Possible Fake TI

Hey I recently bought my first Ti nail from a local dispensary in seattle, was told by them that this was medical grade 2 ect ect that they got it from a local supplier and the fact that i was paying a good 60 for it reassured me at the time that it wasn't a cheap metal or something. Now after doing some research online i feel a bit sketched out due to the apparently excessive amount of fake nails going around the internet. (also found out medical grade is a misnomer, was told that grades 1-4 are commercially pure titanium)

Iv been using the nail for about a month, usual discoloration of blues purples and yellows iv been told about, no degredation of the ti itself, but occasionally it smells of a strange metallic scent (using propane to heat the nail) after heating and has a odd black layer on top of the nail that is always present after a dab despite how many times i clean it. My friend thought it might just be the leftover residue from the erl but it was my impression that vaping oil left little to no combustion after-material.

These doubts coupled with the fact i found a chinese distributed ti nail online with design similar to my own led to me posting this and hoping someone from fc could shed some light on my situation because i honestly don't have enough experience to differentiate myself. iv attached pics of the nail from before I cleaned it, at the peak of its filth.

Dabs are vapor too!

Well, that is a Chinese copy of a Dab essentials nail. My LHS has 'em for $60 too, they go for less than $20 on ebay. I had one, didn't like it cause it sat too high. It discolored the same way yours did. It tended to have some white corrosion around the darkened area - that I didn't care for.

Hot metal always has a smell not matter what type of metal it is. Also just because its Chinese doesn't mean its not Ti. It probably is, but the question then becomes what grade are they using and how pure is it?

What he said^^^^

Shady cheap Chinese( not all I'm sure) Ti can= recycled Russian Military surplus.

I've read speculation about this before, that the surplus Ti contains Aluminum and Vanadium, but we just don't know.

Simple answer - go with quartz - cheap, durable, tastes good and no health concerns. There's a small US company called New Vape, that certifies their products are made with US sourced, pure Ti, affordable too.
http://www.new-vape.com/ They sell on ebay as custom9001, with lower prices and auctions.

There's a thread about this if you'd like to join us:

I played with the Chinese domeless nails. Couldn't get comfortable with trusting the material. It was SO worth my peace of mind to just go back to HE. I don't have time to mess with suspect TI.

Quartz and boro rule, too.

Yea pretty much what I'm feelin like, decided to splurge and ordered a infiniti off aqualabs. Was wondering if its safe to use the china nail till the HE arrives?, because it seems to show signs of normal ti but i guess theres no real way of telling without a certificate or something.

Appriciate the link and extra info, decided to pickup one of those domeless as a backup since theyre pretty damn affordable compared to the competition.

Even the certificates can be useless and faked. I used my titanowl while I waited for the Dualiti, but I tell you, I feel much more comfortable with HE. They don't mess around.

So yeah, go for it. And if you get Alzheimer's, be sure to come back and let us all know. If you can remember. ;)

Edit: That last part was a joke. Wish there was a [joke] [/joke] tag.
