Cannabis as Cancer Treatment

I really wish I didn't have to start this thread. A close family member has been diagnosed stage 3 cancer, surgery already chemo starting before long. Of course I start to think about cannabis and simpson oil, even though I doubt it'll be tried. But it did start me researching it, and I'd like to share my thumbnail sketches of a potential treatment. If I've made any errors please feel free to correct. I'm just trying to learn, not be too precise at this point.

From what I've read the cancer protocol for hemp/simpson/hope oil calls for 60grams treatment. It appears that THC is the active ingredient in fighting tumors. So what is this hemp oil? As far as I can tell, it's good bud that has been extracted in solvent. Sounds like another name for concentrates, honey oil, wax, etc. I'm assuming here that simpson oil and bho are equivalent in terms of thc levels.

My back-of-the-napkin calculation is for six weeks treatment, 10grams oil per week, or 1.4g/day. I also became interested in spreading the cancer protocol between oil and flowers. For this I'm assuming 20% thc herb and 75% thc for oil (just for rough calculation, or around 1g oil = 3.5g herb)

Before I suggest trying this protocol, I want to try a part of it myself, so I can intelligently speak about it. I have pretty high tolerance, but almost a gram and a half of oil every day sounds demanding.

Starting tomorrow I will begin this modified simpson protocol. The options for each day are

1. all oil - 1.4g oil
2. 2/3 oil, 1/3 flower - 1g oil + 1.5g flower
3. 1/2 oil, 1/2 flower - .75g oil + 2.5g flower
4. 1/3 oil, 2/3 flower - .5g oil + 3g flower
5. all flower - 5g flower

Each option is designed to approximate thc levels of 1.5g oil. Options 2 and 4 look easiest to me. Oil will be dabbed or vaped. Flowers will be vaped. Simpson calls for ingesting the oil, but my assumption is vaping will be sufficient.

Normally I would ramp someone up to that daily amount, but for my self-experiment, I'll just jump in, as I am on vacation next week. I won't be taking a lot of time to find the cheapest sources of material or attempt to produce oil since it's just for a week. I want to see how difficult it is to function while taking this amount of medicine. Then I'll be in a better position to understand before I approach any family members.

Wish me luck.

I am sorry to hear this! Prayers and best wishes in your search for a remedy.

Just want to point out that in regards to ingestiing vs. Inhaling, don't believe they are equivalent. I think there's a good amount of thc lost upon exhaling. More absorbed in the system when ingesting.

So sorry to hear this. Cancer is a word no one ever wants to hear in relationship to anyone they know.

I've been doing some reading and there are some people who swear that using feco (which is tincture that has been greatly reduced) has helped anything from inflammation to more serious ailments, including cancer and alzheimers. You may want to look into that too. Some people ingest and some are even using in suppository form. The pain relief, etc., are supposed to be greatly enhanced. I haven't tried this myself, but do know of someone who has, orally, with good results for pain and inflammation.

Just thought I'd throw this into the mix.

Best of luck to you and your family member.

Thanks for the well wishes you both, and that's a very good point Dave. I wish there was an easy way to convert effectiveness/thc absorption from flowers to concentrates to edibles. I'll still carry on with the experiment, if only to see how high thc doses are tolerated by me. Wish me luck, and time to start medicating!

I will look into the FECO. Sounds like a soak as opposed to quick wash. Thanks for the tip.

Glad to help and wishing you luck in this quest!

One day, when Cancer is finally beaten down by this miraculous plant, we can all celebrate (then yell out to the World how WE TOLD THEM SO!)

@grokit thanks for the idea. It's colon cancer. I love my family, but I'm not going there with topicals.

Wanted to swing by with a small update. Not sure exactly what I'm searching for, but I believe...

1. That cannabis produces effects that are beneficial to secondary effects of cancer treatment such as managing nausea and producing an environment conducive to rest. Many medical cannabis users are familiar with these benefits. We're talking about vaporization flowers for this.

2. That cannabis extract oil may produce positive effects towards tumor reduction and producing an environment inhospitable to cancer. Most often taken orally, 1g day/60 days. RSO protocol.

The question is, can THC be delivered through vaporization at levels necessary to produce beneficial effects in for a cancer patient in terms of #2? Then asking, how much flower would a person have to vape to approach the THC levels that ingesting cannabis oil gives (#2)? Is eating cannabis really the only or best way?

I need to find numbers that can indicate how much THC is available to a person via ingestion vs vaporization of oil vs vaporizaion of flower. But I haven't yet because...

