Does anyone actually vape herbs regularly? Any point to it?

Just wondering if anyone hear actually vapes some of these different herbs and if there really is any effect and what is your favorite blend? I know the following are common and I'm sure there are many more:

-wild dagga, hops, damiana, lavender, spearmint, chamomile, peppermint, etc.

Just looking for some input on what really works, what really gives you any kind of relaxation or feeling.

I've been vaping tulsi, damiana and lavender the past few nights with an underdog log thru a dc020 bubbler. Its pleasant. Taking a break from the good stuff right now so just the routine of setting up my station and pulling through the bubbler meets a need I've been craving. I've been having more vivid dreams lately but I find that whenever I take a Tbreak I notice increased dreams anyway. When I'm using jm I never remember my dreams. The tulsi is nice and somewhat tasty. Damiana is nice too. Lavender tastes pretty and is somewhat relaxing. Not sure what other effects are going on but I have been fairly calm and have been sleeping better. It has not made me trip out and doesn't feel anything like mj... to me.

Also tried tyhme last night but found it a bit harsh. Heard that it clears sinuses... I'm fairly certain it did.

I'm attempting it all again tonight and will try and be more aware of the effects, if any.

Yes, this is what I am talking about. Thanks man.

Here's a couple of recent posts from the tulsi thread:

So we never figured out the correct temperature for this?
:freak:
When I searched google for "holy basil vaporizing temperature",
this thread was the #1 result!

edit: Vaping won't get it all done (gonna try it anyways):

Certain extraction methods will isolate lipophilic (“fat-loving” or insoluble in water) components, such as triterpenoic acids, whereas other methods yield the hydrophilic (“water-loving” or water soluble) components, eugenol and caryophyllene.
When both lipophilic and hydrophilic components are required for support, as is the case for holy basil, a combination of extraction methods is necessary.

I'm guessing here, but I think that the fat-soluble ones come out in vaping, and obviously the water-soluble ones will come out when making tea. For a more full potion when drinking it, I'm going to try adding milk/creamer to my tulsi tea next time. And drink it while vaping:

edit2: Using organic india loose organic pure tulsi tea:
I vaped a couple of bowls in my herbalizer. First one started at 375°f, got taste (very much like the tea) but no vapor. Bumped up to 400, then 425 same story, wispy vapor at max (445°f) so I loaded another at max, still wispy. I feel mild effects, more relaxing than clarity but I'm typing aren't I... ;)
Ok. Just tried some out. Figured I had to after downing a huge masala dosa and all this talk of it...

Used it with a UD log vape through a dc020 bubbler. Only had some tea bags so I went with that. Can't really gauge temperature with the log so I'll say it was at 12volts. That's fairly warm with the wall wart in using.

Very pleasant taste, got some lite vapor after an extended pull and than dumped the load and started fresh. As far as effects, it definitely ain't pot but I do feel a calmness, perhaps sleepiness although it is on the late side for me after a full day of work. I did notice that I was sitting there a moment or two after taking the hit dozing/spacing out like I would after taking some flowers but its not like I'm stoned or anything. It was just like, a pause, I guess.

Overall, its pleasant. I've been drinking it as tea lately to enhance my dreams so I figured I'd try vaping since this thread's been active. Can't really tell if its the tea or the t-break that's been enhancing the dreams lately. I usually never remember them on the morning but since I stopped for a month they've come back.

Might try another round of vape while I drink tea tomorrow night. Let's see if that makes any difference.

I am going to start trying lavender tonight. The insomnia has been bothering me more and more lately so until I get my dispensary order I shall experiment.
I'v got insomnia pretty bad as well, I'v tried lavender and chamomile with pretty decent results. I really want to assemble the ultimate sleep mix though. I skimmed through that other post (http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/the-ethnobotanical-thread.148/) and saw that Valerian and African Dream Root were both used for sleep. I might try those next.

Thanks for chiming in SecretVapor. I haven't tried the lavender again yet though I should after the way last night went. I will look into that dream root never heard of it. Ive had bad experiences with valerian ingesting it so im leary of inhaling it.

Good to know. I may pass on the valerian and start with the dream root then. I'v also recently ordered ardisia 16. I have a good friend who speaks really highly of that stuff. I'll let you know how it works out.

Cool thanks :). The valerian might not be a problem for some but I got a very "drugged" feeling from it and the dreams aggravate my PTSD issues :(. Hope the ardisia16 helps you

Thanks it goes through phases right not its not in a good one. But the uplifting effects of MJ is helping during the daytime. Im still working on the sleep stuff. I appreciate the cheerleading support sending some back ya! Will keep updated if I find something that works.

Havent vaped anything today as a bad cold with a sore throat hit me hard last night. Salt gargles and steaming till I get back on track and can vape easier.

Mj is the best for ptsd, the VA even went against the rest of the Feds recommending it.

