I believe that the Zephyr Ion may be the most underrated, under marketed and best value in bag filling vaporizers currently in the market.
After much research, testing and speaking with owners of both the Volcano & the Zephyr Ion, we have decided to go with the Zephyr Ion.
Both are extremely reliable, well built and produce any quality /density of vapor that you desire, since they are both temperature adjustable.

The Zephyr Ion came out on top due to the following :
1. Simplicity of use. Sets up quickly and easily.
2. Time to reach desired Temperature. 1 - 3 minutes.
3. Superior heating method. Blowing heated air into a sealed chamber keeps the material mixing during the entire vaping process.
4. Superior efficiency. You can use smaller amounts of material, therefore saving money which will help to offset the cost of the vaporizer.
5. Bang for your Buck. ($£¥€) The Zephyr Ion costs significantly less than the Volcano. Many of our patients are on Federal or State assistance and every penny, shilling, cent of income needs to be utilized the most frugal way possible.

In summary, both products are good at what they do. The Zephyr Ion just does it better at a lower CPP, (Cost Per Puff) than the Volcano.

Comments are welcome.

Hello @MedicalCannabis I'm one of the many who use mj for health reasons in a non-legal state and have been vaping for a number of years.

I just wanted to ask why do people associate Bags with medical Use? I've used bags but see no advantage and was just wondering why people who are now training to help others with MMJ care still often lean that way. I understand using them in Clinics or lounges and such with multiple users for sanitary reasons but other then that I don't get it.

I'm guessing it might be for patients who have respiratory problems and might have difficulty inhaling through a direct draw or whip

I like the Zephyr too, but the valve isn't quite as smooth as the Volcano, IMO. Still, for the difference in price, it's a terrific bag filler.

I was always right near buying, but the whip was never established, $500 price and then the company trouble. It always had my attention though.

I have asthma issues pretty bad, and using direct draw seems to be the easiest on MY lungs. Bags actually make my lungs feel worse.. Can't tell you why. Just how it is.

Zephyr Ion is a solid vaporizer, but I would not personally pay retail price for it. It's the only vaporizer to ever draw my blood blood with its silly, lip-catching valve system :p which is certainly not as good as the Volcano's, nor as cool as the squeeze valve we're now seeing. Bag replacement is however a snap with the Zephyr, compared to say, the hassle of an Extreme Q or Volcano. Volcano has a minimum temp of, what, 250 or 300F? That's very lame, and it's wonderful that the Zephyr

If I wanted the best bags, I'd be a Cloud and rig up a bag blowing system with an aquarium pump.

If I wanted the versatility of other modes in addition to bag mode, and I wanted to save some coin, I'd go Herbalaire (~$140)

If I wanted an incredibly reliable vaporizer which will work in ten years and which will hold its resale value astoundingly well, then I'd get the Volcano.

So the only scenario where the Zephyr would really be my choice at its retail price is if I were attempting to vaporize plants that require a low temperature range, as the Zephyr offers a broad range of 100F - 440F, while the other bag blowers have much higher minimum temperatures.

I used a herbalAire for years. Works great, beats both the Zephyr and 'cano by a mile on price, and doesn't smell bad.

Regarding underrated vaporizers in general, from what I've heard about the Vapolution 2.0, it seems that that is one of the most underrated vapes on the market, eh?

Definitely. Takes some attention in loading and using, but an all glass vapor path with temp control for $100? Great buy. Lots of Vapolution 1.0's still going strong too.

Did the Zephyr guys ever get the whip option going? I know some people modded it but dual mode was what was needed. 'Bag only' is the big drawback to the Volcano.

'Bag only' is the big drawback to the Volcano.

I agree with this. The herbalizer is a great bag-filler, it heats up much quicker than a volcano (reportedly) does, but takes longer (about 3x, still only 90 seconds) to fill a bag. But for the same price as the volcano it offers other functions as well, like the ion. From this thread it seems clear that, including the ion, these are the top three bag fillers, with an honorable mention to the herbalaire for those on a budget.

The HerbalAire deserves mention for more than just being the least expensive; It also offers the most options and versatility.

HerbalAire 2.2: $140
Volcano's Pump: $60
Herbalizer Bags: $40
--------------------------

$240

Total price for a vape that heats to max in 3 minutes, blows bags exactly as fast as the Volcano, and uses the same valve system as the Herbalizer; while also offering the unique features of optimal extraction without grinding or stirring and options for filling 3 or 5 bags simultaneously. Not to mention it shines just as (or more) brightly direct to glass, through a whip, etc...

First of all, there is no best overall vape, best whip vape, best bag vape, etc., despite what some threads in here would have you believe.

While it is true that you generally get what you pay for, the world of vapourizing has taught me that this is not necessarily so.

Vapourizers such as the Vapolution, Herbalaire, 7th floor vapes, Underdog, E-nano and Solo (among others) prove that solid, reliable, functional, quality performance need not cost a few, or many hundreds more.

More expensive does not mean automatically "better", which is a subjective term to the particular user(s), although this seems to be assumed far too often, imo.

I agree that there is no "best" vaporizer for everyone. I disagree about which vaporizer is the best for bags. I've tried and owned several, and the Volcano is clearly the best bag vaporizer if price is not an object. The Volcano only does one thing, but it does that one thing more precisely and efficiently than anything else. You can debate which is the best direct draw or whip vaporizer, but IMO, theres the Volcano and then everything else when it comes to filling bags.

Manufacturer's Specified Temperature Precision Range:

4. Volcano Classic: ± 9°F (± 5°C ) --- http://volcanovaporizer.com/volcano/

3. Herbalizer: ± 5°F (± 3°C) --- http://www.herbalizer.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/SPECS-SMALL.pdf

2. Volcano Digital: ± 2.7°F (± 1.5°C) --- http://volcanovaporizer.com/volcano/

1. HerbalAire: ± 2°F (± 1°C) --- http://azarius.net/vaporizers/electric_vaporizers/vaporizer_herbalaire_/

In addition: "HerbalAire's Learning Temperature control adapts to the climate and environment where it is being used."
Can the same be said of the Volcano models?

As far as I can tell Zephyr has never listed temperature stability figures for the Ion; if anyone has a link I'd appreciate the addition.

The herbalizer is probably the most temperature-stable,
with its multiple sensors and near instantaneous recovery.

Herbalizer's manufacturer's specifications disagree: "Temperature Stability: +/- 5°F (+/- 3°C)"
http://www.herbalizer.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/SPECS-SMALL.pdf

My own and other's personal experience with the HerbalAire dictates that it never needs time to recover because it's borderline impossible to task it beyond its ability to maintain temperature.

Temperature tolerance/stability and recovery time are two different things, and the specs say nothing about recovery time. The herbalizer heats up the fastest, so its recovery time is best.
You say recovery time doesn't come into play with the herbalaire, but that is your opinion not a fact.

You mentioned best temperature-stability in addition to recovery time.
That is why I responded with the Herbalizer quote that specifically mentions temperature-stability.
I'm not looking for an argument, simply stating knowledge that is already available.

Allow me to add "experience dictates" to my previous statement about overtasking the HA.
