Magical Butter

Hello all you fine folks I'm new here- but not new to making butter :) I too have purchased a magical butter machine- I've been reading all the MB threads but I'm noticing nobody is talking about the temps they used. So if you respond to this thread please be sure to list your ratio and the tempature used. For example my first batch was 1oz to 1lbs of butter @ 160 degrees. This produced a light colored butter that is mostly THC-A (this is by design BTW) due to the light decarb at 160. I have a high tolerance so I tend to make my butter as strong as possible. I've noticed a common thread between those who's butter came out weak- they all used 160. The 160 temp did not make strong enough butter (mostly THC-A and not activated THC) so I'm thinking of putting the strained butter and the mark (the sludge) back in the MB and running it for an hour at the 220 or 250 temp setting. Has anyone made butter using the 220 or 250 temp setting? How much butter and meds did you use? And for how long at what temp? How effective was it?
Thanks All! Peace
Hi, I was wondering if you ever tied putting your butter and sludge back in and using the 220 setting. I am doing this right now. I made my first batch ever of coconut oil and it was week compared to doing it in the crock pot.

These are the new instructions that the Magical Butter group has developed:

Butter:
1 Hour @ 220
reset
4 Hours @ 160

Oil: (coconut, Olive, Grape seed, etc)
1 Hour @ 220
reset
4 Hours @ 160

Vegetable Glycerine:
1 hour @ 220F
reset
2 hours 250F

Food Grade Alcohol: **Adjust Alcohol volume if you are above sea level** (everclear, Bacardi 151, etc)
4 Hours @ 160 **NEVER OPERATE YOUR MB2 ABOVE 160F for 4 hours doing Alcohol Extraction, you could damage you machine**
Hi, I am new here. I was wondering if in the coconut oil you run it 1 hour at 220 and then run it again at 160?

I've not tried that. Let me know how it turns out. I did save my sludge. I froze it and broke it up. I've been adding it to this and that since making the oil. Pretty potent stuff.

Our member, @Vitolo feels the same way. I'm wondering if this could be because of doing your decarb in the machine. Many of the Magical Butter United group use the oven for their decarb rather than using the machine. Because of the heat up and cool down times during your cycle, you are not getting a full hour of decarb at 220 degrees. Of course, when you decarb in the oven, you usually only put it in for around 30 minutes so this shouldn't matter. But....

My butter is decarbing in liquid state for 12 hours as it is cooking.. with the solid matter losing it's essentials to the butter.
It is clarified for additional time, which is now just the ingredients without pulp, at appropriate temperatures.
I do not use any helpers... lecithin etc.
We each have a style.
One batch of butter, for me requires 12 hours under heat.

I just ran 2oz of bho blasted trim with 2 1/3 cups of coconut oil at 220F for 90 mins. Hoping there may be a lil something left. Will report back, just took 1 tbsp =)

Edit - weak =(

I've used my MB2e and it makes awesome butter and oil but the Tincture which I keep trying to perfect is weak.

I read people talking about a few drops.. It takes a full dropper or more for effects from mine and it doesn't last long.

I've used ABV mostly..Everclear, Lecthin, glycerin for 8hrs at 160 as they suggest.

I'm happy with the other methods but I really want the tincture to be strong as it's the best form for travel for me since I have GI issues.. And it helps take the nausea away. I like with tincture I can control my dosage but I do feel like I'm missing something or doing something wrong. I've done 4 batches in my time of having one and I really want to perfect or figure out how to get the tincture method down that is potent.

Sorry if my problem is an old one. Maybe I should have come in here sooner rather then trying to figure it out myself.. :/

Decarb I heard is not needed with ABV but with fresh it is.

What about herb that has been in a tin for years.. Need Decarb still?

Will only fresh get the best results? (Economically I worry of shelling out and getting weak stuff again :( soo I'm weary)

I think the only way to get the tinctures really potent would be to use a concentrate. You could get the % of the concentrate and quantity after dilution to figure the potency/ml.

2 cups tincture recipe with 3gr 80% concentrate would give roughly 2400mg. 5mg/ml

Thank you for this code.
How cool is this?
Tell you what... if you are on Facebook, you might want to join the Magical Butter Users United group. It's a closed group, but they take most everyone that tries. Not sure if you need a sponsor or not but if you do I'll be happy to help you out. Hit me up by pm. It's a wealth of information. Magical Butter works closely with them and is active on the page. They also have a page of their own.

Decided to jump on board and order a MBM was looking around on line and came across this hight times experiment.
http://www.hightimes.com/read/ultimate-cannabutter-experiment-results

I have never heard of using everclear right after oven decarb? Leaning towards a hour in oven a 220 let it cool couple mins spray with everclear. Decarb again for hour add in MBM then 4 hours at 160.

I read somewhere the best decarb time was 220 for 110 mins. I figure the hour in oven then another hour in MBM is close to that target.

Thoughts on this ideal?

Depends on what you're making. If you are making a tincture that's exactly what you would do.

The machine itself does not do a good job of decarbing unless you use the low and slow method which takes 3 days. Opinions vary on the 'correct' time for decarb in the oven; they can be anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour depending on the person. I tend to err on the side of caution and don't leave it in for a whole hour. If you read back a couple pages on this thread, you will see other members's opinions on this. Two members I tend to think know their 'stuff' with this machine are @killick and @MrNaturalAZ . Perhaps search this thread for their posts and get some ideas from them.

Personally, I have started using the low and slow method for extraction.

I guess I was not clear you use coconut oil as your base. After decarb you spray the cannabis with everclear. The Scientific Cannabutter experiment in link explains reasoning for this.

Interesting. I can honestly say that I've never seen or heard of using Everclear before now. It would appear they used it instead of lecithin.

@momofthegoons What was the three day slow method with the MB? I've been using the @MrNaturalAZ method of decarbing and seems to work well. I let mine process in the cooking processing phase for 4 hours. I just start it back up so it can continue to process.

I don't do Facebook.

You take 1 - 2 oz. of herb and combine it with 1 lb. of melted butter in the MB machine. You can use coconut oil if you prefer. Set the machine to 160 degrees and run for 8 hrs. Repeat the cycle. Let rest at room temp overnight. Repeat the two cycles at 160 for 8 hours the next two days. After three days, cool, strain and pour 1/2 c. of butter into each section of a muffin tin or in 2 oz. containers and freeze until solid. Store in a ziplock in the fridge or freezer until ready to use.

This method does not need decarbing prior.
