Cheap High Quality Bubbler

I spoke earlier in this thread about taking unused glass to LHS for trade or even cash. I never use the slides domes and nails that come with my orders. I went in with like a dozen things and they gave me 40 cash. That is like 3 something per slide dome and adapter. Not a lot but it adds up if you order a lot of glass like me and weren't going to use that stuff anyways.

You can even take them an entire piece if it is new and unused. Like if you ordered something and just didn't like the looks of it when it came. You might be able to break even or at least not take such a big loss
that is probably where I got the idea. Lol, kudos. It is a great one

And the clean clear glass saga continues :(

Got a package from them today, included the 2 new pieces I ordered, but not the replacement piece that I've been waiting something like 2-3 months for...

Grr time to contact them again for the 100th time...

As for the 2 pieces I got:
The quad showerhead bubbler - quick impression is I like it, seems to have solid construction.
It felt like it had a bit of drag to it with a dry pull, but it wasn't as noticeable with a quick water test.

Inline to honeycomb:
It is actually an inline to fritter, not inline to honeycomb - I was super excited by that, as I love me some fritters.
Unfortunately the inline has an open end, making it chug city :(

I'm thinking about getting some kind of ball bearing or something to jam in there to plug up the open end of the inline, but I thinking it'll need to be something more squishy like silicone or something since the open end doesn't have any kind of reduction - it just ends...

Anyone got any suggestions for something like that?

Really? Open end on the inline?? :mental::disgust: Do they even think before they make up a new design? or just copy someone else as best they can from a few low resolution photographs???

What about aquarium grade silicon? Might start to look dirty from extensive use (unless you use CE religiously). But if you can make a ball of silicon to fit down the tube, that might work well - mix a pinch of corn starch to help the silicon fully cure faster. (Aquarium grade silicon is non-toxic once cured)

Just got mail from Kathy. Check over in the DHgate glass review thread later today for a review. I will just say right now that I am pleased

Sounds like an awesome idea :)
Would the aquarium silicone be safe to expose to ISO/PBW further down the line?
I don't really mind if it looks dirty going forward, so long as it is actually clean...

This is the piece I'm talking about btw,

I'm thinking I'll have to use a coat hanger or pipe cleaner or something to jam it down to the end of the inline...

I'll have to try that sometime. Do you go to smoke shops that have a glass section or full on headshops that only sell glass?

And as a follow up to what I was talking about earlier, he confirmed that the glass coming from China is safe. Once it reaches a molten state everything harmful is incinerated. Although, he said anything with paint/logos on it likely contains lead and cadmium so thats best to be avoided.

@calyx good to kno thanks for the info. N I figured that stuff wouldn't get by the molten glass state lol

I'll also be trying to sell my extras to my LHS hopefully they take them off my hands. They're just in the way now lol idc if I get a buck a piece.

Yes - just let the ball of silicon cure for several days before you try installing it (once it stops smelling like vinegar, you're good to go). I have tested ISO and PBW with the tapered rubber plugs I make (same material, listed on my etsy shop), and have seen no visible deterioration from prolonged exposure (24 hours soaking in 91% ISO, several short PBW rinses).

Just be careful to not push it all the way down the line! It'd suck to have it fall out the end and swish around in the water forever! (Though note, the aquarium silicon is made for saltwater fish-tanks, so it should be completely non-toxic no matter what happens)

...

On a side note, does anyone know how safe it is to be using these China made pieces? Or I suppose the better question would be has anyone ever felt adverse effects from the stuff they bought on DHGate?
I haven't found any information directly related to the stuff on DHGate, but most of the raw materials in China are made from highly illegal "recycling" practices like using hazardous medical waste. I've ordered a few things from sunshinestore, but i'm kind of worried about cadmium and other impurities found in the boro glass.

the only things i've ever heard people worry about is the fritted disc percs and poorly melted in frit on spoons. chinese fritted disc scares me a little but i still use one a few times a week at a friends house.

it could have just been a dave goldstein fanboy hating on chinese frit, idk

I actually don't understand your concern with the fritted disks? I have a dhgate fritted disk and I find it functions just fine (probably my favorite dhgate piece atm)

im not talking about function, just safety. there were people claiming the chinese fritted disc were possibly unsafe, probably because it's essentially crushed glass and that would suck to inhale?

i think that's the same complaint glassblowers have about colored frit in spoons not being melted in fully, i'm just guessing as i dont blow glass.

also, i thought this PDF on care and handling of PYREX fritted glassware was interesting

So thanks to @blankrider I have finally press the buy button on the shower head to HC to egg, can't wait for it to arrive in some 45 days ich

RRnQQwD.jpg

Just in case you weren't sure, its Kathy who sells it :p

http://www.dhgate.com/product/2014-...b-perk-9-quot/210383089.html#cart_view-1-null

I also did spot this one, too much diffusion perhaps but for the buck $32.45 (shipped to Europe, for us Europeans and perhaps Australians too? its worth mentioning as we do not have the Epacket over here, damn Europe, I guess its a good thing otherwise I'd have even more glass at home, just to give you guys an idea of the misery we live with, items on the Alina store are almost double the price when shipping is add on :cry::cry::cry::cry: anyway enough sobbing)

Going back to the glass I've always wanted to try the diamond perc as they seem to call it and was so desperate to get a new female piece (these days you see so much oil rigs around), so with its 30 cm + in size, how could I refuse...

This seller, waterbongsman only has 11 transactions so its more of a gamble but hey someone has to start somewhere...

As soon as it arrives I'll add it to the DHgate thread

anyway enough chatting,

Yeah i'm probably overly cautious, but i'll only buy glass that has a fritted disc if it's by an American glass blower. I highly doubt these Chinese manufacturers are going to take the time to make sure every tiny shard of glass is welded properly where it won't come off. Seriously, half the time they don't even make sure the base doesn't wobble. Fritted disc are way more tedious to check.
Let's be honest guys, Chinese manufacturer do not give a single fuck about their own employees lives, let alone some random people across the world. It's all about supply and demand, the faster they push these out the more money that comes in. I'm not saying all their glass sucks or is dangerous, I just exercise my own judgement with the safety of their ripped designs.

So once again my glass was delivered this morning right before I went into work. Third time where I went into work and could have dabbed my new piece before hand but I didn't check the mail cause tracking wasn't up to date. So tonight I will hit the little green bubbler and post my thoughts up.

Still waiting to pull that trigger on the fab egg. I kinda wanna find a mini 10mm piece to order with it. I need something for when I start to go snowboarding.

Damn I was really curious to see how this piece functioned.
I wonder if you blow torched the cut maybe you could smoothen it out a bit and it could still function? :p I don't know, that's what i'd personally do in that situation whilst waiting for my replacement.

ALSO! Is the perc gridded or is it just multiple slits?

Slits. Nice clean ones. I wonder if I could just some beeswax to make it work temp....better not heat up much... hahah

That's a bummer.. Wait until they ship you a replacement though it seems that you could definitely still "rig" that to work.

Someone better take the time to show them what a box is for. Looks like they just wrapped it in a sheet of cardboard.

Ok, I went ahead and mended it with beeswax. Super effective mend.

So far there seem to be some mis-measurments. Like you have to fill too much water to get a recycle. Needs an 18mm extension.. Ill film later after my rehearsal.... sit tight.

Methinks I might have "taken one for the team"....

that was my concern that the perc was down too low.

Dude I really need to see the function on that fab egg!! Ive been wanting a perc to honeycomb for a while and that thing looks amazing!

If he posts a video I think I'll definitely bite. Still hesitating for whatever reason at the moment.
