Just pre-ordered one.

I love the original and I like the sounds of the changes. The smaller oven, reduced cooking of material, and taste preservation sound great. Glad to hear Pak is getting even cooking without stirring too.

Add to that the temp switch change and mouthpiece switch, and I've got to say I'm really looking foward to this

Hey @pakalolo, brother in vaping, how long does the battery last? Or have I missed that?
P2 looks very nice but I think I would get one only if I had money to spare... With all those stealthy convection vapes in the market it's hard to justify such an expensive conduction vape. I hope we get some more reviews soon though. Those temp tricks might drive it up to par with these, who knows?

Howdy @Kahuna Cowboy :)

@pakalolo referred to this in the first post on this thread where he is introducing the new unit. It's well worth checking out his full post but in the meantime here's a snippet with comments relating to draw resistance:
Here's a look at the new oven. Notice that the "screen" has much bigger scallops. This increases the vapour flow (reduces restriction) somewhat, but the PS is still not a free-flow device. I don't have a problem with this, but those who want to hoover it like a bong will still find it frustrating.

So I guess the answer to your question is - 'better'. We'll just probably need to wait to hear a few more peoples experiences before drawing any conclusions on exactly how much better.

It does however appear to me that pretty much every element of the previous design has been enhanced or improved upon in some way with the Pax 2.

Has anyone seen a picture of the new mouthpiece? I guess it's a slit now. There is no clear shot of it in the video. Anyway, this looks nice.

Hi @bounce5 :)

@pakalolo's Pax 2 introduction on the first page of the thread had some pictures of the new mouthpiece - take yourself a look-see . . . .

The two mouthpieces are silicone. One is completely flat, while the other is flared and shaped much like the original popup Pax MP.

Sounds very promising. Any idea what the four preset oven temps are?

I was told that they cover the same range as the original Pax in four even increments but this hasn't been confirmed by the engineers yet. That would mean these temperatures:

188°C (370°F)
195°C (383°F)
202°C (396°F)
210°C (410°F)
My preference would be for a lower starting temp, let's say 170°C (338°F) or even 160°C (320°F) but I understand why manufacturers (PAX is not alone here) don't start that low. People who aren't as familiar with vapour as the members of FC would complain that 160°C "doesn't do anything" because the vapour would not be nearly as visible. Actually, there's more than a few FCers who would complain about that too.

I haven't done battery testing yet. I haven't even gotten though the first charge. I've done three loads so far and the battery level shows two petals, meaning it's 50% depleted. I'm not sure how that compares to the original. I believe that the new lip-sensing algorithm should increase battery life noticeably since there's a less heating.

Anyone know how the draw is? The draw on the first one is so tight it drives me nuts.

As I always say, you're pulling too hard. The draw is improved but still restricted. I have no way to measure this.

It does however appear to me that pretty much every element of the previous design has been enhanced or improved upon in some way with the Pax 2.

Agreed. PAX has taken the criticisms of the original and tried to fix them. In my opinion, they've done an admirable job.

I will post a better picture of the flat MP later today. When in place, it's just a flat top with a small slit at one side.

That would be great, thanks. Please show a picture with the mouthpiece detached too (to show what it looks like off the unit), the underside of the mouthpiece, and a view of the vapor path from the top. Couldn't find any shots of these parts.

Seriously, have you not read the thread? All of the pictures you ask for are in my first post. Here's the flat MP in place:

Sorry, I gave it a quick look the first day, didn't expect the flat mouthpiece, and just thought the picture of the mouthpiece was the herb chamber cap - they look soo similar from the top. Then I saw the video and didn't put two and two together. Thanks, those are great pictures, btw.

If I wanted the best looking device with the most 'cool' factor, I would without a doubt get a Pax

If I wanted a portable device that was more designed for efficiency and overall vapour quality, the Pax wouldn't even make the list.

After 3 years, they came out with this device. They've improved everything.... except the actual vaporization technology.

If your needs are to have a tiny and discreet device that looks sexy and does cool things to show off to friends such as 'party mode' or the ability to play Simon, this is the device for you.

If your number 1 requirement in a portable vaporizer is its ability to vaporize, providing high vapor quality and efficiency, this is definitely not the right choice.

Of course I don't have the device yet but judging from the original Pax, this one only improves on the flash and fancy features while the vaporization tech is the same as it was 3 years ago.

That's really disappointing to hear it still can't go lower than 370, even if taste has improved. Even one lower temp of like 181F for like 358 would be fine. I do like that it can do 380ish though, that's a fun temp for me

Oh well, guess I'm sticking with Indica as my portable conduction, I wonder if their new version will have smart features like this. Seems like that's the new key to improved efficiency, especially for conduction units

We herd you the first time. Why are you bashing something you've never tried? Did you even read Paks review? I thought the whole mouthpiece area change and the new lip sensor for heat management were fairly major improvements. It looks like you've already made up your mind though.

