That looks like it was a natural flaw in the wood, rather than a new crack. I can see where it's depth changes.
I don't think that that line will change at all.
Very beautiful Zap, by the way.. I love the way it sort of flares open.. beautiful!

Thank you Vito. First day in and I'm already thinking about how to get my collection on par with yours.

THC Muscle- I was trying to decide between this one, the redwood (now yours), and the walnut. You beat me to the punch on the rw, so it made my choice a little easier lol. Think I'd be happy with all of them.

SD_haze- What I do with, is soak with the ISO. Dry with a paper towel, shake it a few times, then wait 5 mins. The ISO evaporates and after the 5 min. wait, I assume it's all gone since I can't smell it. Adding water into the mix, just seems like it would take longer to dry.

The standard rap on the crack issue is "wood is wood". It will change with time and other factors like humidity and.......especially.....HEAT. We are cranking up alot of heat in a small piece of wood all the time with any log vape. Cracks can happen over time with wood. Cracks can happen just shipping through different heat/humidity environments. Wood is 'alive', even when it is 'dead' in the minds of us earthly humans. Holes bored in the wood will change with heat and time. Ship a nice piece of wood from Tuscon to Seattle or Atlanta and watch out. Wood is alive.
The crack in your CRZ looks more like a defect than a crack. It may stay exactly as it is now or not. We really do not know. Only time and use will tell.
105take2011.jpg

This beautiful Cedar CRZ was shipped and developed a small crack near the top that apparently has not changed as I have not heard back from the customer in a few weeks. She filled it with some matching wood putty, re-sanded and shined it up. On the other hand we have had a serious crack or two that literally popped the unit in half. But that is the point...........we will deal with whatever comes up with the wood. Sometimes the customer wants to keep it if the crack is not bad, sometimes they want to switch out for another. We had another cross grain turned walnut that developed a lateral crack near the top which I replaced. When we took it apart, a slight twist in the hand popped off the entire top.
The heat is tough on wood, especially highly figured wood with grain stress going every which way. We are actually VERY happy with our results on this issue. Take a look at our sold gallery. I have had to replace less than a handful so far. Not bad and should be getting better because we are learning all the time and making subtle changes to minimize cracking regularly.
The wood we are using sure beats plastic or polished aluminum in our book. We will of course replace your Black Locust CRZ if you desire Magic9.
On another subject related to the 'season', I have upped the discount rate on our FC discount code, effective through Dec 20. A regular CRZ is a bit over $170 now with the discount. This is my way of doing a Christmas 'special'. The discount applies to the entire shopping cart. We will also be doing a surprise or two over the next couple weeks. Some of that "OH WOW!" stuff everybody likes. In the meantime, the beauties already up on the website are an excellent bargain for a dependable log vape. Remember, these are built for 24/7 use. We are doing the pretties that will last, even on 24/7/365.
I will also again repeat. Take a few more pulls from the stem and they will stay very cleaner. People are leaving gooey goodies in those stem tips so they need cleaning more. Suck that stuff out the first time. No, the later pulls are not as nice and sweet and tasty as the first 2-3 but they are still good.
Funny how over the years the goo is picking up. Good news. Better quality available in more places. Good for us humans.
Compressed air from a can is pretty wimpy. We have always had air compressors in the shop so that is what I relate to when I say 'blow it out with compressed air'. Like 120+PSI instead of just a little pressure in a can. Set the empty stem in the heated Zap for a few minutes and the small amount of water should evaporate.
These are food grade nylon vapor stem handles, same as used in the original Eterra, not polycarbonate BTW.
Damn wordy here in Zapville this AM.

I love the mini whip to! I think Rick is on to a winner with that idea.
My grrlfriend rarely grabs the glassware since she discovered the whip gives thick cool hits by itself.

Rick- Thank you for your offer to exchange. I have no doubt you guys take care of any problems. That's how you got the reputation of having outstanding customer service. With that said, I don't know what to do. I assume the "split/crack" occured during shipping. It's not in the sold picture on the website, and I noticed it about 10 mins after having plugged it in, so I dont' think the heat did it.

