Guam Legalizes Medical Marijuana

Voters in Guam approved a ballot initiative Tuesday that would legalize marijuana for "debilitating medical conditions" such as epilepsy, HIV, cancer and glaucoma. The bill, which passed by more than 56 percent, makes Guam the first U.S. territory to legalize medical pot.

The decision marks the first victory in a flurry of marijuana-related ballot measures this Election Day. Residents of Florida will also vote on medical marijuana legislation, and voters in Alaska, Oregon and Washington, D.C., will decide whether to legalize pot for recreational purposes. Two Maine cities are also voting on full-scale legalization, and two New Mexico counties are mulling decriminalization.

"This is just the beginning of a very big day," Tom Angell, chairman of the advocacy group Marijuana Majority, told HuffPost. "People all across the world are ready to move beyond failed prohibition laws, especially when seriously ill patients are criminalized just for following their doctors' recommendations."

Though the Guam initiative originally faced legal hurdles, the self-governing territory's Supreme Court ultimately pushed it through to the ballot in September. A government commission will establish the program's specific rules and regulations in the coming months.

As of Tuesday, 23 U.S. states and the District of Columbia have some sort of medical marijuana law on the books, and the country's support of both medical and recreational pot continues to grow. A recent poll showed 88 percent of Americans think patients should be allowed to use cannabis for medical purposes, and multiple surveys over the past year have revealed a clear majority of respondents back full-scale legalization.

The article starts off with....

There are currently only seven people in the U.S. that can legally use marijuana under federal law, and they all receive cannabis cigarettes direct from the Federal government.

Supporters of a measure that would legalize limited amounts of cannabis for adults 21 and up in Nevada have collected nearly twice the required amounts of signatures needed to get their measure on the ballot in 2016.

They'll submit the signatures later today, joined by Democratic state Sen. Richard Segerblom, who has tried several times to get legalization measures passed by the state legislature.

Here's 2 new articles...well...they're new to me anyway...

The first one talks about how Altria (Think cigarettes) could tap into a 40 billion dollar market for MJ but what I really like is the stats/percentage showing the ever increasing MJ acceptability and some MJ percentages by demographics:
http://www.thestreet.com/story/1295...ed-40-billion-market-marijuana-in-the-us.html

The second article: Even though Florida has not even legalized medicinal marijuana, there are already entrepreneurs that are planning on opening state wide chains with multiple locations.

Arkansas Gov. Mike Beebe.
Getting arrested for marijuana can ruin your life in Arkansas. Unless you are the governor's son, that is.

Outgoing Arkansas Gov. Mike Beebe announced yesterday that he plans to pardon his son's 2003 felony marijuana charges. Kyle Beebe was convicted of marijuana possession with intent to deliver. Mike Beebe has pardoned nearly 700 nonviolent offenders in during his tenure in office and says his son deserves the same second chance as all the other people he's let off.

New York City's New Marijuana Policy Has Been In Effect for 48 Hours

woodyharrelson-SNL.jpg

It's been two days since New York City began a more lenient, pot-friendly approach to public display of cannabis. And while we won't have any concrete data for weeks or months, we imagine it's already changed life in the Big Apple. People aren't going to be arrested for public display of small amounts of pot after cops stop them, frisk them and demand they turn out their pockets - eliminating a major tool that the cops used to criminalize black and brown people in the city.

But it doesn't exactly legalize pot use, either. Woody Harrelson and the cast of Saturday Night Live summed up the changes beautifully last week. Video below.

My iPad won't play back videos where I can post them. If someone could post that, Woody is really funny and so is the SNL cast. It's on the read more link above. That would also be a good video to watch vaked too.

Did anyone else watch John Cleese and Seth Rogan on Bill Maher last night? Cleese is STILL funny at 75 especially when he was talking about fans coming in for an autograph....:lmao: and Rogan was talking about how he's ALAWYS high when he's working. He said that MJ just allows him not to care and that helps a LOT with his acting, writing and direction abilities. Interesting......

Michigan Prosecutor Loses Case After Anti-Medical Marijuana Rant

gavel-weed.jpg

An attorney's opinionated rant against marijuana in a Michigan courtroom last week cost her a case, even though most seemed to agree she had won.

In her closing arguments in a case against a Michigan medical cannabis patient accused of growing more than he was allowed, Alger County prosecutor Karen Bahrman went off on a tear on the state's medical marijuana laws, the Alger Hemp Coalition, a local cannabis advocacy group, and patients in general. She said their vision was to live in a "country where everybody can walk around stoned."