Stop trolling dude , if you don't like it find another thread with something you like to talk about. You never tried the Pax 2 yet and either did i. If you were to have already used it than i wouldn't mind at all if you stated your opinion. While i was not happy with the original pax , this new version looks promising to me in a few ways. The vaporization tech does look improved as it seems they moved the heating chamber and have some type of auto puff technology as for it working well , i couldn't tell ya until i try it for myself ...

Don't underestimate the power of these two things to sell 500,000 units to the masses, of which I was one.

I'm guessing for most of us on this forum, no one vape is going to satisfy all our needs. Party mode aside, there is something to be said for sexy, simple, and stealthy. For social situations especially where I am hanging out with occasional users, this is the vape I'm going to take with me. No way I am going to hand these folks my SR-74 or even my solo, which can scare off the amateurs with its resemblance to an electric crack pipe. Forgetting the original mouthpiece fiasco, the Pax is very user friendly and unintimidating...I've seen the Pax bring a lot of retired, grown-up smokers back into this fine hobby of ours.

Given all of this, even the old Pax mostly got the job done (while it worked). Its not the vape I am going to take with me to the Cannabis Cup to compare strains, but on a vacation with extended family the Pax 2 might be my first choice. It has a very legitimate use case.

Seriously guys, he's not trolling, this is a forum to exchange points of view. To me you all over react even more than in the Grasshopper thread for a device you didn't even back! You are not being threatened, what's your reason to be so defensive? You own the original Pax?

He's right when he says that some aspects weren't improved. It's still a full-on conduction/radiant tech, with a large metal hoven (when most modern devices tend to add elements of convection and ceramic hovens) and the temperature selection is again only 4 meager settings that could have been chosen more wisely, like they did in the Indica which was, I need to remind you, a FC-driven improvement over the original Pax.

Don't underestimate the power of these two things to sell 500,000 units to the masses, of which I was one.

Yes exactly, they aim at the masses and this is a good vape for someone with little experience (and granted it's good for the reasons he listed too and many more) but I don't see it as a connoisseur vape.

I got a pax1 a while ago, let it go because I didn't like the mp problems between it getting stuck in temp mode and popping out in my pocket turning the pax on when I didn't want to, I tried many others since then, and started heading back towards the pax just recently after realizing it was one of the few I found to suit my portable needs, if only it didn't have the mp issues...

they released the news about the P2 just days after I started to think I wanted another pax in my rotation, I know vaping is a personal thing on many levels, but I've tried a lot of the portables in real time, after having a pax, and the INH004 I have still is the only one I found that comes close to keeping up with my use, and it isn't fitting in most of my pockets with out turning on either, and my battery is getting saggy on the INH.

I'm excited to see the improvements first hand. It not everyone's ideal device, but I knew my old pax would get me fully medicated, quickly, with very little attention drawn to me, and fit in my pocket better than any others that run on battery. Smell would be my only other complaint, and there isn't much that can be done about that if you have good fragrent herbs. I was pretty sure I had no reasons to buy another vape for a while, until this one was released. I think for stealth the Pax still holds the smallest package. Maybe once the grasshopper is actually a real time gadget anyone can buy, I would be happy to consider it as an option as well.

I never had much interest in the original Pax, for a number of reasons, but it seems as if they have actually improved two key aspects...the mouthpiece issues (the biggest reason I never had Pax interest) and, if it works as advertised, a way to mitigate the "constant cooking" aspect of conduction. Again, on paper anyway, these seem like huge improvements, even if the basic conductivity approach remains. I think it's a little unfair to characterize Pax 2 as having no substantive improvements.

Yes exactly, they aim at the masses and this is a good vape for someone with little experience (and granted it's good for the reasons he listed too) but I don't see it as a connoisseur vape.

I have some inclination to agree with you, and I certainly wouldn't want to give up tasty convection for convenient conduction. But, not all vapes are made for all circumstances and I personally could see this puppy filling a nice "out of the house stealth vape" slot in my lineup. Given they've addressed my two big concerns for the Pax, I am seriously intrigued. As for it not being a connoisseur vape, well, we know one trusted connoisseur who speaks highly of it, so far. ;)

Damn! Looks like a lot of improvements, no more lube! And the new mouthpiece system looks awesome.
So the oven is deeper, but smaller. Meh on that part. Wish they came out with multiple oven lids to allow for more control over what/how much you want to load in a session.

Love my original pax, I'll be keeping an eye on this thread for sure.

EDIT: Not sure how i feel about the flat mouth piece, but less cleaning and no lube may as well have had me sold.

@mitchgo61 : Note that I didn't say there weren't substantive improvements, (there are clearly many) I said "some aspects weren't improved". Now do they matter or not for the user, I don't know, we all have widely different expectations.

As Pak said a lot of people couldn't care less about a lower temperature setting, whereas like ShitSnacks for me it's a turn down (but see I like being in control and chose the Ascent for that reason, I expressed the same disppointment in the Haze thread, especially with the first version that had like only 2-3 usable settings, same with the FM5-S etc)

I never said this Pax2 was a bad vape either, it looks gorgeous and seems to be a good performer. I didn't like the original for several reasons, taste being the primary, but it hits good and so many people love it, there's no question about that.
