longevity of herb

I picked up some herbs from a dispensary 6 months ago and forgot about them. If I grind them up and vape them now, will its potency be lower than when I originally got them? Should I even bother? I would hate to waste a good thing. :(

Another vote on the Cvaults. I have material from over a year ago that is still fresh and ready to vape.

Regarding your situation @spacehobo, it wouldn't hurt to try and see what the effects are. Back in the day I've found ziplocks stuffed in the couch for months and it still got me high. It will taste harsh, but you can always put it in a Cvault for a few days and let it re-humidify (or if you don't want to spend the money, just get a mason jar and some boveda packs).

They will be very dry and somewhat harsh to vape but still retain most of their punch.

Stored properly, like in a Cvault or JyARZ with a Boveda 62% humidity pack, they would be even better than new/fresh as they would have continued with a slow curing process.

I have been vaping some bud that I bought 4 months ago. Depending on how it was stored it may have not lost much potency. I say give it a try. If its not giving you a buzz maybe try to shake what kief is left off and use the kief with something else.

If its dry maybe put it in a glass jar with some apple slices for a few hours?

I wouldn't worry about it. I recently found some in a plastic bag in the back of my safe that is about 2 years old, tastes great and still plenty potent though the color did turn a bit. Unless stored in conditions for growing mold/mildew it's not gonna kill you. I have some buds that are now near 2 years old stored in glass jars with little headroom that seem to be just as good as the day I got them. Some strains seem to lose their color faster (turn more golden) than others for some reason. After decarb (or maybe even during to an extent) the THC breaks down into CBN. Which makes it lose some potency.

Put it into your vaporizer and vape away! Don't throw away your medicine unless it isn't medicine any more (like if you jarred up too wet). Only one way to find out if it is still potent though.

I have mugs here and there I never get around to vaping. About 4 doob tubes that probably take me a month to finish, potency seems to be just as good as day one. I haven't delved into cvault yet, but just zip locks and medicine containers here.

I like the suggestion to just try it and see :leaf:

Earlier this week I found some cannabis that I had stored in a small brown glass jar. It had been in a bag that's been inside my house. So it didn't get hot like if it had been in the car. The ground cannabis had been in there for 9 months or so, maybe longer? don't even know the strain, I hadn't labeled the jar. I thought I would try it and if it tasted terrible I would throw it out. I didn't expect it to be very potent.

I was wrong. It hit like a freight train and tasted fine. Definetly helped the arthritis. The jar that I have has a screwed on lid. It holds probably 2 grams of ground cannabis. I only had one 10 min session.

I'm just going to chime in here and say that the 62% humidity packs are not foolproof to prevent mold. Now they are damn good and the humidpacks work. But, like in life: All organic things eventually must decompose. My buds were good for the first 15 months after cropout. The smell was so much nice because it was cured-as-fuck.

But eventually they got too old and started to break down.

I could've opened the jar a more times (I rarely opened after the first 3 months). Maybe if I aired out the jar more often, then the mold wouldn't have developed? But like I said, this was over 15 months old; it couldnt go on forever.

Maybe if I had let the weed get bone-dry (much lower than 62%) then maybe it would've lasted longer?

... Gonna try some tomorrow...we'll see.:whoa:
Please post about if it's still any good? I have some hard wafer-type hash bits and crumbles from 2012 and 2013 with no sign of mold. Looks like when new and have been wondering about sprinkling on flowers in my herbalAire. Don't think it melted from smoking when fresh...not sure if the H2.2 gets hot enough, though.

I'm moving. I found a chunk of hash while packing. About 2 grams. Hard as a rock. I think it is around 10 years old. It was given to me by a friend I haven't seen in forever.

Gonna try some tomorrow...we'll see.:whoa:
Well, my chunk of hash got misplaced in the move. I had squirreled it away in a box of odds and ends and then promptly forgot where I put it...

I finally found it yesterday and this morning I decided to shave a bit off with a razor blade and have a go at it, wake and bake style.

This decade old hash was wrapped in a tinfoil lined paper from a cigarette package and had sat in a decorative box on my dining room buffet. No protection what so ever.

The vapor was a bit harsh but I may have overheated it a bit, so that is not conclusive. But the high was spot on! No real noticeable degradation in effects. How great is that?

I'll still maintain my otherwise obsessive storage techniques to maintain longevity; vacuum sealed mason jars with bodeva packs stored in a cool, dark location.

But know that old lost and found treasues may still be lively.
