Athlete Vaporists?

Been working with the kids at my high school coaching hurdle technique a couple days a week. I still hold the school record after 20 years and I took it from my brother... And for once in my life I almost feel respected... All be it by a bunch of highschoolers. Nothing like the Zen of running hurdles in the spring sun

Dude Id totally just been thinking the other day about how I would eventually want to go to a high school and coach tennis or something like that. Do you teach at the school too or anything or do you just coach?

I do competitive downhill longboading. Sometimes I meet up with people I don't know too well to skate, and vape out hard before we get going, and then they always look concerned for my wellbeing, but I make it to the bottom of the hill first,,, without falling ;)

I was a pack a day cigarette smoker, but was still relatively athletic. Of course, it was more and more difficult for me to even run up a flight of stairs, which is a large part of the reason I quit. You're not nuts--many vapers are also very active.

I am still fitter than I have ever been since switching to the Vape several years ago. I play soccer, go to the gym, do weights, walk for miles, ride the bike along the coast. When I combusted, I rarely did any of these activities.

One suggestion for readers of this thread is to take a warm bath filled with at least 250g of Epsom salts after a particularly heavy work out or soccer session, I believe it is great for recovery / general well-being. I also have a few blasts on my arizer air before relaxing both body and mind in this salt bath concoction for 20mins or so.

Never stop moving, mentally and/or physically for as long as you can.

Absolutely. Magnesium sulfate. Both magnesium and sulfate are big dogs when it comes to ridding the body of toxins.

Took my first MTB ride today in around 10 months, maybe more who knows. I've been vaping for right about a year now and am fairly in tune with my consumption patterns and their effects on me with regard to physical exertion. I regularly (and happily) vape prior to a light home made stretch (am I crazy or are vaping and stretching meant for each other?) / lift / jump / jump rope / 'sprint' thing I do to stay somewhat mobile amidst my many times of inactivity. But I haven't vaped prior to riding ever. Today was a tough slog on the bike no doubt but it gave me a baseline. Next ride I'll vape and start the comparisons!

So a slow opening slog on the bike a couple o days ago. Then the same ride today. All conditions were pretty much the same. Maybe a little hotter today.

Vaped a few light hits on the lowest temp of the Arizer Air just prior to hopping back in the saddle. No adverse lung reaction. None whatsoever.

I typically am stocked with indicas but a bud swap a couple of weeks ago landed me a nice bud of a sativa dom strain. That's what I vaped.

I'm pretty sure there was an analgesic effect. I didn't really hurt much the whole ride and this was just my second ride in ages.

But the big thing I noticed was my focus. Not distracted a tiny bit. Tuned in. This is great and I should have known it would be the case. But being that winding a bike up and down rocky rooty hills through the woods would make one think twice about being 'under the influence,' I was a little aprehensive. What a dope I was. Doped up stoner myth still has its hooks in me! The myth of the slow dopey stoner just sucks. My meds clear my head and tune me in. But there are other threads for that issue...

One other thing. I didn't have drive at the end to extend the ride. That probably would have been the case either way (slightly vaped or not). But my head told me I was done. Maybe it knew what I would be doing once the ride was over...

Very happy result and I think I'll be testing some more. Gotta see how things are with my indicas. And if my brain lets me push it a little further next time.

Went out to the garage yesterday to throw my bike on top of my car with the expectation of doing a ride after I took care of some business. Arrrgh. A pool of hydraulic fluid laying under my rear suspension. So there goes that ride.

Our local bike shop doesn't do suspension repairs and the bike shop I go to for that stuff didn't have an opening until next Tuesday. What's a person to do. Buy a new bike?

I'd had my eye on a giant 27.5" for some time but couldn't justify the expense as long as my other bike (2009 trek 26" full suspension) wasn't giving me problems. Hell, even if it was giving me problems I couldn't justify the expense. But wtf I'm a dumb ass and the trek opened the window and I dove through! Impulsive upgrade to a 2016 giant anthem sx 27.5¨

Gotta find me some pedals, load up the AA and hit the trails

I have been getting my 4 and 5 year old into BMX since we have a really nice track about a mile from the house. The 4 year old is on a strider and the 5 year old needs a BMX bike but they are both progressing fast. My kids have been my sports and fitness for the past 5 years but now I can ski with them (taught them both to snow ski already) and soon I can BMX with them. I am teaching them to dirtbike as well. These are things I love to get vaped before doing. And legos too but is that a sport? Is a master builder an athlete?

Glad your kids are active. Back in the days, all my friends rode bikes, played sports. No iPads. I see too many kids inactive these days, playing iPad.

The 4 year old destroys me some times because he makes things look so easy and he's usually really good at things but he often wants to stop whatever it is we are doing after about 30 minutes or so and go inside and play Batman II on the Wii or watch something on the tablet so I am sure he will be more techy for sure. My 5 year old is like I was, always ready to do something physical. Our 3-1/2 month old seems pretty active already too. I look forward to getting back into all the sports I loved growing up and even ones that I didn't get a chance to get as involved in as I would have liked.

@nosmoking - Don't kids make a great excuse for being a kid yourself

Can't count the number and type of sports I used them as an excuse to get back into or start new. Usually started with me saying to the wife something like 'The kids would love to get into Kayaking'.

Wait till they get to be adults and turn the tables on you with things like 'Hey Dad, I got this Groupon for us for skydiving because I just knew you'd love it'.

