MyDx - Analyzer for Cannabis.

I just recently came accross this device!
Has anyone else done any research into these new types of devices? I've seen one other similar device, the SCiO

For the MyDx, apparently the company is based in San Diego & just crowdfunded $40,000 (2x their goal) on Indiegogo 2 months ago.

I believe it works using some kind of optical spectrometer. One downside is that the sensor needs replacing every 6 months or so.

MyDx for Cannabis - $400

When presented with a sample of cannabis, MyDx will deliver a strain analysis revealing the abundance of medically relevant cannabinoids such as THC & CBD, whose ratios have been shown to play a key role in how a specific strain makes people feel. The Canna sensor is also being programmed to look for a class of compounds known as the “terpenoids”, which give each strain of cannabis its unique smell, and in synergy with the other compounds found in Cannabis, further contribute to the overall medical effect of the plant.

Wow! I've been reading up on their website. If this thing really works well, I would definitely get one. I could see this becoming standard issue for dispensaries. It also could be popular among home growers and concentrate makers. It could really cut into the business of independent testing labs, again, it it works well. I don't remember seeing any accuracy claims.

The app display showing happiness/sadness and sexuality levels for different strains seems a bit sketchy to me, but I would really love being able to measure the THC and CBD levels in my bud and concentrates. They also claim to be able to test for mold and some pesticides.

Looks like it's scheduled for release around the end of the year. So still lots of time for things to develop. I don't think i'll be preordering but I'll definately be keeping my eye on this.

edit: I see now that they are claiming 20% accuracy initially, improving eventually to 5%.

edit2: Now that I think about it, 20% accuracy is not that impressive. Suppose you measure a sample of bud and the result is 20% THC. That means that your bud may be anywhere from 16% to 24% THC. This wide of a range is not that helpful IMO. This range covers mid-shelf to top shelf strains and so really winds up not telling you much about the strength. 5% accuracy tho would be awesome.

Ahh, good catch. Definitely agree - hopefully the technology can improve to make the accuracy more reasonable.
