It's still not shipping yet but they published the manual on the website. Seems like it's pretty straightforward to use. An important takeaway is that the smartphone app is NOT needed to operate the device but it does make it a bit easier and I don't think you can adjust the limited temp range (97-104F) without it.

I haven't.....fml:(
Send them a polite email asking what's up and make sure it's on track. I don't really think it's fair that I got mine shipped before yours if you ordered 4 months before me. Though they may all be shipping within a couple days so it would be less of an issue and if you're in the US you might still get it before me.

Yeah I ordered directly from extractcraft and you ordered from theherbalcompanion so maybe they ordered a bunch before me and you guys got one of those machines?

That could be it. I'm not really sure what the arrangement is between both companies.

My Source is finally here! I plan to do a QWET run this weekend so I'll be able to fully test it out and take pictures and stuff. So far I've just set it up and am running it dry for a bit to test out. Here are my first impressions:
  • The vac pump in the unit sounds about as loud as the pump I use for purging, luckily it only needs to run for under 30 seconds.
  • During operation it makes a Tick-Tock noise which I'm guessing is the heater and there's some fan noise too. If you placed a Grandfather clock next to a tower PC running full load, it basically sounds like that.
  • It's definitely a first gen model, the way the parts are stuck together is a little off and overall it could have used a bit more "polish" on the assembly. I don't think any of it affects usability but it's a bit annoying. Hopefully they plan to make improvements in subsequent iterations.
  • My package was NOT discreet and I'll be mentioning this to them directly. On one entire side of the box there's a picture and description of The Source. There's no mention of cannabis at all and they even included some lavender but I know it's worrisome to a lot of people especially if you get it shipped to work.
  • Setting it to the lowest temp (96F) and running it dry, I recorded a temp of 140F after 30 minutes. Not good. I'll try it with a test run with ethanol to see if it's any different and I'll contact them if it's not. I don't know how it'll affect my end product but I usually like to keep the temp under 100F. Worst case I can probably just cycle the heater on and off as needed.

EDIT: I didn't get a clear answer before but I just measured the capacity and I can fit up to 350ml of solution in the center crucible and the same in the collector. It might be a bit of a pain if you had over a 1-2L but you're saving that much more time plus improving your air quality.

Not yet, I want to get the high temp issue dealt with before running an extraction through it. Just need to find some time to troubleshoot with them.

I found this review online, the product didn't look very good....

That's a problem with their tech, not the machine. Looks like they're just winging it rather than following a proper guide.

Monsoon, have you tried running it with alcohol in the machine yet? Evaporation dissipates heat (think sweat cooling you down) try running it with just Everclear and see what the temps are like.

Also still haven't gotten my shipping email and am very discouraged, I called this weekend and one of the guys who works there said that he thought I was supposed to be in the next batch out and should be expecting an email towards the beginning of the week (No email yet). Still waiting but growing more and more impatient by the day :/

are you saying the app said it was 96 but you tested and it was actually 140?

the packaging thing is crazy wtf are they thinking there  maybe the shipping delay @Pugnomax is experiencing is to get new boxes as I am sure NOBODY is pleased with that package showing up to the office or home

I thought about that too, I tried it with ethanol and got the exact same result.

Yup and and it was still around 140F when the app temp dropped back down to 72F afterwards.

That's worrying how are you measuring the temp?

wow, that blows but at least there is the possibility it can be resolved with a software update, they probably didnt have time to fix it before shipping, big mistake.

also that product they cooked up in the video looked really dark but yea the tech was shite

anyone have any thoughts on finishing the oil in the silicone container like they do in this video??

I know with butane extracts you do not want any residual solvent left when it comes in contact with silicon. I apply the same rules when purging my own ethanol extracts but I do not know for sure it's necessary.

Two Updates:
  • I got an mass email from The Herbal Companion saying they're sending out a new screw-in container as it was causing issues with maintaining vacuum for some people.
  • Apparently my unit has a thermo-calibration issue and needs to be replaced :(
