Switching modes is like switching strains, eh?

I've been in the vape game for over 5 years but I just noticed something that some of you may have noticed before, but for me, it's a new revelation, but it makes perfect sense.

I think we can all agree that when tolerance becomes an issue, we can switch strains, or go from a single strain to a salad, and it seems that by doing so, our tolerance goes down quite a bit for a while. Then when it goes back up, we can switch strains again, and again experience a lowering of our tolerance for a bit.

But I've noticed the exact same thing happen when I switch modes of delivery, even when using the same vape. With my LSV, I can be vaporbonging through the WPA every night, but after awhile, I notice my tolerance creeping up. If I switch to using just the transfer wand, to me, it's like switching strains and my tolerance takes a dive for awhile, but then it begins creeping back up again, but if I switch from the wand to the WPA..............bingo, tolerance lowers again.

All this makes perfect sense though. It's all about getting a different cannabinoid profile. It happens when you switch strains, switch temps or switch modes of delivery.

I never saw anyone mention this before though and I wouldn't have noticed it either if I was one who was constantly switching delivery modes every day or so, but if I stick with one mode for awhile, it becomes pretty obvious, at least to me.

Thoughts?

I could analogize this with my experiences on the Volcano and PnP- 1 bullet in the PnP has me :ko:
When I hang out with my friend who has a cano, I get so vaked in a different way; then I go back to the PnP and 1 bullet is almost stronger than usual.. I thought I was just crazy or something:lol:

sure, makes sense.

temp : not all vape temps are identical due to tolerances in sensors in addition to proximity of heat.
hit concentration : some vapes are simply easier to hit and allow you to "fill up" more or less in comparison, resulting in a different hit entirely. at high consumption this matters less (dare i say cloud chaser).

as with life i think offering variety to vaping is key, however consumption itself is another overlooked component. change that up too, at lower rates of consumption it seems that variety is less of an issue...ymmv, vary that too. :D

i should put my mflb back in rotation, been sitting awhile. my glass vg is so me its hard to set it aside.

Yup. I can definitely see how this could cause one to come the the wrong conclusion that one vape is better than another simply because it gets them higher.

Also, crawdad, I think it's more than just the temp variances or load variances. I think it also has to do with the amount of condensation that takes place or doesn't take place as well as the air to vapor ratios.

So............to those that haven't noticed this or are battling their tolerances creeping up, I suggest to not only switch strains, but try switching delivery modes as well, even if using the same vape.

agreed and whatever else really. clothed vs naked vaping, etc.

study on consumption and satiation
at low rates of consumption people tend to overestimate their own desire for variety

guess im ot. anyhow, ya got me thinking about an attachment for my mflb

Yeah, but for me, it wasn't that I "desired" more variety, but rather noticed that variety had a positive affect on my tolerance. I really wasn't desiring it at all. I'm a real creature of habit. Hell, the PD was the only vape I ever used for 4 years.....lol.

But yeah, regarding the MFLB, I had one that I put away for about 4 years. I tried to get the hang of it but always coughed my lungs out no matter how small a hit I took. Then I won a Finishing Grinder in a contest here and I decided to try the MFLB again, and the fine grind offered up by this grinder made all the difference in the world. No coughing.

Anyway, I got so blasted using the MFLB, that I actually put my LSV away for awhile. It was actually getting me higher than the LSV did...................for about 4 days. Then the tolerance creeped up again and I went back to the LSV.

Again, I don't know if anyone else has noticed this phenomenon, but if not, try switching things up if you've been using the same delivery method for awhile. For me, it made a LOT of difference.

While a difference in cannabinoid profile could surely play a part, I think that the change in routine could play just as much, if not more, of a role here.

Tolerance in the brain is a funny thing and can be affected strongly by things such as environment, for example. I've heard (from a friend with a bachelor's in psychology) that heroin users, for example, can run the risk of overdose even when dosing their usual amount, simply by doing so in an unfamiliar environment.

If my memory serves me correctly, it has to do with the brain recognizing a set of circumstances as leading to a dose, and actually producing its own chemicals in response, ahead of time. When you are in a different environment (or using a different device/mode?) your brain doesn't fully anticipate the impending dose and thus doesn't produce as much, or any, of its own "response chemicals" ahead of time, causing the same result as a normal low tolerance.

Notice it too. But I've been noticing it with temps as well.

Tolerence is a big issue though. I'm upset I can do 3 back to back dabs and still feel 'fine' one one basically puts my friends on their ass for a night.

I do this all the time as well I will use my nano most out of all my vapes but if I get to the point that I need/want 2 bowls in a row I swap to my solo which is similar in terms of temp and delivery of vapor I get wasted the solo bowl is a lil bigger and a bowl will take a lot longer and I do tend to notice that I'm higher from the solo but eventually I will need/want 2 solo bowlsn in a row so I go back to the nano which I use at the egde of combustion And get fuked up more then I could be for

I don't no if I am making any sence but I get what I'm saying

Great Scott!
I've actually been doing this on purpose for a while now. I'd use the pax for a while then switch to the cera. After a few weeks of using only one, the other would seem way stronger. Same thing with home vapes. Switch from the cloud back to the underdog and really feel it. Switch back to the cloud and suddenly "cloud is stronger" lol.

This is essentially the same as @stickstone's concept of vapourizer signature. Even if you are just switching modes (from conduction to convection with the FV, for example) you are changing the profile of the components delivered. sticks has been posting about this for a while now, and he was the first to bring it up so I just wanted to make sure that he gets a little credit.

Set and setting, and getting variety of both, are important in my vaping routine. Going into a session with a fresh open mindset yields good results. Going in with a half-conscious, repetitive mindset makes for a boring session. Setting... varying locations, even if it's just going into a different room, or listening to different music. Anything to shake up the routine seems to lower tolerance for me.
