Nail Question/ First Real Oil Rig

So I just got a male/female 14/18mm domeless nail from my lhs for $70. Only thing is I don't know the manufacturer. Neither did the kid working at the shop hahaha. I threw it on my piece and took a low temp dab. I noticed it turned blue/rainbow as it cooled. Does this mean it's real titanium or of a higher grade titanium? My previous nail was a highly educated flux, but I gave it to a friend. I will post some pics in a bit.

The second thing is I'm looking to invest in a nice oil rig. The smaller the better. Looking to spend 200-350 max. Was looking at Toro macros and some Hamm stuff. Anyone want to weigh in and suggest a piece?

RE: nail,
TI turns blue/purple/gold as part of the oxidation process. The higher the heat, and the less gradually it is heated, the more the color change. You also tend to see the oxidation jumpstart when you first get it and really torch it.
Can read more here: http://www.highlyeducatedti.com/blog/?p=155

If you want a high-quality, seriously small oil rig - I would look into Beer Glass and see if any of his rigs strike your fancy (Steve Beer).

I saw a beautiful beer piece on aqua. How do they function? I had a small recycler with a mini diffused downstem. It clogged so quickly, so I got rid of it. As far as functionality, how do toro macro, beer glass, and Hamm sidecars compare?

What about any of these pieces 360 or cheaper?

But I dig the marbles and general look of this piece and it's priced very well. How does it function?

That's a toro macro. Where did you get it and what did you pay? I only ask because there are Chinese counterfeits of that exact piece with the single mac and black lip/base. Hopefully that's a legit one or you didn't pay too much. If you post or pm me a picture of the perc close up and the 90°corner on the down stem I can compare them to my mac 8, not a definitive answer but the work that comes out of toro is very high quality and tough for Chinese glass blowers to get just right.

Got it from inner eye in nj. Paid 400. They had 3 of these. A black one, light purple, and clear red. They also had 2 2-chamber Toros.

Probably a good sign that they had other toros then. I doubt someone would risk screwing up their contract with toro to make a few extra bucks on counterfeits, especially since toro is such a popular/desirable brand.

Yeah it's definitely real. So is it just a Toro macro or macro xl? The perc has two holes on both sides,so a total of four holes. I'll add more pics later.

You're right it is the macro xl. That is the standard perc that toro uses for the macro and macro xl is technically the can size not the perc style, everyone just refers to that as the macro perc though. The macro xl is a little wider than the macro and a little narrower than the micro.

TM stands for unregistered trademark. It could mean that the company has a registered trademark pending, or that they just didn't want to pay the registered tm fees.

Lol yeah I know that, but I haven't seen other toro's with it. I don't know the year my Toro was made, but I just want to make sure it's real. Should I contact Toro?

Why are you so suspicious that it's a fake? What do you plan on doing if you find out it is a fake?

If you got it from a legit headshop that has other brand name glass (Illadelph, HiSi, etc.) then it's probably real. But even if it isn't you won't get your money back so might as well pretend it's real.

Yeah they sell all those brands plus local artist artists and David Goldstein. They confirmed it was real too.

My toro has a tm also, I think most do now. Not having a tm is actually slightly more desirable to a collector because they are more rare.
I should apologize for scaring you about the fakes, yes there are some out there that look like yours but there aren't any that look like the other toros at the same shop you described. That alone should be enough to ease your fears about it, but chances are you would be able to tell anyway, the fakes will have air bubbles, sloppy welds, crooked mouthpiece or percs which you will not find on a real toro. From a distance or picture it can be hard to spot a fake but up close it should be pretty obvious. If you aren't sure what you are looking for, go to a LHS and look at the cheapest scientific pieces they have then look closely at the quality (or lack of quality) compared to your toro, I guarantee you will see the difference then

Yeah I was going to say I've never felt such quality just holding a piece and setting it down like this Toro, except for the custom recycler I had and a fully worked piece a friend of mine had. I also like how the perc is welded to the bottom of the can. I just need to get a travel case for it now.

Yeah I had a pelican for my recycler, but I gave it away with the recycler. I'll probably just buy another.

Dabs are vapor too!
The 4 pistol case is OOS at wallymart, much cheaper there, have to add shipping from amazon. Harbor freight makes some aluminum briefcase style boxes with dividers and foam, may have to get one of those.

I'm not an expert but I have a strong opinion

Dick's sporting goods has the plano four cases. Pretty cheap too, think like 10-13 bucks? Can't remember. Harbor Frieght's case offerings seemed kinda flimsy to me. I'm sure they would work fine but I wasn't impressed even for the price.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that, thanks! The HF cases are not bad, I have a freind who uses the heck out of them (for light stuff) and they hold up well. I like that they come with dividers, and cubed foam.

Might need to get one of those for all my small glass parts like extra gongs and wands. Never considered HF.

I got the smaller one for that. Originally held my D020, now it's gongs, stems, nails and adapters. Doesn't come with foam though. Oh, and if you go, make sure to get a 20% off coupon.