It doesn't really bother us aesthetically since it doesn't really stand out. It is a beautiful unit that works great. Freight-train really is the best way to sum it up, both construction wise (really solid) and performance (really solid also). Our concern comes from the durability. I can see this thing lasting many, many years. I just don't want the crack/split to turn a 5-10 year unit into a 1-2 year unit. Since my knowledge of wood is about 0 (more of a plant guy), could you take a look and make a suggestion of whether or not to exchange?

In depth review coming soon, but in short, I found the perfect vape for us. This thing is great. I do have 2 questions still though.
1) Do I remember reading about a 1 month "break in" period?
2) Does the unit sometimes feel warmer/cooler to the touch? Might just be my hands or the ambient room temp, just wondered if anyone else noticed this?

Magic9, IMO, the 1 month break in period applied more to the old version Zaps. This one performs pretty well right out of the gate. And yes, the unit does feel warmer some times than others; at least mine does. I'm thinking it probably is an ambient temperature thing, although it could be a decline of need from that particular wall outlet. I've noticed that the same thing happens with my older Zaps too.

Don't know what to say about the crack/groove in your CRZ. In the first two pics, it looks more like cracks. In the second, more like grooves. I know Rick will take care of you, whatever you decide. You could live with it a while and see if it gets worse if it's not affecting the performance.

Wow. The grain in that Zap you have, Magic9, looks really nice. Shame it's decided to split. I want nothing more than to own one of these. Currently trying to pick between Tom & Rick's products, and attempting to gather the funds for such a purchase. My financial situation leaves me strictly limited with regard to excess cash... I've been surfing these forums for awhile, but that's a lot of money ($150+) that I don't have and likely won't have for some time. Still, it's nice to look, and I keep hoping that something will work out!

Buying new, of course, would be ideal for the craftsmen and a generally superior transaction, IMHO. At this point, I might have to settle for gently used, if I can even find something fair in the classifieds realm. I'm a sucker for beautiful grain - some of the things I see people selling are just too plain plain.

Hi Vitolo! I'd just like to say I've seen your videos on Youtube (they actually led me to this website :)) and I think you seem to be one cool cat! Enjoyed watching you display the vapes and get stoned and laugh the whole time... certainly got a kick out of it. Keep it real, brother!

Another epic video Vito. Love to see that there is a way to use the Zap with oils and concentrates. That Mabel deserves a star on her dressing room door.

Hey Rick,

I saw saw some pages back you asked about input for your site, I had a few ideas:

1: Get some of the most beautiful to-date RZ's on the home page. To the casual browser it might seem apparent that those older aromazaps on the home page reflect the current product. I know a nice lineup of some of your Sumos, Redwoods and Walnuts on the front page would really get me excited if I was a first-time viewer.

2: A few photos of RZ's next to every day items (cell phone, coke, laptop). It would seem that the some of the current RZs are some of the smallest log vapes available, but that's not very apparent just surfing the site.

3: Some above-horizontal plane photos, for some reason when ever I was shopping for the perfect RZ I wanted to see what it looked like from a 45deg-downward angle. Maybe I'm just picky...

4: You may have some trade secrets that are withholding your from doing this, but I think a "how a zap is made" page would be awesome. I'd love to see every step and every component that goes into a zap.

5: Thread name change? Would be cool to see Aromazap/Rockzap, since that IS the current model. Some people may be unware of the recent change.

Can't wait for my redwood! I'll be sure to take some great pictures as well as vapor videos.

Mom- Thank you for great info.

Vito- As much as I love Mabel, I know you love her way more. I appriciate the offer, but I couldn't do that to you.

Mundi- Welcome to the forum. I know it's hard to part with the money, but these things are most definitely worth it. Can't speak on the others as I have not tried, but I have no trouble recommending the CRZs. Best money I've spent in a long time.

Preliminary review:

Arrived today, took a week from order date (it was shipped 24 hours after, but USPS messed up shipment so it came a few days later than expected - but still very quick).