Yeah im some ways I can see it for sure. My issue ATM is managing the feeling when it wears off or if I use something too stimulating that keeps me up.and being up all night in a quiet house not good for PTSD :(. Boy a wake and bake in the AM though really helps settle my mind and get me going

I have been vaping a lot of wild dagga (leonotus leonurus) flowers lately. They don't grind up as well in my santa cruz shredder as they do in a coffee grinder. Since I have a MFLB it requires a finer grind than what my shredder can provide, and the WD flowers simply clog up my MFLB finishing grinder. The coffee grinder is the way to go for a MFLB.

The effects of Wild Dagga flower are very pleasant but short acting. By short acting I mean 30 to 45 minutes. You will get a high from it, however vaping more and more of it won't get you any higher. WD flowers do taste great. I've tried making tea with WD but IMHO vaping is much better and requires less of the herb. I'll get about 6-7 turns out of a full trench before WD is fully vaped At that point I just put the vape down as vaping any more won't really have any more of an effect. Of course, smoking WD flowers is out of the question as it is quite harsh. I actually like wild dagga, but it does not compare to MJ in intensity. WD just isn't that intense, but you also don't get any paranoia either. The combustion point for wild dagga is a little bit lower than it is for MJ. That combined with the fine grind of the flowers makes it easier to combust than MJ in my MFLB.

I have not combined the WD with anything else. I recommend it if you are looking for a mild legal herb that tastes good to vape. Besides being a good standalone herb, I would think it makes an excellent mixer with other herbs. I have heard that kanna and wild dagga is a good combination FWIW.

Any good herbs that act on GABA, things that promote relaxation? I've heard about kava but don't know much about it.

Kava is an interesting herb. You don't smoke it, rather you make a tea out of it. I drink kava sometimes before bed as it can help me sleep on those days I've had too much caffeine or whatever. Like a lot of stuff, the first few times you drink it you can get intoxicated. Its sort of like being drunk but your mind is still sharp. However, since I've been drinking it for a few months now I've found I don't get intoxicated so much as chilled out. There are a couple of things you should know. First off, I wouldn't waste my money on those sleepytime kava capsules at the health food store. What you really want is some good fresh kava root from a reputable dealer. I buy powdered kava root from Kona Kava Farm, and have found it to be very good. Second is that making a good batch of kava tea takes time. (Check Youtube for videos on how to make kava.) I've tried using a blender to make the kava, but for me the best kava is made the traditional way with a bowl of cold water and squeezing the kava in a muslin bag. This method minimizes the amount loose kava root floating around in your drink while making the kava just as potent. However you make the tea, you'll need a fat source in the water to help bring out the the active ingredient in kava - the kavalactones. I do this by adding soy lethecin granules to the water before squeezing out the kava, but you can use other sources of fat such as soy milk, coconut milk, etc..

My recipe is to pour 3.5 cups of cold water into a bowl and add a teaspoon of soy lethecin. Let the lecethin dissolve a bit. Next fill a small muslin bag full of kava root - about 4-5 tablespoons - tie off the bag, and then dip the kava filled bag into the water and squeeze out the kavalactones for about 15-20 minutes. After that time the water should be a dark brown. Thats your kava tea. I then pour the kava through a strainer into another vessel before drinking it. Kava tastes like dirty tree bark, so I always add a little water to the tea to dilute it so it doesn't taste so bad. You'll get used to the taste. A good strong batch of kava will numb out your mouth while you drink it. Perhaps it numbs out the taste buds too. :) Anyway, I usually drink about half the batch and put the rest in the fridge for another night. Also, however much you drink you'll want to drink it all at once, not slowly. Its just not the sort of drink you sip. It tastes better fresh, so if you don't want to put any in the fridge then chug it all down at once. Its not adictive, and as far as I know the only down side to it is the taste.

There have been some past reports in the 1990s out of Germany that said it might be toxic for your liver, but I believe those reports have now been found to be false. So don't worry about this. The important thing is to drink your tea made from kava root, and not other parts of the plant (which can be toxic.). Like I say, get your kava from a reputable source and you won't have any problems.

Kava is pretty cool. I remember trying to find some online and it seemed like it was expensive for a tiny amount that wouldn't last me very long.

vapor33,
Update: Ordered some "Whole White Kanna Leaf" from shaman a couple of months ago. Yes its priced at a premium, but I wanted some good stuff. Put it through my space case grinder, and then put it through my magic flight finishing grinder to prepare it for vaping in my MFLB. Vaping the kanna itself is real nice. It has a sweet flavor to it, and it can give you a mellow buzz all by itself. Its very relaxing, and I'm thinking it would be useful for someone trying to kick a kratom habit. Kava root is good at eliminating the insomnia, night sweats and restless leg if taken just before bed, but vaping kanna would be useful as a mood elevator during the day when that kratom w/d low comes on. Instead of reaching for the kratom, vape some kanna instead. If you've been there you know what I'm tslking about.

I never even knew that you could vape real herbs... but I guess it makes sense because Cannabis is an herb itself.
I've heard great things about essential oils made out of that stuff and it is supposed to be super beneficial to your health so I could imagine vaping it would be the same

SamWin69,

I have found out more about kava since posting this last year. One thing I have learned is Kona Kava Farm sells bad kava. All they sell is the isa-tudei variety. Don't drink that stuff as its not good, yields poor effects, and its not good for you.

For more info, check out the post I just made in the
