Showbox (better than Netflix)

Hey everyone I recently found the most amazing android app. It is called Showbox and it is a free app that MANY people have not heard of because it is not in the Google Play store. You can get it directly from the developers website.

http://media-apps.cc/android/

This will work on any android device. I guarantee that you will enjoy this app and use it like crazy. Just make sure to use it with wifi because you will burn through your data real fast

Watch out for any permissions it asks for. Why does this program need my "precise location"? I wouldn't use this on my phone, just my :2c:. Most of the info i read quickly on Showbox, was about people talking about how to use privacy blockers and permission blockers with this program, if you need to do that, then this is in NO WAY better than Netflix.

Why is it that every time I try to share something cool with people on here the first person to say something is always someone who has not even tried it but wants to knock it? This happened when I started my free Pandora One thread until finally the uninformed person telling people to watch out for me tried the app. Then they were forced to admit how legit it was.

@Silver420Surfer why don't you actually try this before you try to tell people not to? Do you make money off of Netflix and don't want people using a free alternative with more content

This is a free video streaming app. It can work on ANY android device. It does not have to be your phone if you are some sort of tweak. It offers a ton of movies and shows with many things avaliable in high definition. You can even use it from a computer with a android emulator. I recommend Bluestacks.

I have my computer hooked up to my TV for the ultimate entertainment system and now that I have discovered Showbox I feel like it is truly complete.

There is also a way to use Chromecast and a app called Localcast in order to play Showbox on your TV if you don't have a computer hooked up to your TV. I have not used this method but have a friend who does

I don't have Netflix anymore but when I did they had lots of stuff. I am not saying Netflix is bad or lacks content but they seem to shuffle things that they have on there. They might add a season of something while removing a different one. They rarely have new movies. There is a strange phenomenon with people who have Netflix where they will talk about something that just got added like it is new when it is only new to Netflix. It has been in existence for years but Netflix just got it so it is new to them. Showbox has actual new movies and shows and updates DAILY. They are constantly adding both new and old content. I have only had it for a couple weeks and it has grown a ton.

Seriously try it out and give a user review. If you don't like it you can always delete it. What do you have to lose? Nothing

Another method of getting it onto your TV is a micro HDMI to standard HDMI cable.

For example my Kindle fire hd has a micro HDMI output. I purchased one of these cables off eBay and now I can watch and play my Kindle on my TV.

So if you have any android device with a micro HDMI you can also use this method

@blankrider-- Can't take criticism, then I would suggest to not post on a public forum. Is my opinion not allowed to be expressed, just like yours?
Nothing I said in my post attacked you personally whatsoever. No smart@ss comments(ahem), or degrading remarks, something i suggest you work on. You're right, I did not "install" this. When I went to, it asked for "permissions" on my phone, that quite frankly, it doesn't need to have, to work. There are TONS of websites that do the SAME thing without asking for any special permissions. Why wouldn't you mention in your original post that this program would ask for specail "permissions"? Do you make $$ off of Showbox?

Tons of threads on here discussing "safety" of vapes(materials used, etc), I can't in good conscience, not alert my fellow FC'ers of the possible "safety" issues of this program. I don't feel I have violated any social rules by expressing concern.

Just a small sample.

I have over 20 years professional experience in IT and I can't tell you how many times "junior" was telling how great Kazaa, or Limewire, warez sites were/are and how smart he was, all the while his parents were paying us top dollar to "clean up" their L337 child's pc and or home network. Take it for what it's worth FC. I cut the cord on cable, and have no problems watching any of my shows/series, WITHOUT giving up any of my security.

No I don't make money off of Showbox. It is free for everyone to enjoy. If you choose not to enjoy it that is fine, but please do not come here and give negative reviews to things you have not even tried.

Anyone on here who has actually tried Showbox please feel free to give your feedback

Edit: if it makes you feel any better I agree with you about how sketchy Limewre and Kazaa were

Yeah if you are ordering lots of stuff from amazon then amazon prime is pretty cool and can indeed be worth the $99 a year.

At the same time I am sure that there is at least one thing that you want that is not on there.

Why not give Showbox box a try? Then you could give us your comparison of it to these other services

@stickstones how is it working for you? What shows and movies were you happy to find? Or does it totally suck and I wasted your time

Okay I bit. I run android apps in a sandbox, and my personal data is carried through ipsec VPN.