Tommy Chong is About to Be Everywhere (If You Smoke Weed, Man)

Now that the era of cannabis prohibition is finally coming to a close, the famous stoners of bygone eras are stepping away from their bongs, wandering out of their man caves and looking to cash in. Bob Marley's descendants may be trying to brand a strain of weed named after the famed reggae singer, but L.A.'s own Tommy Chong is thinking a big more broadly.

Yes, his own strain -- "Chong Star" -- is in the works. But more importantly, the 76-year-old is making a play for a lucrative comeback with a recent stint on the hit show Dancing With the Stars and endorsements of everything from fertilizer and joint-rolling machines to pipe necklaces and Smoke Swipes, a product that supposedly removes unwanted smells from clothing and hair. Amanda Lewis at the LA Weekly has more.

Texas Girl Was Taken Away From Parents Because They Smoked Pot, Only to Be Killed in Foster Care

alexhill-thumb-560x241.jpg

Little Alex Hill would have been turned four-years-old last month. But rather than celebrating their child's birthday, the toddler's parents have only the bitter consolation of seeing a judge in Milam County hand Alex's foster mother a life sentence for murder.

The life sentence is a small victory in the case of two-year-old Alex, whose July 2013 death was caused by devastating injuries at the hands of her foster mother, 52-year old Sherill Small.

In Texas and some other states it's a risk if you use cannabis and have children. These absurd laws, ideas and rules need to change. Some common sense needs to apply.

Salutations MacBill,

Well it might happen to prove most regretable to overlook the crunchy part:

FMI: Who is Behind the No On 2 Campaign? Part 3: The Semblers and the Rest of Drug Free Florida Committee’s Backers (2014-Sep-24)

« Mel Sembler... ...and Betty Sembler are the founders of the non-profit groups the Drug Free America Foundation and Save Our Society From Drugs. ... The Drug Free America Foundation originated in the 1970s as Straight, Inc., which had operated as a drug rehab center. ... ...involved in a number of scandals, including allegations that children who had been admitted for experimenting with cannabis were tortured at the rehab center. »

Oh, Straight Inc. (...), indeed somehow i've actually been made aware of this peculiar kind of "Fix my Kid" industry before: there's a Canuck counterpart known as the Alberta Adolescent Recovery Centre, of which i personally never heard about on TV (i had to search the net). Not media-sexy stuff i guess, so i figure Florida must be nearly the same...

After all, "rehab" is for criminals, right?

:peace:

Florida Man Sentenced to 90 Years over Marijuana Crime, to Have Fate Decided in 30 Days Write Comment
Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at 12:20 pm

jail%20cell%20flikr-thumb-500x375.jpg

Back in October, our colleagues at the Broward-Palm Beach New Times published a feature on people doing hard time for marijuana. One of the men profiled in the piece, Richard DeLisi, was sentenced in 1989 to 90 years for marijuana-related crimes, including trafficking and conspiracy to traffic.

Aging and in declining health, the 65-year-old DeLisi's fate is in the hands of a court hearing that will decide if he will have one of his felony conspiracy charges reduced to a second-degree misdemeanor. Last week, Judge Michael Raiden of the Polk County Courthouse began a 30 day deliberation over a motion filed by DeLisi's attorney, despite the state's objections.

States with legal hemp cultivation and medical marijuana programs just got historic support from Congress.

Included in the federal spending bill released late Tuesday are amendments that prohibit the Department of Justice from using funds to go after state medical marijuana operations and that block the Drug Enforcement Administration from using funds to interfere in state-legal industrial hemp research.

“The enactment of this legislation will mark the first time in decades that the federal government has curtailed its oppressive prohibition of marijuana and has instead taken an approach to respect the many states that have permitted the use of medical marijuana to some degree," Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-Calif.), who in May introduced the medical marijuana protections amendment with co-sponsor Rep. Sam Farr (D-Calif.), told The Huffington Post Wednesday.

“This is a victory for so many, including scores of our wounded veterans, who have found marijuana to be an important medicine for some of the ailments they suffer, such as PTSD, epilepsy and MS," Rohrabacher added.

If passed, the bill would protect medical marijuana programs in the 23 states that have legalized marijuana for medical purposes, as well as 11 additional states that have legalized CBD oils, a non-psychoactive ingredient in marijuana that may be therapeutically beneficial in severe cases of epilepsy.

I wonder if it's OK with Nebraska and Oklahoma's tax payers to be waisting their tax dollars trying to change a law that was voted by the people in another state? How many thousands of dollars will be spent to try to stop a law in another state? It's completely ridiculous.

The state police are harassing the cars from other states. So worried that cannabis might be in someone's car. I think they have marijuana induced paranoia.:o
