Loss of the Search function

Maybe I'm being blind but did the search function disappear? I can't find it on any toolbar.

Here's the link to find all content by me:

Looks like you should be able to try http://fuckcombustion.com/search/ but you get this:

Did members lose the ability to search? I don't think I should have to go to google to search FC...

Use Google to search as mentioned in that other thread. Works well.

But goog doesn't let you search within a forum, or thread!
Sure it does! The trick is to use the "site:" keyword.

For example, to search within FC start your search query with "site:fuckcombustion.com", e.g. "site:fuckcombustion.com ABV recipes".

Or, to search within a specific thread, go to the thread you want to search and take everything in the URL except the last bit. For this thread, that would look like "site:fuckcombustion.com/threads/loss-of-the-search-function.13188".

But to find posts by a particular user on a particular thread...?

FC deserves its own search. Please don't outsource this to google!

I'd take the thread search keyword I used before, then add the user's name as a keyword. For example:

site:http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/the-magic-flight-box.750/ pakalolo

You could even narrow it further by adding the user's title along with their name, in quotes, to avoid mentions of their name by others or to get around generic names like "magicflight". In that case the title of the user magicflight is "Manufacturer", so you could phrase your search like this:

site:http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/the-magic-flight-box.750/ "magicflight Manufacturer"

It's not as pretty as the normal built-in search, that's for sure, but it works in a pinch. I'm sure the search function will be coming back in the future once the server upgrade process is complete (which I'm sure is a big ordeal).

As a side note, it looks like the built-in function for searching for all posts of a particular user is still functioning. Click on a user's name, then click on their post-count and you'll be taken to the search results containing all messages of that user.

Also, DuckDuckGo uses Google's backend and syntax so you can apply all of this over there as well.

Search is NOT being outsourced to Google but the forum is experiencing server issues and getting ready for a move. To ease strain on the server search is gone temporarily.... it will be back.

Users are just offering suggestions for workarounds until it is back :D
