It came out EASILY, just like I thought it would so now we can clean it, replace it, and clean under it . . . :)

Great news @t-dub. Getting under the screen to clean is important. Would you mind sharing how you pulled it out? Support suggested using a needle or a pin but I haven't tried it yet.

I used a Skilletools Sharpy to hook/pull it out from the edge. I am so glad I found this. Cleaning under the screen was really important to me. Now I feel good about trying liquid pad/shatter experiments :)

What are the disadvantages to using the smaller screen on the bottom? I always used everything right out of the box with my crafty and was happy, but if there is just a cleaner way why not... It was very clean the whole time though after 4 hours of runtime with no cleaning other than blowing on it when warm.

I also have to wonder why if there was a "better" way, it isn't the default way? I'm torn between my usual modding ways and my "ain't broke don't fix it" lifestyle I'm trying to adopt more lol.

I don't know about better, but the tech guy at S&B clearly didn't know the correct answer to my question. The finer screens are lower filling chamber screens and the coarse screens are for the cooling unit.

I think the cera LL was one of if not the highest vapor quality I've had. That being said I had to work SO FUCKING HARD to get minimal vapor and effects. Like sipping a quarter glass of fine wine, while the crafty feels more like doing a nice quick chug of some 151. Well, besides the taste that is. The cera LL tasted better in my eyes. The firefly too, but the crafty is not far behind. It makes up for that slightly less awesome taste than those 2 by producing buckets of vapor. The effects are MUCH stronger on the crafty than any portable vape to date. I have my firefly as a backup, but I find myself switching back to my portable oil vapes until my crafty comes back. When I had my crafty I was back to vaping just buds outside the house, and had saved oil for at home only the entire short week or so I had the crafty.
@darkrom Do you have, or have you tried the Bender LL from W9 Tech?
The ceramic rod with the all glass bender tastes amazing!
IMO it tastes as good if not better than the cera, but it is a more cumbersome.

The cera is much more ergonomic for sure.

If so, how would you compare the Bender to the crafty in terms of taste and vapor production?

Thanks

You are right actually. Tried the bender long ago. It wins for best tasting herb vape. BUT the reason I forgot all about it, it really sucks for my usage :( it takes way too much to fill the chamber. It isn't portable because its expensive and fragile, and it gave me good effects, but I can get much stronger if I packed those multiple bowls worth into the crafty instead.

Someone else once described the bender perfectly before so I'll try to paraphrase, but it was basically " the bender is the perfect vape to sit on the porch and have a nice long sunday session" or something like that. Its not really useful for anything else imo, but your right, the flavor is the best I've ever had...but the vape overall was forgettable for my portable needs.

The crafty produces more vapor, and harder hitting vapor for me, but again I forgot about the bender....#1 on the flavor list of all time for me.

@darkrom Thank you good sir!

I do believe you sealed the deal for me!

Well put, the bender is a perfect "at home" vape but not travel friendly at all. As you stated the taste is superb with the bender, but it is far from a portable dry herb vape.

Thanks for your quick response and sharing your knowledge with us.
I will continue to use the bender with the core at home and get a crafty for my new DD.

So one thing about my Crafty that has been bothering me was the apparent disconnect between the website and what I was told from tech support regarding the lower screen in the filling chamber. The website clearly shows these finer screens for sale and clearly refers to them as filling chamber screens. Also while looking into the filling chamber I could see a counter bore that looked like it held the screen in place. So I went for it and pulled it out. It came out EASILY, just like I thought it would, so now we can clean it, replace it, and clean under it . . . :) There is also a thingy in the center of the bottom that keeps the middle of the screen up and makes it easier to reset. Its hard to photograph . . .

This is super awesome @t-dub ... this bothered me as well! (was shocked how clean it was staying though :))

I'm using the fine screen w/ the cooling chamber right now ... I also think I'll sub one in on the bottom once I feel the need to clean the chamber now!

