Hi there, I have never vaped before and am looking to start soon but want to do it safely. Can you please recommend me some vaporizers that are safe to use and have no adverse affects from usage? The most I can spend on a vaporizer right now is $230 including shipping to Canada. Thank You.

Portable:
Arizer Solo. Solid performer, but falls short when compared to plug-in units. Available for ~$130

Plug-in:
Arizer Extreme Q. Digital, temperature controlled unit with a remote. Can be used with a whip (direct draw through a tube) or fill bags with vapor. Available for ~$150

Da Buddha. More powerful whip vape, capable of combustion temps (good if you plan on vaping a lot of hash). Available for ~$150

Log vape (e.g. Enano, HI, Underdog). Easy to use, usually have one set temperature, small bowl is good for solo use, can be left on 24/7, wood construction is discreet and classy. Available for ~$200.

Trust in the Solo! Excellent performance and the money is right! You'll have enough left over to buy some extra doodads like a small water bubbler, stem, & Gong. Very highly recommended for beginners and vape aficionados alike! Enjoy!!!

If you go with the Solo you can use it as a desk top as well as a portable. You can buy different stems to fit your needs and whatever mood you are in. If the battery ever needs replacing you can do that yourself no need to send it back to the company. The Solo has a 2 year warranty 1 year on the battery. You can vaporize herbs as well as waxes, just use a bit of cotton and you are off to the races.

Recently the Solo's features have been upgraded to a better air flow and you can use and charge at the same time. The battery life is 2+ hours in the beginning, it will degrade over time. The Solo thread has a lot of useful ideas and a lot of nice folks that will help to steer you in the right direction.

The Solo is a very sturdy unit and has been on the scene for 3+ years. It's very reasonably priced at around $130 - $160. It's about the size of a can of Red Bull. If you buy with Puffitup they may do a price match and they pay for shipping. If for some reason you need to send it back Puffitup will send a barcode online that you can print out so you won't have to pay to ship it back. No hassles with PIU.

I'm very glad you decided to take the very first step to a healthier life. Good luck in your journey and welcome.

TL/DR, too many threads exactly like this on the forum

The Airizer solo seems to be the best portable vape on the market for the average user.

Yes there are many options, and I'm sure you'll want to try them all once you've fallen in love with vaporizing. But for now, start with the Airizer Solo.

It's ugly, I know - I passed the Solo over looking for something a bit 'sexier' looking for my first vape. Which I found, but that $250 vape doesn't perform nearly as well as some other vapes in the same price range

Don't be fooled into thinking you need a digital temperature control for vaping. It's cool and all, but I can achieve the same results (if not better) using my other vapes which have no accurate temperature control (one is powered by a butane torch, the other is powered by a simple 120v PWM voltage dimmer switch)

I've had the solo and the e-nano and a few others this is my opinion for you.
This is your first vaporizer. You want something powerful to help you transition into vaping. Don't go with a portable for now. Get a desktop vaporizer. Check out the e-nano thread and see if it fits your needs. Its in your price range. For 250$ get yourself an e-nano and a cheap bong. Later on you will upgrade gass and/or buy a portable after you get used to the high, and learn to truly appreciate vaping.

For a first time vaper, I disagree about getting a desktop before portable, unless the desktop is as simple to operate as the Solo. The Solo is incredibly efficient, durable, easy to use, and I must say ideal for many first time vapers (I had not vaped or smoked before using it, and didn't need any help figuring it out).

Since @troubledblazing is Canadian, I highly recommend using planetvape.ca - especially if you're going to go with the Solo (and possibly accessories in the future). Great retailer and you don't have to deal with potential customs issues (doubly important if you need to deal with returns, you don't want "contaminated" pieces crossing the border). But don't take my word for it, they've got plenty of satisfied customers around here.

Thank You all for your answers, I guess I will either have to go with a log vape or the Arizer Solo.
Why? Because the 1st 6-8 responses suggested those? You have the option of taking these suggestions as a starting point and doing some reading (looking at some youtube vids can also be very helpful) in the vape threads in order to figure out which models are going to suit you. Do you want/need a portable? If not, I would certainly get an AC model vs. messing with the extra hassle and expense of batteries or butane. If you do want a portable, do you want one that's pocket friendly and stealthy? If so you should look further than the Solo, which is half portable-half home unit. Do you think you'll want to use water filtration with a home vape? If so, some are more ready for glass than others. Speaking of glass, the Vapolution 2.0 Purity Package mentioned by stickstones provides an all glass vapor path (something very few can claim) and is one of the best values on the market.

