Legal Pot in US Is Crippling Mexican Cartels

The Washington Post reported on Tuesday that pot farmers in the Sinaloa region have stopped planting due to a massive drop in wholesale prices, from $100 per kilo down to only $25. One farmer is quoted as saying: “It’s not worth it anymore. I wish the Americans would stop with this legalization.”

Given the DEA’s relationship with Sinaloa, and the agency’s fury over legalized marijuana, it almost seems like the DEA wants to crush the legal weed market in order to protect the interests of their cartel friends. Almost.

That seems to be exactly what's happening. The DEA is full of scumbags and their leader is the biggest scumbag of them all. There's not too many women in the world that I would find great joy from punching in the face, but Michelle Leonhart is without a doubt one of them.

Here in California there is no more "mexi-weed". Last time I saw some Mexican buds, they were compacted into a dried brick! Horrible quality. This was in the year 2004-2006. In my opinion weed from the south coming into California is minimal to zero. Politicians making up BS to stir up the legalization process. Again this is only what I have been observing here in SoCal. Anyone care to correct me?

Yes and no maybe they stopped growing in mexico but have now moved over here they grow massive amounts of marijuana in many of California's national forest I'm sure they do in other states also. Cartels have already crossed your borders and are all over USA. They are extremely organized and work with well established Mexican american organizations (la eme). Weed isn't there money maker its always been heroin, coke and meth.

I think most Mexican is outdoor weed, which is not that popular any more in California. Indoor stuff is generally better quality and lower levels of dust and impurities.

That said, the drought in California this year is drastically cutting the production of local outdoor weed, which apparently often went out of state to be sold. This represents an opportunity of sorts for Mexican growers which will crest next autumn.

The place my parents are from, Michoacan, does a LOT of weed and poppies (for heroin) and meth. Interestingly enough, the cartel (La Familia Michoacana and now the quasi-religious splinter group Knights Templar [LOL]) has now (mostly) moved away from growing weed and are now in the business of illegal logging and mining. They sell most of the iron ore they get to China and it's insanely easy to pay people off for fake permits/etc. Those are their money makers now.
