So I'm all set with a legit VTC mini now! updated to V 3.3 :D
You know how I said I ordered the VTwo mini? Nah, I ordered the VTC mini... ha, I'm half tempted to order another one though, because I'm loving this Cleito tank that was in my order (for nicotine)... and loving it with Wattage mode... since I'm used to mech's. I'm just now getting a feel for what TC is all really about. So thanks guys for all that hard work, figuring out the 'M' values and such! Thats great... I didnt get all that till now.... haha. See I began vaping right around the time Wattage mode started coming around.. and i decided to go all mech ( no computer chips , just battery and coil ) .

So I took someone's advice and set M values 255, 245, 235.

Which temps should I set? I got it set at 10W. (using VTC mini). I will experiment, since I know it will depend on the shatter/wax/ect... THANKS everyone :)

^ thats a problem I've been having with the iStick and using the donut too. I'm not sure if I'm setting it too low to begin with and its just melting and im getting a whispy hit? Because, after the first hit @ 290, I look in and its basically spent. I might get one or two more hits but thats it. I've been loading less and trying to hold it flat. Learned that much so far, from here and the hard way--by experiment :)

The 'ideal temperature' seems to vary some with different concentrates but I find 390F (or something like 200C?) is a good starting point and generally works well for me. One of the shatters I tried 'needed' 400F+ to really shine. Ten Watts, however, I don't think it wise.....if TC is working right. It takes 'forever' to reach temperature that way, in fact some of mine won't do it at all when fully loaded. 12 is, IMO a much better value once proper TC operation is happening. It should hit 'protection' in a few seconds IMO.

I assume "iStick" means the TC40W (the Pico, Cuboid and TC100W are also from iStick but are different, very much 'VTC Mini like') where there is no useful 'M' value for the doughnuts available. IIRC you can set it to something like 230F in TC mode and get fair results, but the others are a clear advantage and IMO worth the extra money.

I'm sure you'll enjoy the VTC Mini as you play with it, a solid tool. But, IMO, the Pico might have slight advantages for many. It's a bit smaller, lighter and easier to pocket and hold in your hand and doesn't give up much of use from the Mini (which has a bigger display and options for things like hit count most don't care about In exchange you loose the 'boxy shape', sharp corners and a bit of weight. Put one in each pocket and you'll see what an improvement this can be in such cases.

As a personal aside, since I tend to set the mod up and lock the keys to prevent settings accidentally getting changed having the up and down keys on the bottom of the Pico turns out to be a neat feature. A small point, but one I appreciate when I think about it.

I'd like to thank you guys for all your help. I received my iStick Pico yesterday and it's changed my world. This is exactly the "no-brainer" solution I was thinking of for months.

I'm using it with a Source Quartz Terra that has a ceramic donut. I have no idea what the metal leads material is, but resting resistance is 1.14ohms. I locked that in, set TCR arbitrarily at 245 since I hoped it would be similar to the DT you guys use. Set max wattage at 9.7W. I experimented with different temperature values and found my sweet spot. I'm pretty sure the displayed temp value isn't accurate simply because I don't know the actual metal material and therefore my TCR value is likely off somewhat. Still, it accomplishes my goal of getting a constant set heat without burning or going overboard. At displayed 460F, I'm getting a constant low-mid cloud generation, with good flavour and no burning. I can hit it for 20 seconds and it's still just a constant, smooth hit. Capped at 9.7W in TC mode, it can reach max heating within 1-2 seconds.

I can't say enough about how happy I am. Previously I would sometimes get harsh hits by hitting it too long in VW mode. I would need to carefully monitor how long I hit it, how warm the atomizer stayed during rest, etc. Now I don't have to pay attention at all, I can hit it anytime and for any length of time and still get the same tasty smooth hit.

Glad you like it, even if youre not using it with Matt's version.

