I clean it by removing the lid and very gently taking a dental pick and inserting it into that little top slot to remove debris. Then i take an iso-damp paper towel and roll it into a point, and insert it gently into the biz end of the mouthpiece and rub it around, again gently. Then blow into it. Lots of blowing.
I use the dental picks that have bristles on them with some ISO. The brush can be bent at a 90-degree angle and does a pretty effective job at scrubbing. I also insert it in the top slot and then through the mouthpiece.

Thanks, I'll know in a couple of days when I get my Wispr screens. I'm giving it a try.
One more question. I have read that their is a rubber gasket that the stock screen goes under. Do you remove that rubber gasket also when you put the Wispr disc in ?

A nice piece on our favorite vape design guys. Some cool prototype pics we haven't seen before, too...

http://www.craveonline.com/lifestyle/articles/759717-fireflyers

Nice article. A bit self-indulgent, and possibly "anachronistic" to a regular FC'er, but a fun read.

But it annoys the shit out of me that these two guys, who seem to be so cool, still won't show themselves legitimately here on FC. I have no doubt they read every post, but... that's just not the same.

Be as cool as you claim, and make an official account here. Choose the "unsafe" route. Plenty of other manufacturers do it. If you're really as anti-corporate as you claim, then come and talk to us, your biggest fans. You know you have massive love on this forum - come show us why it's deserved.

That's my final, and really the only, quarrel I have with Firefly.

EDIT: Here's a tip - don't pretend to be a girl who is a "representative" of the company. Most FF owners don't fall for that crap.

Well you must admit you can think of at least a few circumstances where a manufacturer's presence has had a less-than-positive effect on the thread. But yeah I agree I would love to see them here. I know for a fact they read FC, they might as well join the fun.

Maybe they are just into their capt black tobaccy instead of this wacky left-handed shit we indulge at FC. :brow:

I found that rather amusing. They talk about the Firefly as though they designed it for tobacco—to a crew from MaryJane Lane! I think fear of admitting the real purpose of the FF this is likely the reason that keeps them from participating here.

They also conflate conduction/convection with constant power/power-on-demand. That's not helpful when you are supposedly trying to educate your potential customer.

I got my Iolite Wispr screens today for my Firefly. I noticed the Wispr screen is about 1/2 as fine in that the holes on the Wispr screen mesh are twice as big as the stock Firefly screen. Won't that let more product to fall into the heating unit and cause problems ? I'm holding off putting it in as it works so perfectly as it is.

Yes, the Iolite screen has a slightly larger mesh. If your material is finely-ground you may get a little more debris. If you use a coarser grind, it won't make a material difference. And it's mitigated by the ease of removal...you can pop the disc out easily after every bowl and blow out anything on the plate.

Let's clear up a couple things though. 1. Stuff that falls under the screen or the Iolite disc is extremely unlikely to cause problems especially if you clean it out once in a while. There's a silicon gasket between the bottom of the bowl and the plate and it really keeps the vast majority of stuff out of the heater chamber. So don't worry about whatever may get under the screen...just clean it every few bowls and blow the crap out of there. Unless there's a break in the seal, that stuff isn't going anywhere but the steel plate.

2. Some of us like the Wispr screens because they make it easier to clean via fast removal...the stock screens work great, but they are a little small, and the edges degrade with repetitive removal and eventually they don't work as well because they don't cover the whole plate as they get a little degraded. So for me personally I like the ease of the Iolite discs because I like to clean the FF daily, and daily removal of the stock screen was destroying it. To be clear, the stock screen, when in new or good condition, performs at least as well or better than the Iolite. And the Iolite will eat up some space in the bowl, a tiny but noticeable amount as Steama mentioned.

If you want the best possible performance, a brand new FF stock screen is likely your best bet. If you want convenience for cleaning and removal, and performance as or nearly as good as the stock the Iolite is great. (Give it a try and see if you like it...if not, remove it, blow out the debris, put back the stock screen....) If you're worried about causing issues with debris on the plate, don't, it's designed well nothing should hit the heating coil.

Now get out there and compare, so we can hear what you think.

