I think I can be forgiven for digging out the pipe and lighter...

Because my 17 year old pit bull just fell and shat himself with diarrhea. On the carpet, of course. I cleaned him and the mess as best I can until a carpet cleaner comes, and we're headed to the dog wash now, but it still smells like shit in here. Literally. Candles and open windows aren't helping. You guys, I had to do *SOMETHING* to try to mask the smell!!

So now it smells like weed and candles. And shit. :shit:

Is your dog alright! I'm sure that would be your primary concern.

@Snappo he is as alright as a 17 year old dog can be. He's just very old and unstable and unfortunately had a bout of diarrhea so when he fell it literally knocked the poop right out of him. Poor guy! And poor mama having to clean it up, ugh.

Yes - it can be heartbreaking when our furry little soul mates experience difficulties, particularly when they're in the throws of very old age. Good luck to you and yours!

We go through this with our 12 year old Collie sometimes. He's a long haired dog too, so it can get nasty. We decided to have him shaved down because of it.

I wish your furbaby the best!

The love of my life, "Baboo" is my 23 year old cat. He sleeps in my bed and folds himself into my arms, chest, neck, wherever, all night. Sometimes he separates from me by a few inches or goes under his own blanket which I also place for him to the side, should he decide that's what he wants. Occasionally he pees or even defecates while sleeping, that's why I cover my bed with plastic sheets under my cloth sheets - just in case. To me, when this happens it is only a very small inconvenience for me to immediately change the bed nice and fresh. I also get up a few times a night to take him to the litter box should he need to go. It is most important to me that Baboo has his time with me whenever, wherever, however, whatever it takes, pee & poop aside. Baboo's comfort and desire to sleep by me takes precedence over all else in this regard. I understand that what I have described above would be ok for only a very select few, but that's how important Baboo and my pets are to me. They are my everything!

We have a 17 year old cat that is going through this too. She is wearing diapers now, and she doesn't even mind.

That's beautiful!:luv: I had considered this also for Baboo, but will hold off a bit more until incidence become more frequent.

We held off as long as we could too. Sable is also blind and partially deaf. She is a sweet baby, though!! She is not our only special needs furbaby.

Here is a picture I took of her in my office chair.

So precious!!! Looks just like my Baboo, only your baby has much more meat on her bones. I worry about my Baboo so much it hurts.

I'm not sure which I find more upsetting, the thought that he doesn't understand why his body doesn't work so well anymore, or that he DOES understand. Either way, I just want to make sure he's as comfortable and happy as he can be in the time he has left cause I love him.

@Vicki Yikes! Big AND hairy. I don't envy you that clean up. All the best to you and your fur baby as well!

Now see, when my cats would pee or poop on the bed it was just cause they were dicks who didn't want to use the litter box. haha

But seriously, you have to love the old animals extra. They may not be as cute or energetic, and their fur may be a mess, but it happens to everyone. Give them love and cherish every moment because that's all they have.

And since my stinky old beast just ripped a particularly foul one, I'm taking him for a walk now lest we have a repeat of yesterdays poo time trauma.

My dog once peed the bed and he felt so bad he ran and hid in the closet under my piles of clothes. I wasn't mad at all but after cleaning and changing the sheets, no matter what I did, he wouldn't get back in the bed. I'm not sure if it was just me anthropomorphizing the situation but he looked ashamed, wouldn't keep eye contact, wouldn't budge from his hiding spot. So, I slept on the floor with him. He never peed in my bed again but I'd like to hope he knows I'd sleep on the floor again with him if I needed to.

Gotta love a creature with the ferocity it loves you, in my opinion. =]

I admire your love and dedication to your furry loved one! Pick him up and carry him onto the bed every chance you get and hold him tight with love and reassurance. You really get it man! Cheers!!!

Two pugs in my house. We have a nearly 13 year old fawn one named Madi and a 5 year old black one named Lucy.

Anyone who had ever owned a pug knows that you don't own them, they own you!

What we don't put up with?!?!

For one thing, these dogs don't ask to go out like normal friggin dogs! You have to keep letting them out on a schedule or well, you know....

And the snoring in bed. Both of them going at the same time is like a snoring symphony!

But like many dog owners out there I wouldn't know what to do without them!

Madi is getting older now and she is starting to show her age a bit the last year or so. I tell my wife and kids to savor every day with her because she won't be here forever.
