Is Thc oil supposed to have a chemical after taste?

First the flavor, then the buZzz settles in....
Hello everyone, my friend recently intriduced me to vaping marijuana oil. So off from his recommendation I went and bought an atmos rx bullet vape pen so I can start vaping the oils.

I was pretty stoked at first, due to the portability and the stealth that the pen provided, I also liked the high that the pen was able to provide, but I then got dissapointed because I noticed that while vaping I would get this chemical after taste. So I stopped using the pen for fear that it would affect my health.

I am new to this, but is this chemical after taste something normal? Is this chemicals I am actually inhaling and tasting? Ive read on the internet that it could either be the oil or the pen. The oil is from platinum vapes and the boast that the oil is CO2 extracted.

Im not sure if I am getting this taste because the atmos pen is on the lower quality side. I have tried looking for information online but there is not much information.

I have used the atmos bullit to go and I think you might be tasting the "buffer" or the amount of oil the coil "uses" to produce vapor.

If the first few hits tasted fine, and then it started tasting funny, this is probably the case IMO. Just add a few dabs more, if so and try it.

It has actually been the other way around, I have started tasting the chemical taste on the first couple of hits and then after that I either become used to it or it goes away. My major concern is the thought that I could be inhaling something toxic, due either to cheap parts from the unit or the oil containing toxic chemicals.

I'm betting the oil wasn't purged properly, and that is what you are tasting.

could be the oil. and most likely is.

also could be the atmos. not highly regarded around these parts.

what do you recommend? I really dont feel like dropping $200 on a pen that I wont know for sure that it will clear that taste. Actually as I mentioned taste is not a big concern for me, health is. And if its just the taste, I can deal with it until I get a good pen, now if its because Im putting crap in my body, then that will be an issue. I will be sad if I have to leave it alone, because I thought that finally I have discovered a stealthy way to medicate and that made me happy. Thanks again for replying, thanks everyone. I take everything into consideration.

Clean up and heat up a stainless steel spoon and huff a drop off it. That should tell you if it is the vape or not. Good Luck

i would try a different oil possibly from another supplier before buying new equipment.

i fully understand your health concerns. that is why were are all on this forum after all.

if it is the atmos atomizer then try one of the proven winners most around here use. vapor bros dabbler or any of the uptech (D9) or whatever they are calling themselves these days.

you can also get yourself a rebuildable dripping atomizer and build your own coils for pennies vs spending $10-20 each for replacement coils/attys. check out the "one hitter quitter" thread for many setup options.

trust me you dont have to give up your stealthy medicating. you just need to figure out what is causing the taste and move forward from there. keep posting your experience here and we will get you sorted out.

Im sorry, I forgot to mention that I get MJ disposable cartridges, as far as I know I cannot open them to test the vapor quality elsewhere. They come sealed and packaged with a platinum vape logo. Also MJ is still not very legal here and these catridges are brand spanking new. As of this moment I only have one supplier. I guess thats what happens when things are banned youre left with what you can get and if one wants it, one pays the price thats given without having anything else to compete with it. Frankly, Im getting these cartridges for about double of the prices that I have seen these cartridges go for online. It works for me, since I do have a home vaporizer and I dont even vape in grand amounts to begin with. With flowers I have much more choices, with flavor and prices. I will definately post back, hopefully others can learn from this as well.

@howie105, If I can figure out how to taste the vapor quality outside of the cartridge I will do so, @2clicker, meanwhile I will look into creating my own vape pen.

my first concentrate rig, back before dabbing was a thing, was a titanium spork from a nerdy hobby store.
along with a torch lighter and the glass downstem from a grometted bong.

SWEET...thats pretty innovative.

Ok, so I have crossed off the easiest from the list.

1) I do not know any other supplier that will be able to provide me with MJ oils.
2) I wont be able to open up a prefilled cartridge. Which are the cartridges currently available to me at the moment.

With that said, I have to see if upgrading to a better pen vape would give me a solution to this problem. Since the cartridge is prepackaged I need a vape pen that has a 510 thread, I also need one that would be the same size or close to the same size as a regular pen, well similar to the atmos rx bullet.

With that said, I have researched the internet and have searched here for a replacement upgraded pen. There is not much information, at least what I am looking for. What I have found were the following.

a) Most of the pens that I found on the net to buy, are either already built and ready to go or rebuildable. They are mostly used for dripping concentrates, oils and some for flowers. They are larger in size and I did not find one with 510 thread with a slim design.

b) double coils heat up faster than single coils, single cools are slow to heat up but fast to cool down, though once heated up properly they create much bigger and densed vapor clouds.

c) wickless coils are for dry herb and coils with wicks are for oils and concentrates.

d) titanium coils allow for better taste and vaporization, as this will not give off any electronic taste or taste of metal, or so they claimed.

So with this information, I have increased my knowledge by alittle, but I am still left wondering what 510 thread vape pens that lets you taste the actual oil without giving off other tastes or toxins are available to me. Can someone please give me good preforming 510 threaded stealthy vape pens that give quality vaporization for oil concentrates that come in a pre packaged cartridge?

if you are getting pre-filled oil carts, yes you will taste chemicals.
it is most likely one of the peg-s or thinning liquid they use that is giving off the taste.
kinda perfumey plastic synthetic taste on the exhale?

Hi. I have also gone through quite a few vape pens with varying degrees of success. I was pretty happy with the Dabbler and Dr Dabber pens but I find the atomisers burn up pretty quick and for me (based in Europe) it not easy to get affordable replacements.
I recently discovered W9Tech. I now have a number of products from them that I am very happy with. The first is the AC. It comes with a single coil, double coil and ceramic disk vaporizer as well as a closed and glass cover. All of these can also be rebuilt which is a huge advantage in my opinion. They use a grade 2 titanium for the element and the wick is ceramic. I have had the AC for about 2 weeks now and I am still on the original coil so these things really last. You can also order the AC on a 510 thread which is what I did so I could use all the stuff I have accumulated over the last months.
The next device I purchased from them is the Hercules SR74x which is a completely rebuild-able and maintainable cartridge. You can load a fair amount in one go and puff away for days. It is an "advanced" device but its my firm favourite at the moment. This device is 601 threaded and required the W9Tech mod called the Persei which can run at 7.4V.

This is not an advert for W9Tech it is just where I am at the moment. Maybe there is something far superior out there but I have not found it yet.

I am a complete convert to vaping. I vape a combination of BHO and weed. BHO through the pens, carts and atomisers and weed using my trusty Arizer or MiniVap.

My collection of devices is getting a bit out of hand but a guy has to have a hobby!

Thank you for the detailed anwer. Yes I was looking at the Dr. Dabbler and the ghost, I liked them pretty much. I wasnt sure if they had 510 thread or an adaptor. I was also looking at the W9tech now that you mention that they have things that I have read good things about, especially the 510 thread And that they are rebuildable. I will definately look into it. Thank you very much for sharing your experience.