Thats what TC is for, so that once its setup and loaded, even a moron can get a good hit. But youll be suprised how many times i pass my mod to someone with the instructions 'hold down this button WHILE you puff on the mouthpiece'

And they then proceed to take the mod in their hand, hold the button down while holding the mod up to my face, (not their lips) "YOU MEAN HOLD THE BUTTON LIKE THIS?" :bang::rolleyes:

Yes, you retard, while you hit it which you are not doing, so youre not melting my hash deep into the base to clog it and release terps for no good reason... (sigh)

But besides common ignorance on how 510 threaded vapes work, i am still surprised how ignorant and cavalier the vaping community is in general towards Temp control vaping. Many of my friends are vaping juice, burning up coils and getting dry hits even though they are using tc-compatible coils on tc mods i have sold them!

Hey, youre using a Ti head and your mod has temp control, why not try vaping in that mode? Id ask him

'Idk what temp setting to use but i know 30w works'

Well just try 200F and go up from there lol! Its not that complicated.

I suspect other vapers shun TC out of a foolish machisimo-bravado, as if dry hits, burn coils and formaldehyde are signs of masculinity. :\ Tc is for pussies....

Anyways.. your source donuts have titanium leads, according to any web store that lists it. Try Tc-ti at 200f and go up till you like it.

Hi, with the dc i've put a screen in the chamber and one in the mouthpiece outside, this little screens come from a storm vaporizer, for thé hot mouthpiece i put a 510 glass driptip on it and it works well, no burning lips. Hope that helps.good vape

We are trying our hardest to become Medical Grade
Manufacturer
Finally got the third rebuild-able prototype this weekend, Its a go, Paul at Sz Crossing tech said 3 weeks about to finish. this is the v3-Large there will be 3 sizes of donuts, this is a 13mm donut the medium will be a 10mm and the current donut size from the v2.5 and v2.7 for the smallest rebuildable v3.
might be headed to China in July to work out the last minute details, should be exciting. this will be my fourth trip China in my life, The other times were for hemp clothing.. MSDS (off gassing tests) will start after i release this, I want to get it out first so we can use it. there could be minor changes to it in the future and we will have the v3.1 and so fourth, until the v4.

Heads up, Friends and Neighbors, great price on Picos!!! Lowest I've seen anyway.

http://www.gearbest.com/temperature-control-mods/pp_341583.html

$22 to $25 shipped depending on color. Sale's good for a few days to a couple weeks depending on color, best check right now if you're interested.

I've bought a few items from these guys with no real problems. Including a Pico a while back that appears genuine in every respect (including packaging).

If you're interested in such things and on the fence this might be a good time to save a third the price and get on board?

And there are two new finishes, an 'all black' (no chrome trim) and 'brushed silver'. Wanna guess what I ordered?

"Get 'em quick before they're all gone".

Looks good, ive had my eye on the brushed silver but im waiting for a US based supplier to carry it.

Is gear best domestically based?

Edit: ok, they are in shenzhen (the actual manufacturing site of nearly all the vape stuff we buy)

But maybe worth the wait for the discount? I got the silver OTW for $24, 6-24 days?

Im guessing OF covets the chrome-less brushed all black

Thanks for the link, the new colours are tempting. I have the Gray one and it doesn't match anything, and the gray finish is rather yellow/green tinged.

The only serious complaint I have on the Pico is the power button. It's too small, squishy without positive feel during contact, and doesn't always work the first time I push it.

Hi some news of my dc test.
I find a method that seems to work with TC on the pico.
I made a beginning seesion in watts mode at 28 w.make 3 t'en seconds preheat and after 3 seconds and a hit after.when tha atty is hot and stable in thé coil, i jump on ti mode and set at 200 c and it works well.
Good vape

I tried out your method for temp control with the DC on one of my picos, but it didn't work for me  It tripped into watts mode around the time it says 200F like usual

I tried following exactly as you say, (and a few other ways) but I'm not clear on exactly what you're doing:

in watts mode at 28 w.make 3 t'en seconds preheat and after 3 seconds and a hit after

So are you warming it up for 10 seconds, three times (30 seconds) in watts mode, or just a single 3 second button press? This is raising the atomizer resistance from around 0.75 to 0.85 or so with just 3 seconds, but over 1 ohm if you warm up 30 seconds. Which one?

tha atty is hot and stable in thé coil, i jump on ti mode and set at 200 c and it works well.

