can still use Dave's 18mm wand adapter without any losses, but you'll need an 18mm / 18mm bent adapter of some sort, or whatever large-diameter connection to your water tool.

The downsides are relatively minor:

  • the larger hose is more rigid than the 1/4" and needs a bigger radius to make a bend or arc. but it also won't kink too. I'm pretty sure a medical grade 1/2" diameter silicon hose with 9/16 outside diameter can be sourced that will be a little more flexible. This one is 3/4" OD

  • for the same given amount of airflow, the vape is moving at a lower velocity compared to 1/4" This isnt much of a downside, except possibly for people like me using a longer length hose. This connection holds alot of vapor itself and has a longer "vapor path" By that, I mean it takes more time for the vape to travel from the flower through the connection to your water tool and mouth.

I'm using around 370-ish with the short adapters and not much higher than 380F with the talls.

It takes about 6-8 seconds from the first draw on a new session for the vape to finally reach my lungs, and then it stays a fairly steady stream until. the flowers are done.

So a good quick-extracter tactic, may be to "prime" your water tool by pulling for 4 or 5 seconds, you'll get a tiny light terp-flavor vape, exhale, and then your tool is ready for massive clouds! :o

When the flowers are fresh, this setup can deliver MUCH more vape than I'm capable of taking without coughing. I take 4 or 5 second bites and nibbles early in the sesh, (very dense and tasty) and I can handle 8-12 second hits when the flower is mid-vaped. For my more moderate capacities, I believe the large hose is benefitting me by delivering the same size of a cloud over a slightly shorter time duration.

My 6 second hit blows out roughly as much vape with 1/2" hose as a 10 second hit with 1/4", estimating. It also allows the user to fetch similar clouds with less lung effort. With the high-flow D-020 or a similar rig, big chunks of vapor are grabbed with ease.

The 'gooseneck' adapter hose was made to be an adapter first. To deal with all the bent hose issues. It is part of my all modular setup. Just found out recently how well it works as an all-in-one.

You are correct about the 'soft' bend. At first I purposely was going for an arch for the least amount of pinching. Plus I borrowed some architecture from the Seattle arch. Now, I can set my water piece next to my EQ with no bends or twist or fuss with the hose. It is very well behaved and worth the time for this project.

Later I realized the adapter end worked as well as a straight glass wand. So I use it as a wand, hose, and adapter to my water tool.

I don't remember the exact measurements offhand. But yes I used two different hoses. Perhaps @DDave uses the same hose for anti-kink guards? Both of the hoses I picked are from the same distibuter with the I.D. of the larger hose matching the O.D. of the smaller hose. Found the original post I made on the EQ thread here. -> post 10217

Finally got around to trying the 14mm wand. Rather than try and stuff the basket, I just pushed a little bud into the 18/14. Oh my...Beginners luck I'm sure but what a tasty mouthful. I've been using this weed for months and never noticed the taste of mint before. Couple of the most seriously wonderful hits I've ever had. 392 on a well warmed EQ. A little afraid to repeat in case it was a fluke...

Yea I noticed that it gives a different flavor profile too. Like say eating a single berry. I am enjoying actual mints leaves as well.

Got some more time with my 2 SSV wands and the EQ. The flanged SSV can make any material produce a little cloud action with the right draw strength. Even Lemongrass produces some cloud action.

My milaana mod just came today. I haven't tried it yet but all the pieces seem to fit well. No excessive shaking. I read somewhere that some have had a problem. I am using the original one.

I tried it on the newer Milaana I bought as a back up. It has the Milaana modifications. I still didn't experience any problems with fit.

As I transition from combustion to vaping :uhoh: I must thank you @DDave for the hard work you have put into this mod kit! After a tremendous amount of reading across various sites I have finally convinced myself to buy a couple of vapes for my bday present to myself :brow: and I will be looking for the best ways to mod and enjoy this nifty device. I'm pulling the trigger on the V2.5 kit tonight and I can't wait to see how it transforms my experience.

I am still looking for a good bong to pair it with, there are too many amazing options from dhgate but I shall collect many....in the name of Science! :science:. Just need to settle on a piece to start the collection.

Lo and Behold! The transformative power of Vapor.
Whatever you missed might come up again in the thread at some point. Although looking over say the last 10 pages in any thread helps to keep up.

Well you could pick out a short preferably light 18mm F/F adapter.
I found one I like for under 10, but it is for wand basket packs only. Then maybe a better wand then the stock elbow. Thinner finer mesh replacement screens.