How much you want to look before you leap is up to you. The info is here.

Disagree, from my friends experiences and mine, I can tell you that first time vapers with high tolerance for THC much prefer a desktop vape. The solo just takes too much time to finish a bowl. Can they make due with the solo? Yes, but it will take them much more time to get high, and cause for a not so easy transition into vaping. If you have a lower tolerance the solo is sufficient. IMO
I see you never smoked before vaping so that explains why the solo worked great for you.

Well said...

If this helps at all I bought my Arizer Solo about a year ago and LOVE IT. It's my only vape and it does everything I need it to and it does it brilliantly, great clouds of thick vapor, VERY simple to use, simple to clean, it is truly a marvel of engineering combined with intelligently designed functionality.

If I had any complaint about it at all it would be the battery life, which I do wish could be longer; but I bought the separate power adapter so I wouldn't have to recharge it to use it (BUT the new solos can do BOTH off the included adapter!).

I'm not at all bothered by the start up time of the Solo, which really isn't THAT long (usually in less than a minute I'm vaping clouds out of it). I'm also not at all bothered by the resistance the Solo has when you draw off of it, it's really just not that big of a deal. And as far as it not being as "stealth" as vapes such as the Pax or the Magic Flite Launchbox, honestly that's not a big deal to me either, it's just not something that comes into play that often when I use the vape. 95% of the time I vape I do it at home. However I have vaped in public with it at the beach and in the park and camping, and on every occasion no one ever had any clue of what I was doing. So it's plenty stealthy for me.

That said, best of luck in your search :)

You need to take that extra step and do some studying on the top few vapes you may be interested in.

Don't take our word for it. These are just our opinions. I know it's hard to try out other vapes because not that many people vape yet, because that would be the best way. I have gotten vaporizers that I wish I hadn't bought. Sometimes it is trial and error.

Go with something that is easy to use and that's been on the market for a while.

While I am not going to disagree with your assessment of going from combustion to vape in one fell swoop, specifically for one who may have a "high tolerance", I CAN tell you that my experience and that of my 'convert' friends did just that and never looked back - and that was with the Solo in every instance. Further, it has been our experience that a high tolerance level can be rather easily and quickly mitigated by either reducing consumption over time, or abstaining for a short period not usually longer than a few days. I would hope that all here who imbibe the good herb need not be so dependent that a few days away or a little less causes any discomfort. Further, among my friends are those who do both alternately, and report that not only do they get maximum effect from the Solo, but with greater appreciation for feeling less foggy! No one ever complained that it took a minute or so to get there! They all loved the function & form factor of the Solo. Each now has one of their own and LOVE it! Accordingly, I maintain that the Solo is perfect for home or away, with excellent effect!

Oh, I did it with the solo as well. Like I said it can be done, its just that when you first switch from smoking you're looking for something to get you high quickly because that's how combustion is. Its just that the desktop would be a bit of a smoother transition for someone with a high tolerance. I used to smoke almost an 1/8th everyday. started out with the mflb which took me like an hour to get high, solo achieves it in like 24 minutes (2 sessions for me). E-nano? 5 minutes.
Also keep in mind they're going to want to experiment with high temperatures(200-230 Celsius) .

TroubledBlazing, without meaning to overwhelm you with too much info, another vape you might want to consider in your research is the Pinnacle or the Pinnacle Pro. I've been reading a lot about that one lately and the price seems to be competitive with that of the Solo. I've never used it so I can't vouch for it based on personal experience. But the Vapefiend guys loved it in this review comparing it to other portables (including the Solo). If I were to buy a 2nd vape I might consider it. Anyway, hope this helps.

Adding to your point and mine, for the OP, whichever the choice, it will likely not be the last - as once one discovers the subtleties and beauty of vaping, one will probably build a small arsenal of favorites. One usually never looks back to combustion once bitten by the vape!

EDIT: One additional point - "transition" smansition - on short order it becomes irrelevant to the long term scheme of things. After a few sessions with the Solo, for example, one will get a very desirable effect, and will go back for more time and time again - the problem (if one can call it that) is solved. A new appreciation for herb is realized, and with greater, healthier, and more pleasurable effect while using less.