Thank you for the detailed reply and and all the information I need to know about changing to the Wispr screen. I'm a little worried about the gasket That the stock screen goes under. It seems to be exposed now inside the bowel. I'm going on a couple day trip to the coast in a week.
It's working so well now I'm going to wait till I get home from my trip then change the works. I just don't want to be in a motel room without a vaporizer. I have a tendency to mess up stuff I take apart.
Thank you again for the very informative reply. It helps me a great deal.
As soon as I change the screens I will post the results.

Can you post a pic of the bowl and gasket? You can see it, usually, so it's techinically exposed, but it shouldn't be loose, or coming away from beneath the glass bowl edge. I can see the black gasket on both of my FFs, but it's clearly secure under the bowl edge. If you can show us a pic we can tell you if it looks weird.

In any event, don't worry! FF service is stellar. Any problem you have, they will take care of you, fast. The warranty is maybe the best thing about the FF. ;)

OK, so I have used my FF on three occasions now, as yet I have not stirred a bowl, so I will try that next time, so far I've been shaking it a bit instead. Now the first two times I used it it was clean, obviously when it was brand new and the second time I had cleaned it thoroughly after the first time I used it, both times I got great results we were heating around 8 seconds then drawing for 15 or 20 I reckon, definitely we had the pine taste the first few then it became less pronounced for flavour, most I've got so far is 11 hits off a bowl, my mate loves to repack a lot LOL, but we had to research it anyway, how long a bowl lasts.

A couple of things I notice, you need to clean this after every use, for me that's one bowl, otherwise the airway/channels get blocked up and you don't get max vapor IMO, second thing I had to stop doing was hold a finger or two over the vent/s, its I bit awkward to hold the FF but you get used to it of course.

Another thing I had some gear that was dry, and some that was moister, we mixed it all together in the end but I suspect its better a little moist that dry, better flavour wise as well I think.

The dry gear was bush and the moist was hydro of some type.

So far I've only packed relatively small and loose bowls so may be I need to pack it tighter with bigger clumps and see how that goes.

I also notice that if you recharge the battery, like I do after I use it that day, the next time I use it a week later the battery has lost significant charge and needs another 15 minutes or so, just something I noticed so be prepared for that.

Vape on! :peace:

This is what my Firefly looks like now. Still works great. I had 2 before this one but they never looked like this one. I don't know if that's the rubber gasket or not. I tried scraping it out with the plastic picks but it won't budge.

Get a wooden toothpick and remove the screen. Don't be timid. I would then dampen a cloth with ISO and with a finger tip begin gently cleaning the bowl. That is almost 100% not your o-ring. It looks like resin build-up to me.

Good-luck

I agree. Hard to tell for sure from the pic but it looks like the bottom of the bowl is discolored from build-up rather than an exposed gasket. You'll find out immediately once you wipe it with some ISO. The screen also looks way past its prime...replace it with a new once you clean the bowl and plate.

WOW!!! I'd never let my FF look like that. After 6-7 months and it's like brand new. I would remove the torx screws and give it an all-around cleaning if I was you! And change or ISO soak and scrub that screen of course…

Anything worth doing, is worth overdoing.
I can't believe folks have the ability to draw for 30-40 sec and then a few more secs after releasing the button. With the resistance that my unit has, I'm lucky if I have the muscle strength to draw fro 20-30 total. I do get good hits and I'm careful to not cover the vents with my fingers.

You know what was so cool. When I break up my material with my fingers, I often suspend the bud over the bowl. As you pull it apart, you can actually see some of the trichs fall and land on the shiny stainless steel like falling snow.

So after several hits on the larger pieces, I stir and finger press. This when the material breaks down into much finer pieces. These last hits are where the leaf starts sticking to the glass and clogging the ports. Is this the time when some of you use the top domed screen?

Okay, I'll give it a try. I didn't know you could clean the glass inside the bowl. Can you use regular alcohol pads ? or just ISO ? Sorry my unit looks so bad.

I just didn't think you could clean the glass heating element in the bowl with ISO.

Have you been using concentrates, or just flowers?
Just high quality bud ground in a 3 in. Aerospaced grinder. I end up with a fairly fine ground product that vapes well. I just use the shake method, I don't pack it.

Removing the screws does not void the warranty?
