Affordable vape for oils/plant matter

Coral Reefer

New Member
Hi guys. :)

I'm new when it comes to vapourizing, I'm after an affordable vape (maybe around £150-200). It's only going to be used by myself at home. I've been looking at a few and so far the Da Vinci Ascent seems to fit the bill. What I really want is something that can produce thick(ish) vapour clouds as well as good taste. Needs to be equipped for using oils as well as herbs.

Any advice is much appreciated!

Why do you want a portable if you're only going to use it at home? While it's nice to be completely mobile, a portable, especially a pocket portable (vs. something like the half home/half portable Solo), will saddle you with battery issues down the road. Your vaping charge will decrease over time, and eventually, so will your satisfaction level unless you get the batteries replaced. An AC vape, OTOH, will eliminate this issue and will likely provide many years of service with no battery degradation issue or the additional cost. It's something to consider. If you're set on a portable though, and will be using only at home, the Solo would easily win the poll for that category of battery operated vape. It really is the closest thing to a home vape among the portable choices.

It doesn't really need to be portable to be honest but I'll be mainly using it with oil/wax and haven't really considered AC vapes as an option. Can you use oils with those types? Like Da Buddha etc?

It's not an easy question to answer. In my experience vapes have developed for flowers and oils, but not many do both well.

A lot of flower vapes like Da Buddha or MFLB have oil attachments available. Some people vape oils off of cotton or SS wool through a flower vape. I might look at a Solo or e-Nano. Both solid choices, though both are more used for herbs than oils. For oils I stick with portable pens. At the upper end of your budget range, you might have enough for a dedicated vape for flowers and another for oil?

I too am primarily an oil puffer, and I bought the Ascent thinking I would like it for oils and occasional flower sessions. I was incredibly disappointed in the Ascents performance with oils of any kind (pg, vg nic oil or bho). Even at top temperature the unit nevver delivers big satisfying clouds with oils, and as a special bonus the oils tend to impart a crappy burnt flavor that is difficult to clean out.

I love my Ascent for flowers. The thing hits like a champ, and I have started using flowers a lot more since I got it. It gives huge rips, has great flavor and toasts the abv to an even chocolate brown. I just don't use it for oils.

Certainly. Portables have no edge in that dept. In general, variable temp AC units are more likely to do well with concentrates. The DBV, since you mention it, has a very high maximum temp. No reason it shouldn't do the job for you, as well as any other model.

Thanks for your input guys! :) Now before I commit to buying one, have any of you used the Pinnacle Pro? From what I've just read, it works quite well with both oils and herbs

Vapolution 2.0. They just released their oil bowl. It's cheap (you can get a basic unit for $100 US and could get all the accessories for $200)and is not beaten for flavor by any vape. Use the large bowl for big hits. Read the Vapolution 2.0 thread from start to finish. You will be impressed.

Yes, stay well away from this! Go with the E-Nano, which I sold my PNP to buy.

The pinnacle pro struggles with myriad issues at high heats for oils and flowers alike. This is a frequently raised issue by owners of the PNP.

I think if you look into the EpicVape E-Nano, you will be impressed. Oil and flower videos can be found in my signature.
Hey Caligula, just checked out some of your videos. On the vid for the KISS GR2, what glass are you using? What size tube is that'll fit on KISS?

The whip tubing is from @VaporWarehouse. http://www.vaporwarehouse.com/site/vaporbrothers-whip-hose-silicone.html
The glass pieces on the ends are from oregonglassblower on ioffer.com.

One end is a vape attachment 14mm GonG. For the other end I put the same item in shopping cart and then sent a message asking for a 14mm female GonG instead of male. Also make your offer based on 10% off for "FC " discount.

Well, I went and ordered the pinnacle pro...wish I hadn't now. Feels cheap and when you have it on high for waxes it gets ridiculously hot in your hand. As for taste, I'm just getting a sweet plasticy taste that's so strong it feels like it's leaving a coating inside your mouth.

When you choose your next vaporizer, I highly recommend checking out the Hammer.

Mmmmm plastic. Why did you go with the PNP anyway? Just curious since I didnt see that suggested to you in this thread (maybe I missed it).

Anyway, make the best of it. A lot of people like the PNP. Go post up in the Pinnicle Pro thread over in the portable vape section. Im sure lots of guys will be able to help get it working properly.

I had read a few reviews about it and heard nothing but good feedback, apart from the mouthpiece being a little loose. And the fact that I could use oils in it as well.

It does seem to be working fine, I just think it's too small and compact so that's why it gets as hot as it does. And after 4-5 refills that plastic taste seems to have gone a little. Gonna keep using it over the next few days and see how it goes and if I don't like it, I'll just go for a safer choice like the solo or the Hammer which paytonpenn suggested, if I can get one in the UK.

Harder it is to find, harder itll be to get fixed or get parts for as well. Something to consider.