...the experiment this week has been challenging but a good learning experience. Tuesday I went the route of trying edibles, 3 of them totally 1000mg THC. Not easy taking the third does while the second two are still in effect. Rest of week different combos of oil and flower. I added 25% more flower than originally planned for good measure. It felt easier and more measured than edibles. It did take more paying attention to dosing every few hours for the day and night when dabbing and vaping, but felt like I was more functional than with edibles.

Here I salute any patient that has taken cannabis oil via any means at doses this high. It's a job in itself, and a real challenge sometimes.

One question I'd like to answer is... are the heavy effects of edibles because more THC is being made available, or does it feel so strong for some other reason?

Glad I've done the experiment this week. It gives me a lot more info to go on when sitting down with my family member. Hopefully I can introduce vaping first for its anti-nausea, then go from there. He may not even be open to it all, but if so I want to be ready to help.

‎CBD has also been demonstrated to exert achemopreventive effect in a mouse model of colon cancer.

Very simply, when THC connects to the CB1 or CB2 cannabinoid receptor site on the cancer cell, it causes an increase in ceramide synthesis which drives cell death. A normal healthy cell does not produce ceramide in the presence of THC, thus is not affected by the cannabinoid.‎

The anti-cancerous properties come from CBD and other various cannabinoids by modulating or bodies endo-cannabinoid receptors to activate different healing processes within our bodies. My father healed his stage 2 prostate cancer the doctors wanted to start biopsies and treatment for. In less then 3 months all the growths on his prostate totally disappeared and his prostate returned to it's normal size. He also experienced his blood pressure lowering into a normal range, a drop in bad cholesterol and a rise in good, along with minor aches and pains disappearing like neck pain. He was using Rick Simpson oil.

I have used RS Oil and can attest to witnessing the merits of using cannabis oil for cancer treatment. I can also attest that using Ricks method for extraction is what I would consider far from perfect. The chlorophyll in the oil was overpowering and unpleasant, with large doses seemed to upset my stomach a bit. Mine was made with iso using Ricks method. If i was to do it again i would either do a qwiso or bho and decarb my oil. I really don't think in this case though that you have to use a solvent extraction, as long as you are up-taking mass quantities of cannabinoids the more the better. Solvent extracted oil just makes it easier to intake those quantities, imo you could make really strong coconut oil or butter and eat it it regularly it would just be more time consuming and not feasible for some who are really sick. Good luck

Bad form to quote yourself but I all the pertinent info is there and i am feeling lazy and want to start this vape sesh :p . I don't know how well vaping will deliver the heavier cannbinoids that may be necessary for some of the healing effects. I would try edible administration primarily and supplement with vaping IMO. What ever happens I wish you the best and if need any one to talk to feel free to drop me a pm. :peace:

Hasn't anybody mentioned Rick Simpson oil or the shona banda method? I've been thinking about extracting cannbinoids with heat lately. Distillation?

Updating this old thread to mention my new favorite high-cbd strain, pennywise. I can get .5g carts but they're still expensive, started at $100 $90 $80 now so at least it's moving in the right direction. I love how these carts make me feel, maybe a little too much because I can cash one out in a weekend.

Also charlotte's web by the stanley brothers; their highest potency extract (olive oil) is called everyday advanced. An oz is $150 at my doctor's office or online, I don't think there's anything stronger. The taste isn't too bad once you get used to it, and it also comes in chocolate mint which I have not tried.

The drawback to legalization in my state - WA is the afterthought about medical cannabis. So much medical cannabis products and advise is gone or too expensive. That cost for the CBD is so expensive for just 2 days up above in your post @grokit. Most medical users are heavy users. The edibles are too expensive for patients. We have 21 year old stoners for the most part as budtenders. They know nothing about medical.

All the mom and pop home businesses that were making edibles for the most part is gone. They are being made by large companies. it’s $30 for 100mg of medicated candy.

Legal weed is good because we are getting it checked out for mold etc....but it’s not all good.

@CarolKing it's hard for old white guys that want to be budtenders! I'm actually trying to get a position somewhere myself and the only offer so far is to manage a shop that wants to expand their hours to midnight, in a rough neighborhood. Luckily I'm having better luck as a weed journalist, a gig I ironically hooked up with at the cannabis employment gathering that got me certified for $100. I just want a part-time gig now to compliment my new journalist reality, and also leave me some time for volunteering.

I think I have the edibles figured out, just use straight distillate even though it's 'not to be eaten'. Up here we can get ~440mg of the stuff for $60, then we just put a bunch on top of a cookie or something.

The charlotte's web cbd extract that I posted lasts much longer than that cbd cart does, about a month using it twice daily. I just like the cart so much that I think it could replace everything else if I had the $