Ok, switching over to TC-Ti mode right after some amount of pre-warming in wattage mode makes the base resistance higher. 200C is around 390F, but my pico jumps back to wattage mode after a few seconds only. TC-Ni acts just the same.

What is the max watts you are using in TC-Ti mode? The same 28w? I tried 25w in TC-Ti after the pre-warm but still phail. :hmm:

So I just got the 2.7 ceramic donut w the "wide mouth" It hits super duper clean. It instantaneously impressed me as the best "wax pen" I've tried. Every one of them taste so metallicy to me.

Here's how mine looks. I really like the elegant look to this..

Question: How much is the right amount to put in this? A bb size? Half a bb? A rice grain?
This mod has no temp control. I set it to 12.5 watts. Am I missing out without temp control? Lastly, at this wattage do I lean on the button to take as long a toke as possible or do I pulse it? How long should I pulse it?

I do notice that if I slow the toke down it barely if at all splattered under the MP

Lots of subjective questions I think, hard to give useful answers? I think, 'load small and often' is the best plan here. Something between .02 and .05 grams in my case near as I can measure. Sub BB size.

The quantity of concentrate to heat makes it very hard to say how you should pulse it to control temperatrue, but deciding how much without 'being there' isn't gonna work I think. It takes my Pico or VTC Mini considerably longer to 'make temperature' when freshly loaded over 'running out'. That's what TC is for, 'feathering the power' automatically so you can concentrate on the hit? Yes, I think it's well worth it, and am sure you will to. We didn't lie to you on the DT, try it you'll love in on cruse control.

Thanks for the response. I do feel like I'm getting some pretty milky clouds at 13.5 watts with 3, short 3-4 second pulses before I put my lips on and then slow sip for about 4-5 seconds and it's perfect pillow of cloud and no mess at all. Super smoothe!! I'm very satisfied with this little stormtrooper (that's what my little set up looks like to me! Pew pew!)

Probably not. Depending on concentrate, dark stuff happens. What does the resistance read? Can't fool that. A burned out doughnut will read twice normal value (say 1.5 Ohms) or open depending on your having lost one or both elements.

OF

Forgive my ignorance, but is the read out the ohms it's states when I simply screw on the atty? My battery hasn't the ability to do temp control. Only watts.

Most display the resistance, they have to measure it internally to set the power level ("Watts") to match that individual atty since they must calculate a voltage to apply.

The value displayed when you screw in the atty (even before firing it off) is the one you want. Normally it's about .7 Ohms.

Often this takes the format X.XX with the Omega symbol rather than "Ohms". If yours doesn't display this, reading it is not going to be an option.......

The COV Minivolt vape displays ohms in its tiny display.

Volteric, dont worry about that crust, thats just normal buildup from use, it can be cleaned off with heat cycling at 11-12w on VW.

Glad you like your new donuts, but if you upgrade to a TC mod, you dont have to worry about feathering or pulsing the button or overheating. TC will also minimize (but not eliminate) the crusty build-ups.

We've been singing the praises of Temp control on nearly every page on this thread for over a year, and TC mods themselves must be over 2 years old in this world. Its surprising to me how many vapers (esp. juice vapers) still dont know about the massive benefits :horse:

TC with 20-25w and you can chase huge milky smooth clouds at an instant of a button press and you will not harm your donut at all.

Do TC at the 'boss approved' 12w and wait about 4 seconds for it to warm, and get similar (albeit smaller) clouds;)