Much much smaller than I anticipated. Its skinner and shorter than a pop can. This was an awesome surprise. I leave it on my desk now and it blends right in. The wood is a very rich walnut and it looks like a desk ornament. It also looks a little too simple to look like a vaporizer so you can just leave it out (for anyone concerned about being stealthy).

I have a microgram scale I can use to weigh how much I pack into a bowl, but until I find that, let me tell you, its tiny. About half a dime ^ (picture two posts up) can have you blowing out 3 thick clouds and one weak one. I still don't have perfect draw technique, but I've had whips before as well as a volcano (im familiar with vapor hits) and its a very very light inhale. Just so you can feel a warm air tickle on your throat, exhale, and theres a pretty thick vapor cloud. This rockzap gets thinner hits than a buddah vape and fewer hits than a volcano. It seems as though I can get 3 really decent hits out of one stem. A volcano bag seemed to give me more vapor per one session, but it isn't a big difference as I can just do another stem. For me - its perfect. Its a small beautiful desktop personal vape. I can take a hit or two every 30 minutes to an hour and keep a constant nice feeling, where I can still do ochem and focus or I can do a couple of stems and start feelin good ;)

Awesome job rick!
I could not be happier with my purchase.
First log vape I've ever had, could not be more impressed.

I can't say anything that hasn't already been said, so I'll try to keep it short.

Appearance: This thing is beautiful (black locust). Very comfortable leaving out as a diffuser. Fits right in. Simple elegance. The pictures do not do it justice.
xE2ga.jpg

5sWLO.jpg

uBNaB.jpg

Feel: Feels just as smooth as it looks. Oddly enough, I seem to take great joy holding it. I was concerned that it would be "too" small. Nope. Perfect size. Decent weight. Feels solid.

Ease of use: Pretty simple. I just take a pinch, put in stem, take a pull to secure it, and into the heat it goes. I've found it hits pretty easily as long as it's not too tight. Blows out really easy for collection.

Effectiveness: Very much so. The stem holds varying amounts. You can get a decent cloud about 1/4 full. Or load it up for big clouds. A stem or two to get started, then very easy to maintain. It doesn't get the abv as dark brown as the HA, but other than by looking at it, I can't tell. Will save it to reclaim, and that just adds to the next point.

Efficiency: It does a lot with very little. I've been using it constantly (testing purposes of course), and haven't used any more than smoking. Once I settle in, I see using less.

Cons: Every product has a downside. The stems screens could be finer. I get a little pass through with a fine grind. The power cord could be a foot or two longer. It may not work well for big groups (although with good quality, it should work well), huge cloud chasers (why would you want them any bigger?), and may not work well with low quality product (don't know, not testing). They are so unique, you will want more.

Final thoughts: This is exactly what I've been looking for. It fits our needs so perfectly, I can't see the need for another vape. Except for maybe a few more CRZs. With it's solid build, and no parts to break (except the power cord), it should last a long time. It performs extremely well. It blends in. It looks good. I would recommend this to anybody. We haven't combusted since we got it. It's always ready. Well worth every penny.

Rick, thank you for an awesome product. If you said you were closing shop, I would order 20 just for the peace of mind knowing I'd have a RZ for life.

Yes placetime, CRZ does stand for Ceramic Rock Zap. vtac just hasn't had a chance to update the acronym thread. Sorry Mundi. I know how frustrating that can be. When I first started working in the education "industry" the teachers, etc. would throw out acronyms all the time. It was their way of making you feel like you didn't know what you were talking about. Fortunately, in this forum, people don't act that way. Just ask if you have questions or we haven't made ourselves clear. :D

Some real nice reviews peterloveslubey and Magic9. Glad to hear you like your Zaps. ;)

Wow! Lots going on here in the last day or so. We got a crack, some good advice, some super reviews and an old guy with lungs that just wont quit.

