What to do with trim

Thanks. I do not want to make edibles from my trim as the avb I accumulated fucks me up and I seem to build up more than I can eat. Iv decided on isohash. Have all trim and jars an 99.7 iso in freezer ready to go. I like the idea of micron bags and dry ice but them things are not readily available in uk. Iso 99 was hard enough to find.

Any iso tips welcome .do i need the double boiler. Can I just evaporate at room temp
No double boiler needed. It can be done at room temp with a fan blowing over the surface area of your evap dish.

I do recommend adding some heat near the end of the purge, as the alcohol evaporates, the oil will form a skin or matrix at the surface, adding heat will loosen the matrix by increasing viscosity, ultimately allowing the residual alcohol escape.

1) Minimal contact time regarding the ISO wash (QWISO = Quick Wash)

I used to make this quite often..

I count out loud 30 seconds maximum contact time on your first wash, this includes pouring time.

2) Be extremely gentle again at first, just use a very light swirling motion for the first wash. Then like the Dry Ice Method, increasing in shaking and contact time in small increments.

3) use a series of filters, starting from bigger holes to finer holes, then the coffee filters.
**you do not want to have any material in the coffee filter as it's draining **

4) Dab the coffee filter(s) with fresh alcohol beforehand, this will decrease the drainage time

5) Wash up to 3-4 times, keeping each wash separate.

I'm a bigger fan of bubble, especially when there is a lot to work with. Though, I've made iso before, and it turned out great. Take caution with evaporating concentrates. The fumes can be very dangerous. Good luck!

Herb gardener...
Thanks everyone I got my coffee filters today so I am all ready to go tomorrow. I will update how it goes. Thanks again.

It's all a massive learning curve. Maybe one day I'll be the one advising.

A lot of good advice in this thread.. For trim and small buds, I recommend getting a fine screen (something like what would go in a screen door)..
Place the trim and small popcorn buds in the freezer (this removes moisture and makes the herb break up very fine).
Remove from the freezer and sift the trim and small buds over the screen. Do this on a mirror or marble countertop. Somewhere that you can easily scrape the trichomes up with a card.
Now you have resin glands (kief) that can then be pressed into hash or used to top off a bowl in your vape..
It might not be as potent as BHO but it is old school and doesn't have the "crackhead" vibe to it like a torch and nail set-up.. Nothing wrong with that but I learned from old school guys... Dab rigs don't vibe with me.. I won't turn down cannabis in any form but I much prefer solventless concentrates.
I may have to take a trip down under to visit @herbivore21 and try out his hash oil though.. I read his posts on here frequently and respect his knowledge and attitude!

$5-10 of supplies ($2-3 hair iron from Good Will + $2 parchment paper + micron filter for kief) and you can get to pressing kief into rosin. Some lab tests I've seen from SC Labs have tested rosin upwards of 80%+ THC and ~2-3x the terpene percentages compared to BHO! On the other hand the rosin is also testing a lot higher in "active cannabinoids" so decarbing is occurring to an extent. Low temps and high pressures should minimize that.

Yup my man here has some relevant points. Squishing kief is a good idea, I definitely don't get the yields I'd get from bubble squishing with kief, but it beats buds for sure.

Also I too have followed test results of rosin for some time, it appears that between 7.5-15% of the total THC/THCA content of rosin extracts will be decarbed THC. Generally, we only see up to 5% at the most in solvent extracts.

However, the terpene content is another question. I have definitely seen similar terpene levels to rosin in the very best solvent extract test results. Xtractology for instance can have a number of solvent extracts regularly test up to 7% terp content IME. Of course, most middle of the road decent extracts from solvent tek are not gonna have the same terp content.

Still, rosin is gonna have more terps FOR SURE than most solvent extracts. Case in point though - my latest Cluster Bomb rosin from 90/120 micron bubble is incredible, clearly terpier than a lot of my solvent extracts from cluster bomb nugs. I have also got some cluster bomb live resin from far less mature nugs that tastes better still than said rosin - and benefits from having been completely dewaxed and stronger than glass shatter (I prefer bhombing to dabbing)!

Cheers for the super kind words there brother! You are most welcome any time, flattery will get you everywhere ;) lol

I was a huge kief consumer before I turned my attention to solvent extractions (and more recently, coming full circle back to solventless before combining the best aspects of both approaches).

Tell me, as @Quetzalcoatl suggested, how are you with the idea of squishing dabs out of kief? You'll have yourself a great solventless oil then ;) I understand torches and nails are not for everyone (me included), but we live in a day and age where you can get a cheap enail controller (Auber have one for $70 usd or so IIRC) and a SiC nail with 1.3 base and carb ($190 usd or so) to go with it for similar prices to what you'd pay for a mid range priced vape.

Moreover, I respect your decision to stay away from solvents, I actually believe that a lot of people making concentrates with solvents should have stuck to solventless tek for the sake of health, safety and quality. There is no shame in saying that one is not qualified/confident that they can remove all of an extraction solvent from their concentrates and save for the best solvent extractions made by the most skilled of extract artists, rosin is often much better anyway :)

Even if you aren't so keen on this dabbing, rosin in a convection vape on SS wool or a concentrate pad will be incredible nonetheless :)

Cheers! I definitely like the idea of this.. I've read a little about rosin on here but to me concentrates are nearly unexplored territory. East coast USA does not see much hash of any kind. Dry sift kief/hash and bubble hash is the most popular form IME..

I don't really mind the idea of torches and nails.. But in regular use prefer to keep things simple. Rigs seem as cumbersome to me as a novelty 3 foot bong.. Lol I was always happy with a nice glass spoon as a smoker..
Making rosin to use in a convection vape seems like a good idea!