So true man...I was just talking to the wifey over dinner last night about how I have a Kayak but the 5 year old doesn't and Costco has a pretty nice junior size Kayak right now:brow::lol: And my 5 year old has been making his birthday list for this upcoming August since this past March so I already know what you mean about turning the tables! Perhaps I will get to dust off my Kayak and explore the Shenandoah some more with them. It's been 3 years now since I have used it and back then I had a couple buddies that I would go with and we would get about 10-13 miles down river from what I recall. We would stop and fish and smoke and drink a beer everynow and then too though so we could have done much more.

Kayak touring and fishing - nothing goes better with a buzz. Especially on quiet, less traveled water around sunrise. So close to nature without a motor. I wouldn't get a big buzz if I'm taking kids as young as yours though. Every now and then I get some folks in for a visit and take them out to play with the gators or fish or both. The kids and the wife held in there for about 3 good years but got bored with my overindulgence. My fault since I would go out for hours at a time and wear them out bad. The kids try to warn the folks who ask me to take them out that I don't know how to do a lazy river kind of thing and that they're gonna be sore as hell.

I have convertible sit-on-tops - they can be used for tandem or single riders. Got a suggestion for you....if you're taking the kids out in their own yaks at that age....bring a tow rope in case the weather turns on you or they get worn out. You are bringing back great memories for me.....

@lwien - congratulations on dropping the excess weight!!!

do you do any strength training? us old guys are losing almost a lb of muscle mass per year. i find a little bit of Bowflex (20min/day/4 or 5day/week) is counteracting that loss for me. another 3 years and i may even have some manly ab definition.

Thanks. I was at 240 about 5 years ago.

I used to be a real gym rat but no more. About 15 years ago I was doing some flys on the pullys and tore some tendons in my shoulder (rotator cuff injury). Didn't keep my arms bent. I've now realized that those injuries never really heal. Had some internal pics taken and the tears are still there so it kinda limits what I can do. Curls, flys, presses are all out of the picture. But.............I can still do pushups so after every run, I spend 15 minutes of stretching along with doing 3 sets of 15 reps of pushups just to keep my upper body in a bit of fair shape.

@lwien - I know what you mean about the rotator cuff. Took pull ups out of the routine years ago. Hated to see them go...they were great for the delts.

The best machine I've ever used for ab definition....Ab-Lounge. The cheap version works great!

When I was in the Navy I sat on a metal box that was 5 feet tall that was next to a metal railing. I could fit my legs between the metal railing and the metal box and slowly lean backwards till my back rested on the metal box. Then I would crunch my way up....that's a count of 1. Lean right, lean left to work the sides. First time in my life I had a six pack....almost went 8 pack. This is great pro-nation for the abs since it works on the way down and the on the way up.

Decades after the Navy one of my kids bought the Ab-Lounge and as soon as I saw it in action I recognized the technique as the one I used in the Navy. It really supports the stretching out of the abs to a more than full extension, causing full ab separation and even gives some minor work to the lower back for those love handles.

I don't usually buy into the 'As seen on TV' thing but the Ab-Lounge and the Perfect Push up provide for a full extension of the exercise without the strain on the joints.

I can still do pushups

hey! i just recently (Jun 1st) added a 100 pushup per day challenge to my fitness routine ... i do 5 sets of 20 reps right now ... i want to get up to Herschel Walker's 750-1500 pushups per day. lol.

i hear you on the poor healing process at this age ... i think the body still does heal, just very slowly.

Wow. And here I thought I was doin' pretty good. Great job......

Yeah, especially tendons 'cause they get such a limited blood supply. I've kinda accepted that my rotator cuff is is what it is and that I just have to limit the things that causes pain but continue with the things that don't.

Tendons expose a lot about a person's true physical age.

Thanks a fucking lot, steama. I didn't need to hear that....:uhoh:.....;)

There was a time that I was battling Achilles tendonitis when I ran. It got so bad that I was limping around all day. Hurt like a son of a bitch. Then I switched my running shoes to a shoe that had a heel/toe offset of about 12mm and whalla............tendonitis gone.

Oh man, ruptured my Achilles tendon, it snapped right in two when bounding up stairs. It sounded like an elastic tie-down snapped in two. Now that tendon always feels weak like it is going to snap again and it is happening to my other Achilles which I know is a sign it can snap at any moment. So Yeah, tendons 'tend' to expose the true physical condition of your bodies tissues. When we hear of athletes rupturing their Achilles it also means they are most likely at the end of their careers. Tendons expose a lot about a person's true physical age.

Yep - Rotator cuff injuries are pretty common after 55. The way it was explained to me was ... Unlike muscle that can be strengthened tendons and such are like blue jeans....they wear out over time no matter how well used. Another factor is the repair...if those blue jeans are worn out it's like trying to stitch up a thread worn pair of jeans. My understanding is that there is no choice but to mend them and hope for the best.

I prefer to think of this not so much as worn out but more like worn well ;)

Yeah, the doc told me that he could repair it thru surgery but there's always the chance that it won't work and could actually end up making the pain worse so I said.........fuck it. By eliminating doing curls, I kind of have it under control. The only time it bothers me now is if I sleep on it.

I was very active up to that point. It changed everything physically for me.

Do you have access to a pool?

Edit: LOL thinking about the younger people reading this thread and thinking, "Fuck, is this what I have to look forward to?"