NYC, nice shot of the GonG tapered short stems. I see you received slightly different sizes. I can do them very short now, down to an inch or so on the stem portion. I actually had to exchange a couple of them to a customer because the originals were too short. The depth of the heatport from the top of the wood varies in CRZs so sometimes real short is too short. Glad you like them and thank you for showing them and the nice vid.
Magic9, I think your crack in that black locust Zapit is in the 'sold' gallery) will stay right there. If it grows, you are covered for a long time. Rest easy because if you want to trade it out at some future date, we will do that. We eat the cracked wood around here if it needs eating, not the customer. And what a sweet review you made. We like our screen mesh.(maybe you should grind a bit coarser?) Any finer mesh and the stems will clog up quicker plus a finer screen will slow the air flow slightly. I also very much appreciate your website tips to us for a better job showing these babies off. All of the suggestions are excellent. We will get to that stuff soon......maybe. I say maybe because by now I know me pretty good. I am a scattered guy. Some things in our life I pay very close attention to, like making and shipping the quality product we do and the related customer service. The finer tuning of that process often escapes me. Other things going on around the place and getting old can be an excuse but really it is just lazy Rick. Lots of webwork yet to do and tweaking my picture taking routine are always part of our 'inbox'. There are many areas I can improve and I do appreciate the reminders. Sometimes it is just damn fun to sit on my lazy ass and be a space cadet. Part of the balance the Universe allows me to have. So happy to see another crazy CRZ Zapisto.
Peterloves, I love those pictures you posted, especially the third one. Excellent review. Many folks are surprised at how small these units are. Most are in the 3 3/4" to 4 1/4" height range and are 2" to 2 1/2" in diameter. We are currently working on a mini series that we can pull down to 3 1/2" and under height and slightly over 2" in diameter. We are doing this for all you glass/water folks. Apparently many of you like to use the log vape with glass. Like a little vapor generator, the smaller the better. Duh Rick. And thank you for your fine review of the CRZ. They are very efficient at extracting vapor from small amounts of herb, a very important benefit in todays world. Anything to make the dollars go a little further is a good thing. We do not try to compete with the massive cloud devices but we can get close. Ours is also a 24/7 vape as most of you know. Ready to go any time. We have designed it that way. Nice wood but protected from the heat damage as much as is possible in such a small unit.
Vito, what can I say? You got some super lungs there. And what a simple easy way to vape the oil. Who woulda thunk, a Q-tip of cotton that just blows out when done. How many hits do you get off a little ball of that stuff?????? Thank you again for your input on our thread and for all the good work you do in Arizona for MMJ patients. We think the CRZ is a perfect fit for MMJ patients who need vapor, not smoke, AND in a very efficient delivery device. For those who do not know, Vito offers CRZs in Arizona to medical patients at a discounted price. He keeps an inventory on hand for instant delivery of Zaps to MMJ patients. We all say "Thank you Vitolo".

And mom, you are very special in so many ways. You always jump in to help which is greatly appreciated. I have been answering these questions for over ten years and sometimes I get slow or put off answering. You are always there ready to help, as are Vito and others. Your words are extra soothing. Must have something to do with your wisdom, developed so well with each passing year. Thank you so much for being a part of Zapville. We need to get another car for the Zap train. One of those luxury cars with the soft seats and upper level domes to watch the super view. Sweet ladies(and a man or two) serving you the best food and drink and herb for total enjoyment. Like a spa on wheels without the spa. Talk about things to think about! Now I can sit on my lazy ass and dream about that scene for hours!
That is it for now except we all better enjoy the USPS delivery while we have it. Looks like our delivery times will slow a day or two next year. They still beat all the other shippers for under 2 pound packages delivered anywhere in the US. Even over 2 pounds anywhere for under $11(flat rate box), all with pretty good tracking.

More Redwood and Walnut beauties up on the website last night. We will try to keep a better selection up at all times so you all have an even tougher time deciding on the beauty of your choice.

Time to also announce that Blisssville is also carrying CRZs on their website. Ariel of Blisssville is very much into Aromatherapy in a serious way. She plans to add some very special Aroma concoctions to her Zap offerings. Our thanks to all who made this possible. http://www.blisssville.com/index.php?cPath=61&osCsid=05ier2oags22j44o2e1dvn7h52
