I Wouldn't have thought it mattered as much which side of the referendum they are, it's whether they're competent enough for the job, do they have the respect of their party and the people? Leavers currently think it's all about them and what they want and want us all to pull together, it's going to be testing times ahead imho.

Of course to a point, and as I maintain, they are simply the leader of a party.

However, with Theresa May's track record on border control, I can't believe she had the audacity to even stand.

Breaking News : Boris will not be putting himself forward for PM.

So it looks like bitch from hell might get it!

I had a feeling Boris wouldn't run, it would poison his chalice and his eyes are still on the prize he wanted from all of this, this way he cynically gets to let someone else handle the fallout and take up the reigns further down the line if the conservative party are still credible at the end of this.

At the moment I'm not convinced any party is credible and I wonder if what happens next is too important to let a self serving politician like Gove or Johnson handle it on their own without support from all parties.

Still, it doesn't matter what any of us think, democracy in action means we will definitely be headed up by an unelected leader that we can't shift for 4 years barring some constitutional crisis.

Yeah, Boris is much smarter than he portrays and I was wondering if he wanted to take the reigns once the dust has settled and someone else has brokered the Brexit deal.

I'm with @phattpiggie 'None of the above' , all contenders are not fit for the job, either due to tuition fees, NHS, border control or expenses scandal.

Having wiki'd all of the front runners (I know dangerous , pinch of salt is advised), they all have major skeletons in their closet, and not suitable for the job IMO.

Like you say, it needs to be someone that can unite the party, and then the country, is any of them capable of that task?

Do you guys over the pond not vote on county/district/city commisioners seats? Mayor's? Governors? Judges? Sheriffs?

What about mill levies, tax increase/decrease questions or local/state/national issues?

This question specifically is directed at those that choose not to vote at all, because they don't believe in the top leaders or the parties in power's priorities? So you also don't care to have a say on any of that other stuff? Hopefully everyone just decides how you would have wanted, and you will just stand aside with a cynical look on your face? Sounds good...

You do realize that whether or not you vote, specifically at a local level, the people in local power directly affect almost every facet of your life, yes? And often times, (at least here in the US) when it is time to choose the people that are going to be on a ballot for your county or city etc is decided on in a caucus or primary, where an individual often has enormous voice. This is where you go and choose or be that person you want to have making decisions, and it is often just 20 or so people deciding on candidates that represent hundreds of thousands of people... because most people just don't give a shit. So if you did, you could have more of an impact than you think.

Just saying.

Have a good one regardless. No ill will intended.

We have local council elections and we have just started to vote for police commissioner.

So although the MP in our area is Tory, the council is Lib Dem.

Local council get to set 'Council Tax' (for roads, street lightning, refuse, policing) but we don't get to vote on it. We vote for a councilor and that's it.

Income tax, VAT, inheritance tax, stamp duty etc. is set at national level by the party in power.

This has been an ongoing issue of over centralisation and there have been steps made to devolve power to local councils, but there is still a long way to go.

Each country in the union can chose what to spend the money they get from central government, but again the people do note vote on any of this.

We also have a stupid situation where councils will spunk money on crap just to use it up, so they don't lose any funding next time. Rather than being able to obtain money adhoc for needs as they arise, they get a budget, and anything not spent goes back to central government and likely to be deducted from the next amount given, so they spend it to ensure funding levels are maintained.

yeah, sadly that last one we have in common... in both industry and municipalities :(

From what appears to be coming out of the press about boris, it seems he was going to run right up until gove declared his intentions and withdrew because he won't get the numbers now. Interesting that gove has been insisting he hasn't got it in him to be pm for the last few years but now all of a sudden thinks he's the man for he job.

Yes, something is afoot, and there is clearly maneuvering going on. Boris was front runner and suddenly Gove removes support for Boris and puts himself forward instead.

It will be down to the 'accidentally' leaked to the public email from goves wife about boris and his cosy relationship with murdoch and paul dacre.

Now again I'm not from the uk as we all know. But why would any uk person give 2 fucks what any actor from another country think. I mean he's(C. Waltz)going to have a different perspective on these matters. I had no idea the hate he would garner.
What I'm wondering after all this has and is playing out is just how much was the EU dependent on the UK and how much was the UK dependent on the EU.

we don't but sky do, sky is partially owned by rupert murdoch/news corp, which in the scheme of things is just another shady way that rotten auld git (murdoch) is manipulating home/world opinion. News corp has it's fingers in far too many pies, pretty sure it owns fox news amongst the hundreds of media outlets it owns across the globe.

Latest News : Theresa May to be PM from tomorrow, Cameron officially reigns to the queen.

While Angela Eagle leads a coup against Corbyn who refused to leave meeting with Labour's NEC.

What a nightmare : - Worst person for Tories is in while best person for Labour is being forced out.. the shit really has hit the fan!

In case people have short memories about the fact that Theresa May is partly why we even ended up with a referendum to leave EU in the first place : http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...Agency-scandal-How-criminals-let-unknown.html

Read some shit in the headlines whilst shopping (well glanced actually) that immigration has 'sky rocketed' since Brexit! From what I'm hearing and seeing, it's becoming clear that Brexit (leaving Europe) is becoming as hard to leave as the Hotel California, remember that line; "you can check out (or in this case Vote Out) but you can never leave!"

Seems like they are doing their best to try and stem the tide and it's kinda not working, so much for the political process!

Just saying!

Peace :leaf:

This was certainly not what any one voted for regardless of your persuasion.

Though there are ripples in the EU with Austria nearly voted in a an ex-Nazi party, and Italy on the brink of collapse.

Perhaps it's a bit like standing on a planet, you know it is moving, but you can't feel the motion.

So I think the train is leaving the station, it's just at a snails pace.
