Stainless steel question - max temp? melting? off gass?

Just bought a DBV and love it...

I am wondering if the screens used on vaporizers, which are usually stainless steel, do they off gas at a certain temperature?

I wonder how hot the screens are getting since they are sitting back from the heating element, but hot air is still passing through...and the air is hot enough to vape the buds...

I have no way of knowing how hot the DBV is getting, I guess they are all different. I wonder if the DBV is hot enough to cause the stainless steel screen to release chemicals or fumes into the vapor.

I got rid of my pax because I didn't want to keep inhaling out of the stainless steel oven...I felt like I got chest pains when using the pax. And chest pains are a symptom of metal fume fever...long term effects are even worst.

Are you sure? Do you know what temp stainless would be giving off fumes? From my understanding stainless can give off chromium, although I can't find at what temp this happens.

I also don't know how hot the actual vapes get, mine is the DBV..

Metal fume fever is essentially totally irrelevant to vaporizing.

Metal fume fever is from inhalation of metal oxide (combusted metal) particles. Stainless steel will oxidize, "fume" or smoke, such as if heated with a welding torch. But stainless is not going to do anything - neither oxidize nor vaporize - at rather wimpy vaporizer, common baking, etc. temperatures. Vaporizer temperatures are just at the minimum temperature to rapidly evaporate/boil essential oils (liquids), and have no effect on stainless steel (that's why it's used).

I am a crazy person when it comes to metals(GO AWAY ALUMINUM!) and yeah it's safe at that temp, personally I would take SS over most metals.

Wonder why your PAX did that to you? Hmm....odd.

Well in my case, the DBV is for herb not oils. I haven't been able to find anything on how hot DBV is actually getting...

I know the aluminum wouldn't melt but I would think it can still giving off fumes of chromium or something when heated...I would especially think at the high temp of the vape, that metal is getting super hot...

I'm trying to understand the temps when this happens but unfortunately I don't know the DBVs temps.

I had the same concern a while ago so I asked a PhD in materials science to which he replied
Stainless steels tend to form adherent and self healing surface oxides which give them excellent oxidation resistance and corrosion resistance. There are certainly ways that the oxide films can break down. However, the oxides tend to be incredibly stable and therefore are unlikely to produce hexavalent Cr (the carcinogenic version) by heating.

I was asking about the safety of stainless steel mesh wicks in ecigs when used with resistance wire coils, which can heat up to 1200c. But under normal use wouldn't reach anywhere near those temps especially with a saturated wick. Seems even less of an issue if were talking about stainless steel in a vape that shouldn't go over 500f. He also said that to give a truly definitive answer testing would obviously be needed.