Here is a 13000maH power bank on sale for $29.99.

http://www.amazon.com/Vivis-trade-K..._1_1?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1414978287&sr=1-1

15000maH power bank for $36.99

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MQSMEEE/ref=ams_at_8828889863243_B00I7MZEAY

The biggest portable power banks seem to be around 20000maH.

http://www.amazon.com/iBattz-Battstation-Optimus-Charger-Smartphones/dp/B00I7MZEAY

You would get more maH and save more money by buying two of the $29.99, 13000maH power banks.

Man, check the physical size difference between the Amazon power banks and S&B's power bank.

- 1/2" piece of silicone tubing
- o-ring to go around 1/2" tubing
- 14/18mm reducer that tubing w/ o-ring fits into and creates an airtight seal

Just double checking @JCat , did you mean 1/2" inner diameter or outer diameter? E. G. 1/2" diameter for the clearance on the inside of the tube or measured to the outer part of of plastic tubing?

Well I am officially a mental patient in waiting. Order placed;

Well I have not really been saying a lot about this so I think it is probably okay to give an update. Sadly I believe I was the first FC regular to pull the trigger on the Crafty and unfortunately I am still without one. Order was placed on 17/10 with S&B in Germany. So let me say this - unless you have no choice then absolutely do not order directly from Germany. Yes I did choose the free shipping option but I think it is reasonable to expect better. The package was packed and prepared by S&B the same day I ordered. It then floated around somewhere in Germany until 27/10. At this point it left Germany for Asia (don't want to advertise where I am too much but it is a highly centralized hub) and still has not been sighted. This waiting period also included a Saturday morning when I waited for the mailman (we get mail on Saturdays) because S&B had directly told me it had arrived in my country the day earlier which was completely incorrect. I also waited around this past Saturday as I am foolish. It is a lost cause at this point. Fuck.

The release of the Crafty and Mighty, and all the enthusiasm in the two FC threads, is welcome fun for us Volcano owners. The 'Cano gets very little respect (or interest) on the forum, and it's a pleasure to have so many Volcano veterans out and proud.
I dig the mighty/crafty for daytime lower-temp, cleaner-high sativa vaping.
160c - 170c (320f - 338f) can provide some quite coke-like effects with the right strains.
Clean mood elevation through gloomy PNW winters.

And the volcano for evenings, when a day's-worth of accumulated ABV gives enough material to vape up a bag, at higher temps.
Solid valve on the 'cano is the efficient choice for small amounts of material.

These units, combined, are my SETI... Sativa Exploration and Titration Instruments

happy vaping

My replacement crafty paired with my app just fine, and is charging now. The plus side of this little mishap is I now have 2 of those nifty refill cartriges, and a bunch of spare accessories. I debated keeping the original cooling unit, but I decided they took good care of me, the least I can do is send back the full unit. The accessories like the oil pad are all mine though haha.

Since I have 2 oil pads, I'm debating cutting one in half. I literally don't see how there is any room for bud at all with the oil pad in the unit. With one half the thickness it would allow you to use small bowls. AND it would act as a super duper fine screen if it was under your herbs. My guess is it would cause more conduction style heating though.

I won't be using this one while charging, no matter what lol.

Have found a nice trick:
I thought you had to turn on the Crafty (that means it starts heating up) or charge it to connect it to your phone and change settings.
You don't, a quick press on the POWER button will somehow turn on the Bluetooth, so you can connect and change settings without turning it on and having it heat up, possibly wasting battery.

Not sure if it was mentioned previously, haven't found it in the manual.

suppose you do it like this and forget the Bluetooth on,
with Bluetooth on and the unit off will it drain the battery ???

Just like to point out how splendid the S&B hologram is on the Crafty.

...no one else seems to have mentioned it. Its the bollox, wonder if the Mighty has one?

I'm confused about the Bluetooth comments - I've been able to connect no matter what, even if the unit hasn't been used for hours and is not charging. I guess I haven't tried it when the battery is dead, but still...

If my Crafty has been off for an extended amount of time (even with a full charge), it won't connect automatically to my phone. Like others have mentioned though, a quick tap on the power button will activate the bluetooth connectivity again without turning the Crafty on.

And yes, @h3rbalist the hologram is pretty sweet. Was actually just admiring it :)
