Gone but never forgotten.....(broken glass thread)

Tipped this guy over a while back, has been sitting in the closet ever since. I wanted to look into getting some hxtal, but realized it's a bit out of my price range (more than the original cost of the piece, and I don't own a lot of glass so the investment doesn't make sense right now.) So I went the cheap route and taped it up. I was fortunate that only the receiver was cracked in the fall. Here it is in all its ugliness. I don't intend to use it much, but it will be nice to have a functioning backup piece.

We had some good times in the short six weeks we were together. You lived life to the fullest and were taken far too soon:cry:.
And to think just two more days and you would have met the new Nano:cry:. Its hard to believe one small slip in the bath is all it took:cry:. I'm sorry I'm to broken up to continue:cry::cry::cry:

EDIT:
Looks like some one got a new lease on life with the help of some whip tubing:). Can't wait to try it tonight.

Had to come back and update ... I happen to do all kinds of flooring and have a wetsaw. And never put two and two together :ko:, rofl. My baby is back! Now I just have to buy some other rig and chop the top mouth peice off that sucker and slap it onto mine with some glue, and it'll be brand new again :p

Now I get to customize the mouthpiece, so it turned out to be a good thing after all ...

anyone who wants to see the before picture ... it's on page 8 in this thread.

Unfortunately the glue can't save this one...

but a Heath Robinson mouth-piece will eke out a big more life out of her till a replacement comes...

Very nice use of ashcatchers. Reminds me of setups @ataxian uses.

There's a lot of black in and under that bowl. Was hoping it was a carbon filter? Just in case let me say... FUCK COMBUSTION.

You have to see my latest set up!
FC187 + Tornado Action Glass Collector + 18mm FEMALE coupler.

SKYWALKER OG = Max Flight

I broke so many A/C's, Water Pipes,
Bubblers, GonG's, Adapters!

And Stems? Do They Count?

Of all the shit I've broken, the amount I break has dropped so exponentially since saying FUCK COMBUSTION.

My most utilized pieces now include much more wood and metal than I ever would have when I was a smoker. I use Lotus metal pipes with wood caps, Nanos and Hammers with Eds stems when traveling, and and pretty much leave all glass at home when I am out.

I think we should re-name the site FUCK TOBACCO! instead of FC - Since I started vaping I have cut down tobacco (99.9% reduction!) - but do still like to have the occassional bowl of PURE herb...!

The broken FC1000 with modified mouth-piece made out of Arizer EQ Elbow, Tubing and straight connector.

Hits are Awesome on this set up... Will also be posting to the Custom Designs thread...!

My worst breaks were Banjo pieces (yes that is plural)

He was my favorite glass blower and I started buying his works in the early 2000s, I had no clue he was to become legend.

...Fuck I miss those pieces so much!

Well this is definitely a throwback to about 12-15 years ago...
I just found a cashed pic of the first glass piece I ever bought off the internet.

I absolutely loved this one, drove it everywhere in high school, dad destroyed it while I was packing it for my Senior Prom... glass work has advanced so much in this arena, but at the time this piece totally blew me and my friends away.

It was originally bought from www.colorchangingglass.com, to my knowledge out of business now.

I hoped I would never have to post in here, but today it happened.
I tipped over and broke my favourite piece - the original Vertigo tree I won in the contest.
This one was sooo perfect to attach on my modular setups and also awesome on its own, now it's dead.
:(:(:(
I think this is repairable, but I have no idea where I could get it repaired in here.
I guess GonGs are way more popular in US.
In here everyone including glass blowers would just go "what's a GonG?" on me. I hope I'm wrong.

Man, this piece is so irreplaceable. I really want to reapir it, but after all the searching, I could only find few places that make windows, that's all about glass in here.

I've fixed ones worse than that with glass glue, as long as the breaks are fairly clean with no glass dust or tiny shards.

Most Glassblower won't know what a GonG is because I've never heard a glassblower, scientific or art, refer to a ground glass joint as GonG. The term is great for us vapeheads because we can differ between the various materials we use for joints but isn't used in the industry as far as I know. Try again and call it a ground glass joint this time. You want a conically taperd joint, EU size would be 19/26, not so sure about US sizes (or what size the old joint had). First number is the outer diameter, second number is the joint length, both in mm. ;)

I'm not sure if I'd feel good with a glued joint. According to the loctite page it shouldn't be used in "Assemblies which will be exposed to temperatures over 176°F (80°C)". Now I have no clue if, for example, my Nano could create temps that high in that area, but I'd rather not find out. Maybe I'm just paranoid though.

^^ This dude knows better than I, for sure.

Still, I can't imagine the female joint getting that hot. In the setup in my avatar pic, the bowl gets hot but that joint below never gets beyond warm.

Yeah same here, I highly doubt the joint will get that hot. Still, I'd try to get it fixed up first before I try anything else and usually, after a fix attempt, there is nothing else you can do for your piece anymore. Either it's fixed or it turned into a pile of shards.

@Seek
Are you in the US or EU?
If US: I've heard lots of good things about "A Glasswork Orange". They are located in Santee, California and specialize in repairs.
If EU: PM me what country you are in. I am at the 2nd European Flameoff next month so I should get a lot of new glassblower contacts. Maybe somebody there can help you.

Thank you for offering helpful contacts. I appreciate all of help.
I live in EU, Czech Republic to be exact.
I tried to pm you, but you've some security set up on your profile that prohibits me from starting a conversation with you or visiting your profile.

Breaking any of my vapexhale glass was my nightmare.

Because I don't know any glass blowers at all, especially in EU.
I'd really appreciate any useful contacts.
It's the only option.
I can't glue it because the joint is shattered and the EVO male joint get very hot.
It couln't be used directly and I just don't trust glue.
And I can't replace it because they're not made anymore.
Nor any piece similar enough that could be as perfect to put on top of stackable bong.

If there is any other piece with an 18mm unguarded input from a bottom, a good percolator, splash-guard and an ice-catcher, then I'd love to hear about it, but I'm pretty sure there is no piece other than this Vertigo HT matching this description. Maybe in US, but i doubt in EU where finding ANY HT is extraordinarily rare.