Ohhhh you don't tend to use glass in general? That makes perfect sense! Definitely convection vaping concentrates will be great for your needs then man, I look forward to hearing how you go with it :)

Also needless to say if you want any advice in your squishing, duck over to the rosin thread or shoot me a PM :)

Yeah.. I have a waterpipe adapter for the Air but haven't bought any glass.. I may get into it at some point. I'm looking at getting a Lotus which may also lead me to glass adapters and water tools.
But I've been hitting direct draw with every vape.. SSV or DBV for the past year.. I switched to the Air because I prefer a smaller bowl and direct draw for personal use

My stash is low right now but sometime I hope to have a way to try this rosin technique..

Yup, just need a Hair Straightener or Flat iron (Same Thing different names)

And parchment paper.

A vice would be a great asset in adding more pressure , but not necessary .

I have fine mesh

Dry sift?

I highlyrecommend checking some YouTube videos regarding Dry Sift technique if you have access to fine mesh.

Edit; Pure or near pure Glandular Heads in the Vape will literally ring your bell, your ears will ring, precipitation of sweat glands will open along your forehead, and the taste is nothing short of a miracle.

If you are looking for the easiest means of utilizing your trim.

I'd recommend getting started with a simple bubble bag dry ice extraction.

However, there are some steps to take to get you different grades of Hash.
Start with a 160 micron bag, and place your trim inside.

Sinch the bag closed and place the bag inside a cooler with dry ice inside, place more dry ice on top of the closed/sealed bag.

**We don't want the DI contacting the material just yet **

Let it sit overnight or for a few hours.
During this time, the Trichomes will become very brittle and easy to separate from the stalk.

You will need a large (preferably glass) table.

Remove your bag from the cooler and gently shake your bag over the table for about two minutes or less.

This will be your "A Grade" headstash.

Return the bag back into the cooler and repeat the process whilst increasing the shaking motion with each following shake you'll have your "B and C Grades"

Finally, add the DI directly into the bag with your trim and shake like crazy, this will be your "cooking grade" material.

You could go straight to the last step, and just shake VERY GENTLY for 30 seconds for your A grade.
Then do the same process to collect the remaining Trichomes. ..

Again, work in increasing increments of shaking.

A grade..

B grade...

Edit; C grade in smaller jar, and Cooking grade on the right in the larger jar.

I just wanted to come back to this post, as I missed a rather helpful tip.

The use of a a bucket or two.
To gather the above kief...

I did everything as stated in the original post, however...

For the last run, in which the majority of the yield was obtained, I put my D.I. in a bucket with the trim.
I then put my 160 micron bag over the top over the bucket, so the mesh is located at the top of the bucket as opposed to the traditional water sieving position.

This pulls the mesh taut, pulling the holes to open to let only particles smaller than 160u through the bag.
Then you simply flip the bucket over, and we have essentially created a huge pollen shaker.
Side note ** I wish prohibition didn't hinder the correct terminology regarding Canna-Botany..
Kief is not pollen, and pollen is not kief.

The term pollen catcher/ shaker was introduced into the Cannabis community to get around draconian law.

You could also use this tech from the start, quality will suffer however.

So, theoretically you could do this tech, shake gently for 30 seconds, collect this for A grade, and once again, simply increase your contact times and shaking aggression in increments, creating more grades of hash.

One of these days, I want the Tumble Now, "Set it & Forget it "

Is it OK to vape trim?

Usually, I get some shake to get me through hard times (and it's actually fine for me).
Now, times are even harder, and I have an opportunity to get some trim. Can I use trim like I do shake, or will it give me headaches or is it in some way not safe?

Vaping trim is diabolical...........

Full of chlorophyll and waxes and loads of other horrible tasting shit...
There is no way to make trim taste nice to vape...

You can't polish a turd as they say.....

But you can roll it in glitter.....
Iv just made some really nice shatter from some trim.....

Once you extract the important bits, they taste good, but the leaf that's left is waste really...

And once it's been solvent stripped, you wouldnt really wanna put it into edibles....

But yeah, I'd extract....

OK, thanks.
Is it just taste that matters, or is it bad for me?
If it just tastes bad, I'm game for giving it a try, but I don't want to inhale a bunch of stuff that would be harmful.

It will probably give you a saw throat if you vape enough of it..... But I don't think it will harm you.....

There are many ways of turning it into something really nice.... you should look into it...

OK, thanks. I can totally appreciate that, and I may do that at some point. I'm just looking for the quickest, easiest, simplest way of getting meds out of some really cheap trim at this point, and unless anybody speaks up and says it is harmful, I think I'll give this a try.

We have all been dankrupt at one point or another in our lives. Do what you gotta do. Like they say "It gets better!"
There is basicly 10% of goodies on leaves compared to bud. Concentrating those goodies (Magic Butter 2) is best but time, security, finances all dictate our decisions.

Easier to shake whatever kief is on the trim off, and vape that. Less plant matter and more trichome to plant matter ratio!

Is it OK to vape trim?

I say yes. I was once gifted trim and used it in a pinch.

I dried it out so it was crumbly and then vaped it through plenty of water. The idea was to get it super dry to get all the water/chlorophyll out. I packed more than usual because it has less resin than the flowers. I also limited myself to only 2 hits per load to keep things pleasant. The flavor was quite nice as long as I didn't cook it down too far. I'd skip large fan leaves. Ya really just want the stuff a trimmer removed around the flower to make it pretty.

Well that was my run in.. or maybe it was a run out?

Does the trimmings need to be dried before using the "shaker-in-freezer" method?

Does anyone know of a cheap Chinese vendor of micron screens? I'm thinking of making my own shaker.