The streaming speed is slower than Netflix, which in turn is slower than Amazon Prime. Odd, given both are hosted on AWS. On the other hand, showbox lets me download the entire episode or movie to local storage!

They have content that isn't on Netflix, and that alone earns OP kudos.

I do not know if showbox is paying licensing fees for any of this content, and I'm skeptical of the longevity of any illegal activity. Like a killer black-market weed-connect, I am going to enjoy it while I can.

location and phone state is information I'm willing to give up, although thanks to my sandbox this app provides spoofed data to the developers.

You Must Unlearn, What You Have Learned...
@blankrider -- i'll give it a run later. Thanks for sharing! I have a computer hooked up to my tv as well and need to figure out how to watch football on it this fall. Let me know if you get that one figured out!

I have gotten it to work through BlueStacks. Unfortunately, once a video started playing it would have a green box around it. I did choose internal player.

To install through Bluestacks I had to install Chrome, then download the app, it wasn't as smooth of a process as it sounds.

I was pretty unsatisfied then and was going to write more negative things but I decided to at least try the Chromecast option. Installed the same way, through Chrome, but on my actual phone this time, and I also installed LocalCast. (I think my new favorite CC app) I was a bit skeptical about it actually working with Chromecast but when you deselect internal player you can choose LocalCast as an option and just click the Chromecast button in the corner. I haven't noticed any green lines and the quality looked slightly improved. But Bluestacks could have had an issue with my PC's resolution.

After more testing I will say that Netflix clearly will provide better quality for the same show or movie, these films appear to be coming from a database similar to torrents but it does make it simple and the interface is straightforward. Sadly you'll be faced with some ad "mini games" (really just ads) you'll have to press the 'X' in the corner and it will immediately go away allowing you to continue. Could be worse, you could actually have to wait or make a difficult decision on which x is going to make this ad go away.

I was thinking your original goal was to waste my time when I was first testing with BS. That would have been a nice turn of events.

In comparison to Popcorn Time I do prefer Showbox, while I don't face ads with Popcorn Time I've noticed films unavailable there and the speed of Showbox through my Android has actually been quite fast. I don't think Showbox is better with quality or chooses the best video file to play but I feel most of these type of applications and services have these faults. Popcorn Time has continuously played some incorrect episodes, along with Netflix getting them out of order.

Thanks @blankrider, you have introduced me to two great apps I feel I would have not found quick enough.

All right, @blankrider, I'll bite.

What content can you get through this that I can't get through Netflix? Or, let's say even Amazon Prime?

EDIT: Or is it just that it's free?

Show Box is basically a file-sharing app. It gets its content from VK.com, which is a social network popular in Europe and particularly Russia. VK.com is nominally DMCIA compliant but apparently users upload a lot of copyrighted material anyway and it stays up for a while. This means the content list changes frequently and contains a lot of pirated movies and shows. This is why the app isn't in the Play store any more.

FC has a rule against discussing "warez" or content piracy. That's why we removed the free Pandora thread. This thread is on thin ice. Although there is at least some legitimate content available through VK.com, I suspect that most of the activity there involves copyright infringement. Obviously Google felt that there was enough of that to kick Show Box out of the Play store. If you are getting something like Game of Thrones through Show Box, you're pirating it.

To everyone: If you want this thread to remain, you would be wise to avoid any discussion of what content you can get and stick to technical issues.

Just like to mention that they have a version for the iphone too. It's called movie box, have been using it for over a year now and I love it. And with an Apple TV can stream to the tv.

Hi, I installed showbox on my laptop and it works fine. I only have one thing [at this moment] why I don’t like it and perhaps you have an idea if there is a solution to this. On my phone it shows the movie filling up the whole screen but on my laptop it doesn’t an I can’t stand seeing a movie with a partial screen filled. Is this just how showbox is on computers or is there a way I can make showbox fill the entire screen when playing movies?

Thanks in advance.

Cord cutter here and I am hesitant of apps for the above reasons and 30 years of being paranoid have served me well. I like sling TV best anyways. Pick a channel. Done.

Why can't I get any movies to actually play?
Outdated app? I suggest google searching for Cartoon HD (app) or Movie HD (app). Those are my current choices. Should be the first website google gives you if you mention app. Not available in the Play Store.

Still using localcast, just choose the custom option when you play and localcast would be an option.

Edit:
...actually, what are you using and on what.
