Yes, it should be the other way around. Isn't the rubber burnt? Adding a spacer turns down the power as less metal in the heating zone. Changes the heating profile. EDIT: Also, the previous method for heat shield was ba dense hard high heat rubber, so you might have a unit in that era. :hmm:

Hi there. If it was used for long without the heat shield in place, the switch will have melted. If damaged to the point the switch no longer clicks, the mechanism will need to be replaced. Please reach out via PM.

The hole is about 13mm ID, so will be a tight fit.
