The oil in that pic has a ton of tane in it. My point is even if you purge all the tane out, there may still be moisture in the oil. Over time some of the moisture will evaporate and the oil will become more shattery.

The oil is likely shedding water. The oil will not purge itself of butane without heat that is above room temp. The surface viscosity of the oil will prevent any butane from escaping unless heat is applied.

Should I be trying to keep the oil level above the coil at all times?

My heaters eventually build up a layer of black shit on the coils. I burn it off by doing multiple empty cycles with a fully charged battery. I would love to find a better way.

I don't think that top inlet hole is an inlet hole. It is solid and there for support. The blue line you drew in the pic should be the sweet spot.

Great vid Vitolo! Can you give us an idea of how long the battery on the essence lasts when fully charged? Can the essence take a load the size that the VIP 1 can take? Thanks!

Well, I'm still not certain weather you are using concentrates or flowers. Concentrates need to be applied directly to the coil. Most pens will shut off automatically after 10 seconds to keep the coil from overheating. For flowers you would likely need to press and hold for multiple cycles...

Are you using it with flowers? Most, if not all, pens are only good with concentrates, regardless of manufacturer claims.

I have found that you can pack too tightly and end up sucking air in thru the buttons instead of thru the bowl. A major design flaw IMO. That air-path should be sealed up.

Looks like the Surfer guys have a new pen out. The Essence. Anyone have any info? Really want to know the battery life and load capacity. It looks very small. Only $60.

That's a loaded question. It depends on your personal needs. Everyone's individual requirements are different. Do some research. You can find just about everything you want to know about vaporizers here at FC. And probably several threads about the question you just asked.
