There's an interesting dynamic that happens around here and at other sites that becomes really apparent and it's really pretty silly with the most recent examples here being the GrassHopper and the new S&B portables threads.

What happens is that those who are being exposed to this product and are considering it's validity in the marketplace will question just about everything about it, but then what happens, is that those who have already purchased it, or about to purchase it will take those questions and consider them an attack on their wisdom in making their purchase in the first place, IE, questioning their purchasing decision.

And then, being that they are taking the line of debate and questions personally, things begin to spin out of control.

To the mods........you may either want to sticky this within the rules or reword it as you see fit, but I think it would be a good thing to address this and put this in perspective so that "maybe" some of the stuff that happens in these threads can be avoided.

Just a thought............

Cornholio FTW!!! . . . :freak:

But seriously. I absolutely can NOT spend $500 on a vape then have to tell the wife l8tr that I don't like it for some reason . . . no way. Measure twice cut once. However, once we "cut" we do like to think we made the right decision for ourselves.

Yeah we do, but that doesn't automatically mean that we have to invalidate others who are still "measuring", eh?

I tend to like the raw personality dynamic and occasional toe-slip over the rules line. Mods do a fine job administering the FC forum Parliamentary Procedures! I personally want to see the faces behind the masks, and the lessons learned through the experience. The spin usually tends to right itself out more often than not without mod intervention, When it doesn't, intervention prevails, which can also be called upon via the "Report" button. I say let the chips fall without shortening the hanging rope. Give some rope!

Yeah, I just think it's a good idea sometimes to hold up a mirror so some can get a better idea of what they are "really" doing.

The person that has bought their new unit they are proud, happy and excited. They want to share their new toy with everyone. They want everyone to be as happy and as a excited as they are. When others are asking questions and have something negative to say they feel like they are personally being attacked.

You are really on to something @lwien. A very thought provoking thread.

We see this on the Solo thread. All of us Solo owners are very protective of the Solo. We want everyone else to like it like we do. When someone comes on the thread who dislikes it we all get very defensive. It's kinda funny. Just human nature I guess. We all need a shrink. Calling all FC Physiatrists.

hmmm, this reminds me of when I was a little kid & we was as poor as dog shit. (very similar to modern day dorkus)

Now I never had any friends really & mum had to hang a lamb chop around my neck to get the dog to play with me.

Nowdays I use peanut butter and smear it on my knob instead, but I digress.

So all the cool kids at school (everyone else) would play 'cars' in the dirt but in order to play you had to have a ' hot wheels' brand car.

Well stinky mcfuckface here (cool nickname huh?) didnt fucking have no fucking 'hot wheels' brand car & therefore couldnt play with the spoilt little cunts in the dirt.

Well one day, I happened to come across (I think I stole it from some kid with cancer at the hospital) the coolest fucking car I had ever seen.
It was like a Zonda that was hatefucked by a Bugatti Veyron and it birthed some sort of bastard lovechild that said 'Drive this & DIE'

and while it was NOT the much sought after 'Hot wheels' brand car, it was so damn cool those pieces of shit just had to let me play.

I showed these fuckers my cool car and they all said ' cool car stinky mcfuckface!' I felt accepted for 2 seconds when it was then said, 'But its not a Hot wheels so fuck off.'

Sadly the hot tears of shame flowed because of no hot wheels.
I clenched my hand so very tight around my cool car, & much like a roll of quarters in my hand and I beat the shit outta at least 3 of those little turds.

As I stole their lunch money I whispered in each of their 6yr olds ears.
' Your Mummy puts yr daddys dick in her mouth and sucks it & Thats where babies come from'
The look of horror on their faces is a priceless memory that I carry to this day.

Now I feel there is a lesson in that story for all of us dont you think?

It's an ego thing. People associate themselves to their purchases to feel 'whole' and if someone says it was a shit purchase, or the cracks begin to show in their initial logic used to purchase the device in the first place.. they get defensive to protect their mental image of themselves which is an image of an intelligent, informed and 100% flawless shopper.

Happens to the best of us. Even me. And I am the best of us. How's that for an ego? lol

elmomuzz

That just happened...
You are so far off base it's not even funny. Ego has nothing to do with it. Your totally overthinking this.

Trust me. I could care less if you validate my purchase. I was just trying to counter some of the misinformed opinions being posted.

Great Scott!
I see this often. I go through vapes pretty quickly, trying as many as I can. I see this often with both the volcano and the solo as the 2 biggest culprits on reddit. If you speak anything negatively about either one, or even call them less than perfect the arizer army will cut off your head, and the volcano vapor gods will eat you alive.

IMO it is a "validate your own purchase attitude". Now this is very different from say @elmomuzz who is just a happy reviewer of the new S&B portables like myself.

Would I say the crafty is the best portable in the world? Nah no such thing. The best portable for ME....SO FAR... yes I think so.

.

I think you are right in some respect about what you say, but those that do defend there purchase or give a false representation of an inferior product will only make themselves look like a plonker in the long run.

So no harm done. imo.

Btw I've been posting in the Crafty thread and can say there is nothing spinning out of control over there.

I don't think that happens much, do you? You might disagree with someone's assessment but that doesn't make anyone a liar.

Yeah, I agree. The only time that I've seen that happen is when shills show up to do a bit of astroturfing.

There is a difference between being "right or wrong" and just being "different".

I don't know, I've only been posting here for a couple of weeks. I was quoting the author of this thread.

He seems to think that its happening.

I was just stating that people who do that will come unstuck in the end.

I never even implied that was happening.
Your post was so vague its really hard to tell what you are implying, exactly.

Its why I added the word "seem" to my post.

Are you saying its not possible to give a false representation of an inferior product if someone who has already purchased it, or about to purchase it will take those questions and consider them an attack on their wisdom in making their purchase in the first place, IE, questioning their purchasing decision???

I don't think he's saying that at all. I thought he expressed himself pretty clearly. I'm not sure why you're reading things into @lwien's post. Perhaps that's why you find it vague.

I'm a huge fan of not taking stuff on the interwebs personally. It's something I learned before the WWW was even invented, having participated and moderated online forums since the early 80s. You can't be a good moderator if you take things personally. For example, lwien has posted things about me that are less than flattering but do I care? Nah. He's just some guy on the internet poking at my really thick skin.

Having said that, I never considered before that we should actually incorporate that into the rules. I don't see how it could be enforced. Right now, when I see a discussion getting out of hand I'll make a post that often includes that advice. I think that's how the other moderators handle it as well. I don't think adding something to the rules would make any difference.
