Hash Oil Gummy Candy

Heard about this a while ago and always thought it'd be interesting so when someone put up a recipe on an imageboard figured I'd give it a shot.

These are by and far the easiest edibles I've ever made, no waiting/straining/any dumb bullshit. Just melt everything together and pour it out and you're done. The recipe (copied verbatim):

Hello everyone. I just made the best weed edibles I've ever seen, and I want to share my recipe, because I want the world to know of this genius. I'm also about to start selling my edibles, and I expect them to sell like hot cakes for 5$ a dose (strong enough to rock a daily smoker's face for hours).

Ingredients:
Hash oil (dabs) (3 grams makes over 50 doses in one batch)
1/2 cup cold water
100 grams of gummis (I used jolly rancher gummis, watermelon flavor only)
100 grams of flavorless gelatin mix
This recipe requires no heat activation (decarboxylation) and no lipids (fat/oil/butter)
  1. Grease a pot and then mix the cold water and gelatin mix in it.
  2. Heat the pot to around/below medium heat, add gummis, melt them down into the mix without boiling or burning them.
  3. Drop in your dabs and mix rigorously.
  4. Put in the fridge and let it cool.
  5. Voila.

And here's my personal finished product:

Awesome recipe sounds bomb, would love these for discreet medicating! Do you shape them into a bear or cube form once complete?

Nope, those circles in the tray are the gummies. After making the solution we poured it in a big ziploc bag and cut off a corner for a makeshift icing tube, then we just did little dots on some wax paper bags my girl happened to have.

If you had already have a mold it would be even easier since you would just pour it in there but we didn't have anything like that.

Damn thats a lot of yield on the right. Looks like a giant gummy bear to me except all sawed off haha. Nice recipe, how's the effects on these? Is it fast acting or slow release (30 min later)?

Oh yeah haha that thing on the right is a 5 lb gummy bear I got for my girl (real impulse buy). We were pretty much done with it so just cut off a piece, little stale but still edible.

As for potency, it's a bit of a crapshoot - you can actually see some little yellow dots (crumble that didn't melt fully) and it's definitely not evenly dispersed. Especially in this type of recipe where .01 g makes up 20% of your dose those little dots go a long way.

I think the best way to go is to not smoke until about 30 minutes after you eat these. Either that or have a beer or two with them to get em to "kick in." My tolerance is kinda weird where after my first smoke of the day I don't get any higher, just more tired/burnt out. My eyes almost never get red but the first night I tried these my eyes were fucked up, like it looked like I'd been crying like a bitch all day long.

I'm busy as fuck this week but next opportunity I have I'm gunna try eating a couple of these without smoking at all so I can see the full effects. I gave out some to my friends but I usually give kids dabs when they come through so kinda tough to tell the high apart

and a quote from my buddy, just got this text right now, "those edibles were potent as fuck bro i ate a couple more yesterday and passed out at 9"

Did he have it on an empty stomach and no sesh prior to or before the onset? I am reluctant to make some because I was planning on making it for my own personal storage. I like to collect medicine and keep them stored for long periods of time. It's like Batman's library and his awesome tech and stuff hidden away from the joker. Sorry I just watched the Dark Night today on tv. Funny robbery scene for sure I was like wtf comes next if they shot the bus driver sorry major spoiler haha but that part got me thinking like hmm. That's just how I sorta feel about attempting to make some of these babies. Nevertheless, nice recipe man I dig it!

Nah, he smoked earlier in the day but he smokes a bunch so not the type to just pass out early like that.

Really if you want something with guaranteed potency I would stick to tried and true cannabutter. If you have extra reclaim oil sitting around without a purpose then I'd say give these a shot. If you're storing them for a while these have the added bonus of never going bad (other than stale) but again, the potency is going to be pretty random.

I feel like you're losing out on a lot of potency by not decarbing or dissolving into a fat/alcohol/glycerine.

THC is not very soluble in the ingredients in your recipe, so you basically just created a suspension (and an inconsistent one from what you said). TBH I'm surprised to hear they worked.

Oil has already been decarbed while it is purged. THC is not soluble at all in gummy, that's why this is such a neat recipe, you aren't doing anything other than getting the hash oil in a more tasty/edible form (I've straight up put hash oil in gel caps and taken those before but I think this is much nicer).

Here's a quote from the original thread that explains decarbing:
"properly vacuum-purged oil becomes decarbed during the purging process, thus it's bioavailability when ingested directly. weed, which has THCA not THC, is not bioavailable when ingested unless heat is applied to pop off that carboxylic acid group to make THC in the smoke that's inhaled or in the solvent that is extracting it. Your system simply cannot get high without decarb occurring at some point."

I don't think that's completely accurate IMO. Looking at testing results for concentrates I generally see almost all thc-a particularly with stable shatters. Supercritical co2 extractions will be decarb'd by the extraction process. The clear concentrate is edible ready. RSO made the original way is also decarb'd for consumption during the long cook off of the solvent. However the majority of dabbing concentrates I see more thc-a then decarb'd thc in the oil. :2c:

Can't speak to the original creator but the stuff I used was reclaim from my healthstone (stuff that melted out the bottom) - that stuff had most definitely been decarbed.

I can't argue anything about the physical chemistry of it since I got no idea really but all I know is the creator of the recipe, his friends, my friends, and I all got sufficiently high off of them. If there really was only 8% THC in the stuff I put in then that would mean each gummy had 8% of .06 g; ie: two edibles with .0048 g pure THC is all you need to get high. And if that's the case then 1 g of The Clear would give you 208 doses. So it makes more sense to me that the oil was already decarbed.

You should have said you used reclaim- that's a major difference over freshly extracted oil, which is only minimally decarbed at best. If you're not familiar with hash making, most people don't like purging at temps higher than 120-130F.

Oops, I mentioned using reclaim in another post in the thread but I didn't think it mattered since the creator didn't mention anything.

The chart above, while interesting (gunna hold onto this for the future), refers to heating the extract under normal conditions. The reason extractors purge under vacuum is because vacuums greatly reduce the boiling point of substances (example: at 28" Hg - a normal extraction level - the boiling point of water goes from 100*C to 30C). Really if you had a nice enough vacuum chamber you wouldn't even need to heat it to decarb it.

I know how vacuums work. However lowering the pressure doesn't affect the temperature in the vacuum chamber. I believe heat is essential to the decarb process, so unless the vacuum chamber is heated to the levels in the chart I posted (at which pt you'll lose THC) the oil isn't decarbed.

Unless his vacuum chamber is at absolute zero technically there is always heat on the chamber. :D :p

I asked my girl (a chemist) and she agreed with you; I was thinking of the gas laws where PV=nRT (ie: temperature/pressure are inversely related) but she said processes have nothing to do with that and they just rely on getting enough energy (heat) to break the bonds.

So I guess it was a lucky break that I used reclaim. Though still... the original creator did get high using regular wax. A real mystery but I'm not going to worry about it too much.