Still thinking if you bought everything seperatly on your own it might be more money. but IDK. You could also contact @DDave himself for suggestions and what to source for. He is always looking for better quality screens, hoses, etc. At least save you the trouble of finding.

Or try something new....... :sherlock: So I'm liking this!-> 1/2" I.D. x 7/8" O.D. Silicone Tubing Extra Thick Wall- Food Grade High Temp

Took two 45 degree glass adapters and plugged one in into each end, adjusted the angles with my water setup and was GTG. No special project and no wimpy hose. But you do want to measure where your pieces will be setting next to the EQ because the extra thick tubing is stiffer and has less bend to it. It could push your water piece around and off the table, if you are not careful. :o It is that heavy duty. Just plugged it with two corks, cleaned it with ISO, then and a water rinse and back in business. No fuss with tools to get reclaim out. And using 99% ISO instead of the 95% ISO I've been getting locally.

Other thing I'm getting with. Have two SSV wands that are not the 18.8 mm version. (standard, spherical) I can fashion a basket screen to fit inside the standard and hold the wand over the EQ's heater cover and have a mini cyclone session. So If I don't mind holding the wand down on the cover, IO get to watch the cyclone dance and vapor pour draw out of each piece independently. Made a long enough whip so I can be far enough away from the EQ to watch the magic happen. :brow: I have thought about getting some fake SSV setup with the EQ. An angled piece, perhaps a faux SSV heater cover that can be set inside a F/F or fit the 18mm on the EQ. If the heat conducts from the heater cover to the connecter then I can have SSV wand sessions making this machine even more robust. :science: And I only paid $4 for each wand.
So how much is the kits to Canada and other @DDave needy countries? :D Or should I say the latest S&H? I'm asking for others in the EQ forum that need help. It is easier to tell a person to get the kit then repeat myself about choosing the right F/F, whip hose, etc. :myday: Then turn around and explain the um... less orthodox methods I'm trying out. Like say me having a turbo cyclone session with a standard SSV wand and basket screen.

@DDave and y'all, I know you are always looking to improve the vapor flow. There might be a silicone hose that is thinner then the beefy tubing I just rambled about but slightly thicker then the more average silicone hose. @DDave's and any silicone hose I buy is high temp rated and foodsafe. Researched my 3/8 I.D. and it is cured with ISO, making it presumably even more ISO safe. I still use as little as needed and rinse with warm water. Replace my hose when cracks form. etc

http://www.ebay.com/itm/The-Complet...od-Kit-V1-75-Extreme-Extraction-/122096396076

Are all these parts to this kit generic/EQ friendly? There is other parts and extra 14mm screens that might pair up with what remains of my existing kit. Or should I say my junk drawer of glass. :haw:

You can use the hose that comes with the kit as a whip, it's just better quality than the one the the EQ comes with

Just pop a screen into the f/f adapter and use the same as the stock kit but with better results

When I want to use it whip style I just unplug the water tool adapter and plug in the glass mp to the same hose

Pop a flat or basket screen into the f/f adapter?

Is it ok that the glass mouthpiece doesn't fit flush in kits hose? It slides up

I've got to be doing something wrong because I'm getting the exact vapor volume as with the stock equipment.

First, make sure you preheat your glass at least ten minutes before vaping. Adapter too.

Never said I was an artist!

That picture helps tremendously.

My wand looks a little different that the pictured setup. Is that a previous version of the wand?

Also, do you push the hose inside the wand or wrap it around the outside of the glass wand?

That's the 14mm wand, the hose slips over the top for this one

With the 18mm wand you push the hose inside the wand

Any suggestions for a mouthpiece on the tube that comes with the kit?
Which kit did you get?

There is a 14mm whip water too adapter that comes with the complete kit and can come with the other two that makes a great mouthpiece.

Haven't posted this over in the Firewood thread yet (back to back posts are gauche), but guess what? Your DDave 14 mm wand fits the new Woody like it was designed for it. I hope someone else will confirm that it's cool, but I just got 4 great hits and I'm good for the morning! A more normal pack would still get you 2 or 3; I not only overpack but then I grind the little piece of torn off bud in with a dowel. Yes, the first hit is ridiculously "milkshake" difficult, but no one said getting high was supposed to be easy. Oh and obviously you pull the stem after every draw in order to clear the heat.

Not sure if it's been noticed, but am in process of migrating from eBay to www.DDaveMods.com. eBay was a nice starting place, but it's too restrictive. Once I get current kits, Mod info, and other pages on the site fully up to date, I will be testing out posting some individual pieces and refill packs for mod kits. That way if it's discovered that a piece or two from a kit works well with a completely different vape, that those pieces can easily be made available by separate listing.
