Discontinued The Grasshopper

Well... I'm 53 years old, I only use public transport when I blaze it and I only do it in public, when I'm a blade of grass in a huge meadow. I did my share of really stupid, unnecessarily risky dumbassery, trust me. Taking two, three practically odorless tokes from something that looks like an ecig, at a place where the stank of smoldering cigarette filters would cover up if I smoked opium laced with ammonium chloride, among dozen others either producing smelly smoke or even more smelly vape... that's a pretty low risk in my book. I appreciate the concern though...

I already said "to each his/her own" and wasn't intending to get preachy...sorry if that's the way you understood my post.

So I just turned my grasshopper on and off like 3 times after pulling some air and there was no vapor production at all.

The problem? There was no weed in it. I'm not very smart.

That, my friend.....is reason enough for a warranty claim. See if HL will fill'er up for you :)

Prices seem to be coming down on ebay. Has anyone ordered from bobinthesaab1? He has quite a history of selling them and they were originally priced pretty high. Now they are commanding around a $100 premium. Assuming they are legit, he must be an outlet for hopper labs to get a little extra funding. Very tempting.

Hahaha I've done this!! I'm so nervous about this thing not working that I started stressing before even looking in the chamber!! Damn near had a warranty claim done only to realize my freshly ground herb waiting patiently to be vaped on the table...Yeesh I rely on this thing so much as it works unbelievably when proper that I start trippin if anything weird happens. Good thing the extraction is so good I feel much better with one proper pull...:whip::party:

I've developed a "not proper hopper" syndrome. All the more reason to vape..its a vicious/lovely cycle;)

Ps. Can this be added to the troubleshooting guide!! Jk..

My hopper will be arriving today, and as many of you, I've been getting ready for it like an expectant father...
I look forward to being a valid contributor of do's and don'ts for Hopper use... In the meanwhile....

The brush I got with my CFX is the perfect size for the Grasshopper: http://bndlsvapes.com/oven-cleaning-brush.html

I rarely brush it out anymore, I did brush it a lot at first. Partly because I don't care as much but I've also found that once the metal was "seasoned" my cannabis doesn't stick nearly as much. Occasionally, maybe once a week I will brush the oven.

Would those "dental brushes" that you buy in packs of 10 or 20 work as well as this brush in the above post? That one seems more "stiff" - or dare I say, abrasive?

Actually a good idea... Do's and Don'ts for Hopper Use and Maintenance.
Sure, it has lifetime warranty, but I'm sure there are things that GHL (if they were listening) would go, "Uh, yeah, don't do that"....

Seriously though, part of me wants GH to see our Resource thread, maybe even help out by honestly commenting on these fixes if necessary; be a part of the community of users.
.... Nah, that's crazy!

Almost any brush will work, I would avoid any metal wire bristles. I just like the CFX brush because it's almost the perfect size, I have another very similar brush from somewhere and it's nearly identical but the handle isn't as nice.

You can also find similar brushes in the cosmetics department of a pharmacy or supermarket.

I would recommend to anyone that vapes that they get a set of bottle brushes in various sizes. This set is a whopping $6 and has plastic protective tips on the end.

Thank you, Baron23... Actually I have a set of these which I'd bought when I got my Pax(es)... I found them to be too scratchy for running through the long stem of the Pax, but maybe they'll come in handy for gentler use on the hopper.

a brush is barely useful with the hopper IMO, it is handy when putting herb in after using concentrates (ABV gets stuck to oil residue) but really, a pack of q-tips or pipe-cleaners and some ISO is perfectly ample.
It only takes 30 seconds to clean the herb chamber.
If you want to use a brush, I'd imagine a small brush that is easy to manoeuvre around and get to spots on the chamber walls would be best. I do have a small bottle-brush, but I can't see how I would use it with the hopper. Bottle-brushes are handy for cleaning glassware though, but even now I vape, it's easy enough to just dissolve residue and rinse.
I'd recommend test driving the hopper in your use-case before buying any cleaning products, other than 90+% isopropyl alcohol and a pack of q-tips (try and find some without perfume or smelly adhesives).
It is handy to have a stoker though, for stoking out spent chambers.
So the MFLB brush is good for both of these purposes. But it's far from necessary and I mostly use it for my grinder.

Okay, so I grind really finely and I thought it'd be worth the time involved to take out the stock Grasshopper screen and replace it with a fine Lotus screen (which fits perfectly) and damn. I am not one who finds the hopper harsh, I use it primarily on 5 dry. That said, taking out the stock screen assembly makes the hopper waaaaaay too hot and harsh for me to use it that way. I hit it once and knew. It heated up to about what would usually be how hot it was after 2 or 3 draws in just 1. So, I guess I'm back to inhaling tiny bits of weed...I really wish they'd have chosen a finer screen, that's my only real design complaint so far.

@Kalessin could you place an 8mm screen on top of the herb before the mouthpiece goes on?
You must be grinding really fine, so hopefully you'll have enough space to easily fit something in?
Yeah, I thought about it, but it seems like such a thing would be a pain when carrying out and about

you could always grind less fine :p
A screen could just stay in the chamber, though it would make emptying a bit of a pain I guess.

Have you used compressed air to clean out the mouthpiece and/or oven?

I've been looking for the best brush to clean both. I tried the ff brush, but it's too short. I've been using the Crafty brush, but I'd really prefer one with fewer bristles (a narrower diameter). Figure I'll find the right thing in an art supply store. But any suggestions are much appreciated!
I clean my gh with cotton fabric (a piece of an old t-shirt) after empting the chamber... and it works great my chamber looks like new... I push the fabric in the chamber rotate it a few times... also I am using a toothpick to empty my bowl... in my opinion it is better touse a wooden toothpick somyou do not scratch the chamber with a metall too,...

So I don't have mine yet, but all my other convection vapes (FireFlys, Milaana, poor man's Volcano, EQ) seem to do just fine with hand tearing, a coarse grind, or even just jamming in a little bud. I thought fine grind was mostly for conduction? Why fine grind and have you tried other methods?

I have tried other grinds, but never really liked them. With a more coarse grind it always seemed like I had to empty it out into my hand and crumble it part way through to get it extracted completely anyway, but mainly my thing about it is it's difficult for me to measure out proper doses without it being a consistent fine grind

Sure. That makes sense. I never finish a bowl in my portables and save the ABV for my "Volcano" to get maximum extraction. Well at home anyway; out and about is different. Proper dosage for me always seems to be "more"...

Can you put the finer screens in without taking the stock screens out?
I can lay the finer screen over the stock screen, the threads hold it in place. But it is thick enough it stops the mouthpiece from turning all the way closed and leaves a gap I can't deal with being there lol

Thanks for the suggestion. I never thought of using fabric. I'm seeing debris catch on the mouthpiece screen, so that's the main reason I was looking for a small brush. Using q-tips for the walls of the oven makes sense too. Time to get me some of those precision q-tips!

Haven't been here in a few weeks. Another dead Hopper to report, body crapped out (goes to blue lights immediately after turned on & no heat).

Warranty request #14 for me. How's everyone else's working?
That is really shitty
Seriously.... 14 times through warranty with the same hopper?
