From my experiences leeching and just grinding up the AVB and throwing it in are about the same. Hearing from 20-30 peoples reactions to the brownies most are really good. Some are pretty extreme. I have to think that some of the extreme reactions are due are caused by a psychosomatic reaction...

I have the bubbler attachment that 7th floor sells. This catches all the fine powder that comes through the tube. It is really nice. If you can afford the 100 bucks I highly recommend it.

I am of the opinion that straining anything is extra work that yields lower potency products. I had my ABV sitting in canola oil for about a week then made brownies with the oil and the abv. It doesn't make any sense to me to throw this stuff out. The only time I could see it being appropriate...
